For people curious new version of the 55 is carry on compatible, it’s the old one that isn’t (the old ones were only available in red and grey, the new ones are in 4 colours including black and green) When browsing the internet there are conflicting articles whether it’s carry on comparable or not because it’s the old version that isn’t and people haven’t updated their articles Just detach the daypack and put it under your seat , and the main bag can go in the overhead storage :)
I just came here after finishing watching the video about this backpack on Osprey's website. I'm a bit confused. On there they present the bag itself as being 55L without the daypack. EDIT: After doing more research I discovered that the new 2022 design of the Farpoint 55L TREK has a larger single compartment backback without the day pack, while the Farpoint 55L TRAVEL (that's the difference!) is this one that has a smaller 40L backpack that includes the 15L daypack. I'm really unsure which way to go. I definitely want a daypack, plus this bag has the zip up back cover panel that nicely hides the straps. But it lacks the thicker, more comfortable straps that the Trek has. That one, however, doesn't have the zip up back cover panel. Instead it has an entire rain cover that goes over the whole bag, which I'm not a fan of. So I can't decide which way to go. They both have features that I want, and also that lack what I want.
The best thing about this bag is that you can connect the daypack on the front. This is a LIFESAVER on a packed train in China when people can Crush your laptop because it's so packed. Keeping it in the front you can protect it.
Hi! Did you have any trouble with this bag not fitting the carry-on requirements on flights? I really like this backpack but I don't want to pay extra to have my bag checked in every time I fly, and I hear different experiences on this
So I actually ended up checking in my bag but not because they made me or anything just because I had three flight switches and i didn’t feel like lugging around my ginormous backpack haha. I will say I did meet a lot of people in the hostels that had my exact bag and they did put them on the plane and it was just fine. Although I can’t promise anything because I have heard in reviews of some people saying that it got denied but that really is just if you’re willing to take that risk! I loved my bag and it was worth every penny in my opinion!
I just came back yesterday from a trip to Himalayas. It was a domestic flight but they allowed me to carry this bag on the plane with me. Absolutely love this backpack :)
Fair comment on the laptop concern. Bending a laptop can destroy it because the motherboard bends, all the soldering and circuits can bend, the hard drive and CPU/heat sink can bend. I think it's more of an Osprey issue than a you issue. They should either have the laptop pocket attached to the front, or they should design it so the daypack connects to the main pack backwards.
It wasn’t really one specific thing but I had just seen a lot of good reviews on the the farpoint than I did on the fair point. I also wanted something that was as biggggg as possible and the farpoint was better. They are pretty similar but from all the research I did on bags it was the one that people spoke the highest about. I hope this helps!
The main pack not only has the hip belt but it also has an internal frame that transfers the weight to your hip. The band should go on the top of your hips.
My laptop is 12 inches, but my boyfriend brought his laptop in his bag, and it was bigger than mine substantially and it fit just fine. So, I think you should be okay!
Why did you decide to get the men's one instead of the women's? Also, how tall are you? (trying to see how it would fit in comparison to your height). I'm going to be traveling to Thailand and Australia and trying to decide between the two. Thanks in advance!
I just wanted as much space as I could have because I didn't want to sacrifice fashion tooooo much hahah and I liked the reviews of the mens! I am 5ft6!
@@cristinalaura although I never experienced what you are describing I understand your point. What would be a solution that osprey could implement on the next version of this product? Ps. I only felt I was pressing the laptop when I try to attach (zip on) a full daily pack. Attempting to do so is difficult and stresses both laptop and backpack stitching and zippers. If you attach (zip on) the empty daily backpack first, and fill it up later I cannot see how the laptop can suffer. Cheers
If you remove the backpack detachable portion I would think yes unless it’s severely overstuffed. Although if your airline is super strict I think technically it might be like 1 inch over
@@bartman2395 I bought both of them just to check them out and the latest version is heavier. It feels so heavy on my back. Did you find the same thing. I wish the older version was carry-on compliant
@@cristinalaura If you really want it shouldn’t be that hard. I’ve been nomading since 2019. Now I kinda stuck in the California for longer then I expected but next month finally going a huggeee trip. I wondering why you don’t have any other social media that I can follow you more.
I bought the same backpack for my 3 week trip to Italy last year. Worked out great, the day pack is awesome and I’m now only traveling with a backpack. Only issue with the 55L is, it’s too big for carry-on. Even with the daypack removed. So, for this years traveling, I bought the new 40L. I’m headed to London for a week in May and bringing the 40L plus the daypack that came with the 55L. Both as carry-ons. :) November I have a solo 18 day Italy trip booked and I’ll probably bring the 40L there if all goes well in London :) Nice video and I agree with everything you said in it. Peace and love. :)
Why are some people saying it's carryon compliant but you're saying it's not. I read its the same size now as the 40L . I'm just trying to figure this out before my 30 day return policy is up. It's so frustrating
I so disliked this bag. The weight distribution was really bad, so everything was just so heavy at the bottom part. My shoulders were knackered! No water bottles & snacks pockets. No rain cover. I sold it straightaway. I'm getting Ariel 65 now, which will arrive this weekend.

Great review. Awesome note on the laptop issue.
What size is your laptop? 13 inch? 15? Trying to figure out if mine would fit before I think about buying this backpack, but it looks great overall
It's pretty small (like around 12inches) but it definitely had enough room for a bigger computer than mine!

The 2022 redesign is carryon sized and the old one is three or four inches too high

Can you remove the rigid frame of the main pack, and wash the pack in the washing machine?

The new one fits as carryon but the old one does not
