Taylor drove a great race. Kept the car on the high side for the first several laps to heat up the tires, feel the car out, and let the pack shake itself down. On the many laps he led, he took great lines through the turns. If not for all the yellow flags at the end .... who knows. He looked like a Waltrip out there!
@@SirVic42 he definitely did a good job driving the car especially on something that was just old and wore out and you have no idea what kind of shape some of the shocks are and stuff like that. I did kind of expect him to be one of the better drivers out there with as much experience he has behind the wheel maybe not so much circle track racing butBut you can tell by listening to him he knows how to feel out a car. I might be a huge Cletus fan but I was definitely rooting for Taylor over Cletus lol
A little tip on how to make good exhaust hangers is bend the exhaust hanger into a J hook so it cradles underneath the exhaust pipe. Welding exhaust hanger to the wall of the exhaust pipe you are risking it tearing out the side wall or the weld cracking and tearing a hole in the sidewall of the exhaust pipe. If you bend the exhaust hangers in the shape of a J it will cradle and hold the weight of the exhaust pipe and you only have to weld it to make sure the exhaust pipe stays in the Cradle
From personal exp doing this, when welding up the vband flanges, id highly recommend having the entire v band assembly done up tight and contacting each other to 1. minimise warping in the flange and 2. just another piece to try and disperse the heat into. the flanges need to be 100% straight otherwise they won't join completely and will leak, which they can warp and do very easily when welding them up.
Taylor, you've been killing it. Your videos have been much more polished and easy to watch as well. Great job man, and congrats on your #2 spot at the Freedom 500.
Taylor, you should look at the way Burns stainless makes a merge collector. Your Y could have been where you went from 2.5" to 3", no reducer required if you do it a little different and aren't afraid to swing a hammer. If you have any trouble with your hangers tearing out, I can describe how you can attach hangers with your welds under tension instead of bending stress. You just need to learn a few more tricks before your fab level will be on point.

Having done a few hundred of these systems including some for show cars I kept thinking You’re doing it wrong! The only time I ever made a system with a Y pipe first was when someone dumped a bunch of pre made parts on the floor. You work from front to back always aiming to where you need it to go placing the muffler cat and other bits where they need to be so you have the correct target point. The Y pipe is a place where you have a lot of adjustment to hit the target as you can cut the pipes at different angles , you can even cut them so that the outlet is on a different plain . They don’t have to make a perfect circle either especially if you’re going to a larger diameter tube. You just cut off the end to where it fits just inside the larger tube and massage it with a hammer and heat to get a neat gap and weld it.
Your getting really good at fab Taylor don’t doubt yourself just keen working on better gear and you’ll be doing every last bit of fab when you build another car or possibly a pro car
Back purge it next time it makes the welds flow out much nicer! I use the Fupa Cup it does much better on shielding the welds. HTP Has a Dual Reg so you can back purge from one bottle and get some giant 5” hose clamps from Oreilly’s and some tin foil and you’ll be set!

You need a flexjoint for one bank at the y-pipe. Or else it can crack when it heats up. On the other hand, great job. Your welding skills is sick 🔥🔥
