Is Frontier THE WORST Airline? Why we no longer fly Frontier Airlines. FEES & CANCELLATIONS! (2023)

  • A year ago, we had high hopes that Frontier Airlines would be our preferred airline out of our hometown airport of Myrtle Beach. But after our last 3 flights were cancelled, seeing their high baggage fees, and their new strict bag policy at the gate, we have changed our minds.

      I've only flown with them 1 time from Dallas to San Diego this past July and I had a good experience. Only took a personal item and they didn't make a fuss about it. Obviously the seats are very thin... no wifi etc but for a quick flight it wasn't bad.

      I arrived to check in baggage 15 minutes before it closed but the rude lady at check in argued for ten minutes that we were late and we were forced to rebook to the next day. My grandma and aunt were forced to make a connection in Denver for nine hours while I was able to take the nonstop flight (plenty of seats available!) The ticket costed $169 total but that went up to $1100 cause we also changed our departure airport a week before. The change fee was 350$ but it was our only option. Other fees of fees added up too and seat selection/baggage.

      It seems that as soon as their merger did not happen with Spirit that things went downhill. I just read that they now pull the agents of the counter 1 hr before the flights, so if you are running late and need to check a bag you are out of luck.

      Frontier has the potential to be a good airline. Ultra low cost airlines are a necessary evil because there is a market need for cheap flights like people of low income that want to visit their family, attend a funeral or wedding, or need a cheap vacation, or middle income folks that rather spend money elsewhere in their vacation. However they absolutely do not have to suck.

    LERN THIS TRICK..... If you have a Bag / Backpack with Straps.... Always put the bag/backpack in with the straps facing the back of the box so it will not catch on the short rim of the box.... and if they place it in the box make sure they do it the same way....

    We have flown frontier for years but we won’t anymore. They purposely separate parties now to force you to pay for seats if you want to be together. We were on a flight with at least 1/3 of the seats empty but they seated me in row 7 and my husband in row 21. Other passengers were complaining of the same. This is something new-another way to nickel and dime their customers.

    My mom was charged on Tuesday for a bag she has used before. Then, on her way back yesterday, they had overbooked the flight, and they had to buy tickets through another airline because they didn't have flights until tomorrow for 2 passengers. There were 3 other families without seats.
    They sent an email at 11:30am that flight was delayed from

      Oh, and they sent an email yesterday at 11:30am say her 3:30pm flight was delayed to 5:30pm. She got there at 1:10pm. The flight ended up leaving at 3:30pm.

      COME ON..... They over booked and YOU had to pay..... LIE LIE LIE...... Law says they have to make it right not you..... I'm fed up with people not knowing their rights when this stuff happens... Do you know you can make them pay 4 times the amount of your cost for doing that to you..... READ THE LAW PEOPLE.... IT IS IN THE LAW IN BLACK AND WHITE.... I go nowhere on a plane without knowing my rights..... when you do they hate it and it is not a voucher it is cash money..... Vouchers are only for hotels that they know will take them and THEY MUST MAKE SURE THEY HAVE SPACE OR PAY FOR A REAL HOTEL AT COST....... STUPID PEOPLE READ THE LAW..

    They check every bag. Also I've had a flight canceled while waiting to get on the plane because they did not have crew....they knew that hours before and never told us.

    Thank God that stewardess reassigned you, that had to have been pleasant and appreciated. I was looking forward to my upcoming flight on frontier but now I'm filled with trepidation and vowing to pack very light.

    Last week when I went to Orlando, on both ways the gate agents did not check any personal items and carry on baggage at all. Either they stop doing that thanks to you and other social media, or both flights were delayed by 4+ hours so they were too exhausted to care.

    Why are they so strict 😕 It's like they're trying to make up for some monetary shortfalls by trying to get extras out of you guys 😮 Canceling flights is wrong because that will screw up hotel reservations and not to mention if your working m, it cuts into vacation time.       I know...flying is not fun anymore and they are not helping. Frontier changes the days they fly after you make your reservation. It happened 3 times to us. Such a pain. Thanks for watching guys!

    You get what you pay for! The convenience from Myrtle is great rather than drive 2 1/2 hours and have probable flight delays using Breeze.

    I had a round trip flight with frontier. They emailed me to take a later flight and they would give me a free flight because they were overbooked. Instead of the gate agents showing some accommodations or customer service, they tried to force people to pay $100 for their personal items or you couldn’t board. I refused to pay the $100 so I just booked a flight on United. People have to work.

    I have flown with them three times. They just got worse and worse. On Sunday, because of Frontier delaying my flight and making me miss their own connecting flight in Denver, I would have been stuck in the Las Vegas airport with my grandson for 24 hrs. I cancelled my frontier flight, which I may or may not get a refund for, and paid Delta $600 just to get us home by 6:00 a.m. (7 hrs earlier than Frontier would have). This airline is horrible! If you value your sanity, you won’t risk flying with them. It’s not cheaper if you don’t actually get the flight you booked. I will say that most of their employees are really nice and helpful and I feel sorry that they have to get blasted by angry customers for things that are usually not their fault (cancelled and delayed flights, broken equipment).

      That was some awful flight! They should give you a refund!! As I type this, we are in the middle of flying frontier once again to see if the experience is any better from when we last flew them a year ago. When we went to check our bags, the counter agent said that if anyone asks her for assistance, she'll be forced to charge them $25. Now that's customer service for you LOL.     I had my flight delayed 7 hours. When I arrived, no one was at the front desk, I was running everywhere to try to find information. I missed the flight by 3 minutes because it's impossible to check in. No boarding pass. You have to use whatsapp to communicate with them now. No reimbursement. No change to later flight. When someone finally came out from the plane, she kept on arguing with me and thought that 1 hour before the flight was late. This is in sacramento fronteir. I just tell myself that the man in the sky doesn't want me to fly that day. 😂

      That's horrible to hear. It seems frontier creates a bunch of rules to make the flights more of a hassle for their passengers when they should be brending over backwards to accommodate the passengers. I've read that they now close the check-in counter an hour before the flight is supposed to take off. So if you arrive after they close, I'm not sure how you're supposed to check in your bags. We're flying them again very soon and we'll do a follow-up on our experience with them because we've tried to avoid them over the last year. Thanks for sharing your story.     I fairly recently flew from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Atlanta, Georgia. While in San Juan, they told me to go to the gate printed on my boarding pass. A few minutes after the boarding time I noticed that no one was boarding. Turns out my plane had switched gates but Frontier Airlines didn’t send any notice of the gate change. I almost missed my flight. Had I not flagged down an employee, I would have never known. You’d at least think that they’d let the passengers know but they didn’t. I’ll never fly with them again.

      Hey, you would think budget airline or not simple customer service procedures like that should be normal! That's what happened to the person we interviewed in the video.     Very informative. One positive was the flight attendant did you folks well giving you a better seat than by the lavatory. That was remarkable. But the thin seats, narrow pitch between seats and obvious chiseling the company is doing to nickel and dime customers is awful. It sounds like from other customers they are not code sharing partners with other airlines and this has angered passengers who have been bumped, sometimes for unclear reasons. I wonder how the morale of their team members on the frontline are.

      Yes, we were impressed that the flight attendant moved us without us asking! Great service. As far as morale, when we flew with them over a year ago the flight attendants and gate agents seemed really excited about frontier and talked about how the airline is expanding and that the future looked bright with the planned merger with Spirit.     At this point in my life, I just fly Delta. I'd rather just pay a little more up front and have a seamless experience or stay home. I know money is tight, so I get it. But it doesn't pay to fly disreputable airlines.

    Hi. I hate to fly I would not ever fly out on cheap airlines like this. They are just trying to rip people off you could try. AAA to help you or try the train like Amtrak.

    I would never take Frontier. I have never flow on an airline that checks personal item size. Even the one I flew on in Asia that weighed personal items (rare), I will never fly on again.

    Please do not fly Frontier Airlines had a flight from Detroit to layover in Denver and finally to Las Vegas. But first the flight was late getting to Detroit which was late getting us to Denver which gave us 10 minutes to go to baggage claim get our bag and check it in to go to Vegas. So we go to check in and we're too (late) so we go to the agent and rebook. And the agent saying that it's going to be $200 to rebook she had no sympathy like we being (late) it was our fault so we had to sit in the Denver Airport for 7 hours waiting for this next flight to Las vegas. Oh yeah they switch the boarding Gates from where your ticket says at the last minute every time we was about to board Fly Frontier if you wanna

    I dont know what people expect. This is like expecting fine dining at mcdonalds. You get what you are paying for. If the other airlines are charging 400 for roundtrip and you see frontier at 189 for roundtrip....wouldnt you wonder why is this so cheap?

      you're right!. You do get what you pay for. But what a good budget airline needs to do is find ways to cut some of the perks and the cost without creating a lot of hassle for the customer.       @@TravelwithNJSteveandSue the whole term budget airline is a "scam" in itself. There is no such thing. The wording budget targets frugal people who think they are getting a deal. Sure its a deal if you are not traveling with any luggage but who travels with no luggage?

    Sounds to me like a great way for an airline to go bust. Sure they may make a quick buck at first but like you many will also be saying I won't fly with them again. I certainly would be in that camp

    Those seats remind me of the clamshells that salad in packaged in. After seeing this, I will never fly Frontier-looks even worse than Spirit

      Yes, Frontier's seats are very uncomfortable! We have not been on Spirit in years so not sure about those seats. But check out this Friday's video and look at the seats on Breeze....they are like living room chairs! Thanks for watching! Have a great Sunday!

    One of mh relatives was a pilot for Frontier, and I always felt thst she deserved to work for a better airline

    I've flown Frontier from DFW to LAS and back for a Vegas trip. I was scared of that airline at first. My backpack meets the strict baggage guidelines and did not get swiped. The regular seats with the nano trays are bearable at best. The fact that the seat cushion is hard, the lackluster padding for my head, and not being able to recline kind of sucks. However, the Stretch seats are very comfortable with padding to protect my head from the seat frame, the lumbar support, and the slightly softer seat cushion as well as the ability to recline made a big difference. It was a nice and smooth experience though. I'll definitely use them again until they swipe me out of the line. However, Spirit Airlines is actually rated better than Frontier Airlines nowadays.

    I'm 60 years old....been flying for 60 years, domestic and international. Airlines have there rules and policies...and we have a choice of airline. You try an airline twice, you don't like it...move on to another airline....don't complain and fly ten times more. Yes, sometimes our choices are limited...but unfortunately rules and policies are there for a reason 😑 ...
