It’s always amazing to look up channels like whatifalthist and see how many subscribers they have for just the laziest dumbest reactionary content. I can’t fathom it taking them longer than an hour to produce a video and it still gets at least a hundred thousand views. If I didn’t have a conscience I would be all over that shit. It takes zero effort to produce and the profit/audience is huge.
the only cool part were the recreations, everything else was just dads knifefucking ballistic gel. the al queda vs ira recreation makes up for a lot of that though
The early 00’s were truly the golden age of dumb guy tv shows. Deadliest warrior being the crowning jewel, packed to the gills with unintentional comedy and arguments really stupid history guys would have while drunk.
We got some Deadliest Warrior discussion from the guys on this one-- a special relic in the Remember Shuffle iconography. We covered it in the Spike TV episode of our show. If you're interested in just the Deadliest Warrior portion, you can find that here: ruclips.net/video/AAbjhLjl8H8/видео.html
As someone who enjoyed the Age of Empires series and dumb guy unintentional comedy shows like Deadliest Warrior and Fear Factor I would love to see someone remake Deadliest Warrior but with modern AI, but they would probably lean in too hard to make it stupid and silly and meme worthy and it would feel incredibly forced, rather than just a show written/produced and mostly starring dumb people for a dumb audience.
funny that they mention Ambrose because the first history book i read that got me interested in history was Crazy Horse and Custer which was given to me by an old girlfriends dad. I remember thinking "wow this custer guy was actually pretty cool" lmao i was such a gigantic dumbass back then. (im currently a regular dumbass)
History Guy here. RE: the tight packed formations. Civil war times were fucked because while they had rifles with 2 or 3 times the effective range of smoothbores they were still singleshot muzzleloaders and so the only way to concentrate firepower was still to have tight packed formations.
@@frostatine it's a feedback loop, but it's based in material circumstances. If I disperse my troops and you mass yours, your line will be able to advance through my fire while taking minimal casualties, while any volley from your line has the potential to blow a hole through the middle of my formation. In large scale combat volume of fire always trumps accuracy, that's true today and it was then. With machine guns it's possible to concentrate fire from a dispersed formation, but with muzzleloaders it isn't. Dispersed formations were used in smaller scale battles and skirmishes or when one side didn't need to gold the ground where it was position, but when falling back wasn't an option, to defend artillery or supply wagons or critical roads, bridges, infantry needed to be massed to be effective despite how gruesome the consequences were.
@@frostatine Another reason for concentrating troops may have also been the inexistence of any portable communications device. All orders and instructions have to be delivered within vocal range, and during a battle loose formations would result in a greater lack of cohesion, especially considering the density and scale of combat on those battlefields.
My relative went solo on multiple road trips, solely to collect rubbings of confederate monuments and then putting them in a scrapbook. Psycho shit, plus his entire mom’s side of the family was northern too
Most of the play throughs on Twitch and RUclips of people playing Paradox games (EUIV, Vicky 3, CK3, HOI4). Are almost all, here’s this alt history scenario or playing the weakest country in the game. Then trying to build them up or make the alt history possible. Hell, when I first bought The Great War: Western Front. The first thing I did was play as the Germans and try and win WW1 as them
Like bringing in Hannibal to hunt a serial killer
El commento perfecto
Deadliest warrior was the coolest show for the 10 year old history guy. Loved being called out on this one!
Ya, but it sucks they only spoke about it for 10 minutes.
“Reactionary History RUclips” guy is being replaced with “Woo Woo Reactionary Alternative History” guy

History Guy, here. I think we're mostly harmless. It's nice to be discussed :)

love hanging out with my friends
Dear friends. Also, I'm a jay gewish minese chan
45:00 for the most legitimately scathing review they read of a book
"Birch Bayh Enjoyer" is my favorite Matt character. He *really* doesn't like Birch Bayh Enjoyer.

the dialog on that show was so bad that it might be the only show that would be at risk of being written by AI

My favorite history book has to be “Works in Essex County” by vickers. Really put gordan wood in his place
Ummm actually it was NOT the Gauls at teutoburg forest!!!
28:05 "When wars are dehumanized both victory and defeat become miserable, and God no longer lends a helping hand."
Literally playing EUIV while listening to this 💀
Lmao same

Doesn't that become circular reasoning? You need formations to generate enough concentration of fire to deal with formations?
