I find the concept of the Marvel MegaMorphs toyline to be hilarious. Like, The Avengers created giant transforming mechs to take out that one small guy, and that's overkilling it.
Neo shifters were like, bootleg Bionicles, shelfwarm like crazy, in fact, even 15 ish years or so later, some are still in my town local toystore, with the boxes being yellowed to oblivion
I had two Neoshifters. I don't recall much of the story, but the faction names make me think it's some kind of religious war of the righteous Paladins vs the evil Templars.
I have a lot of nostalgia for the Happy Meal transformers. They transformed from a McDonald's menu item into either a robot or a dinosaur. Those were just great. I think they even had a storyline.
Since you mentioned Bandai, a lot of gunpla have transforming features despite being model kits and not toys per se. It’s impressive how well they work since it’s all plastic on plastic. No screws or hinges to hold anything place. No glue either. Granted they don’t always look the best (looking at the HG Wing Zero). The MG Zeta Gundam Ver. Ka is a technological marvel.
Thought this was gonna be a video about the "transforming" toys which transformation is either bad or non-existent, like Robot Replicas, shell-formers, part-formers, etc.
Definitely a topic I'd like to cover in the future! Apologies for any confusion, I had a hard time titling this video myself. I hope you enjoyed it regardless!
You could also include: - Bandai egg beasts (skeleton dinosaurs, Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, etc). - Ghostbusters transforming figures (Toilet, scooter, etc turn into ghost monsters). - Heman rocklord things (can't remember the name). - Matchbox cars that turned into alien robot things (you opened the cars and pulled out the compressed "robot" and transformed it, etc. - Some other Hotwheels-sized cars that turned into robots/animals (can't remember the names). - Gobots, Rocklords (and all the other tf robot toys that came out in parallel to TFs). - Werebears (cuddly teddybears that turned into monster bears by turning their faces and paws inside-out). - TMNT transforming action figures (Leonardo turned into a fire engine, I think?) - Dinosaurez (or something like that) by Bandai. Metallic dinosaur and prehistoric mammal fossils turned into robots. The main bad guy was called something like "Gigano Dragon" and turned into a silver oriental dragon. - Happy Meal transformers (the ones that turned from food and drink into robots) - The precursors to the infamous "Botbots".
I love the idea and designs of Neo Shifters. The only problem I had with the toys themselves was how brittle they were. It wasnt the quality of the plastic, the inner parts were too thin.
Those MegaBloks Neoshifters toys I used to joke and call them "Neoshitters" because literally any I bought or my brother bought broke immediately. Thank you for bringing back that memory!
The digivolving toys were my favorite toys as a kid. Season 2's toys were lacking to me but I loved season 1 and 3's toys. The digivolving playsets were cool too (evolved from one form to another, but also opened up to reveal a whole diorama inside of them with minifigs). I had all 3 of the season 3 digivolving playsets. I loved the digivolving toys so much that I ended up getting every single one of the rebooted Digivolving Spirits figures, even the blackwargreymon recolor lol. It's an absolute Travesty that they cancelled the new digivolving spirits line though. They had Gomamon>Zudomon, Palmon>Lillymon, Biyomon>Garudamon, Guilmon>Dukemon, and Impmon>Beelzemon figures in the works, but all were cancelled. They even showed prototypes of both Biyomon and Guilmon at toy shows, they looked so good, but never released. Hope to god they revive the line one day.
Wow I honestly didn't know digivolving spirits got canceled, that sucks. Was there a Wormmon playset? I either had wormmon or hawkmon, but I can't remember which
LOL yeah that is a certified classic but also feels a bit like old hat, mostly wanted to focus on stuff people may have forgotten or normies have never heard of
As someone who's gotten a lot of the beastbox cubes, complete recommendation there. They're a little pricy for the size, but they make up for it with quality engineering and plastic. They're pretty dense and well made. The four monkey combiner is pretty baller. Also recommend the japanese crane, the ankylosaurus, archeopteryx, crab, and angler fish. The dogs are good, just a little complicated.
52 toys and Luck cat in general makes amazing toys , there was a megazord one before thats well proportioned , articulate , transforms into boxes and into animals too , krazy shit
Please continue this series. In like the early 10’s there were Switch n Go Dinos which were a lot of fun. They were extremely simple and had nice designs with little screens for eyes that would blink and stuff. Extremely fun for a kid. There’s also the Power Rangers Zords toys which were always unique and fun Hopefully those give you ideas!
Thanks so much to everyone watching! This video is doing better than I ever could have hoped. Working on my next one now, will drop some hints in community posts so watch out for that and turn on notifications if you want to know when I post ASAP. see ya until then :D
Great video! I was very surprised by your subscriber count, I thought you'd have somewhere between 20k and 120k. The video was entertaining, edited well, and scripted well. Keep up the RUclips grind, man! I think your future is very bright
Sometime in the 2000s, Bandai released a Zaku II figure that transformed into a Magellan Tank. Dunno if the line went beyond that, but it's neat to see something from Gundam that isn't supposed to be a transformer at all turn into something that is completely unrelated, and have both modes end up looking good. 2Old4Toys made a video on it like 15 years ago, and that's the only reason I know of it's existence.
Holy shit. I HAD a Neo Shifter growing up. The Turbofly Shifter, apparently. I had no idea what it was, or anything, since I got it as a gift without seeing any commercials, but coming off of Metroid Prime and Sonic for the first time or two, I was in love with things that turned into balls. I wish I still had it somewhere.
SECONDED. I nearly fainted when I recognized the one I owned at 1:35 . I abused the heck out of the light-up eye/head. I can't remember if I had two, I might have. Blows my mind to know that they had a lore cooking, but I guess there's hardly a toy like that which doesn't.
Love this video, but i have a small improvement idea: if you dont want to animate your character thingy, you could wiggle it around (A bit like the Shorts Creator "RoyalPear"). But thank you very much, please keep doing what you do❤
1:27 Funny enough, I got a couple Neo Shifters back in my BIONICLE/Transformers days and didn't find them as cool as either of those, but I did love the little guys included.
I had the Animorphs T-Rex growing up. I kept it in dinosaur mode a lot of the time because the three human figures were just plain strange to look at. One was a regular dude who had these two huge dinosaur legs for arms and a blocky battery pack for a torso and the other two had heads and body chunks for arms or legs. Very weird but definitely my vibe.
I've had an ear from one of those Gargomon toys in my unsorted bin of legos and i've wondered what it was for almost 20 years... I completely forgot about it until now lol
I rewatched the OG digimon series when it was on Netflix a couple years back. It’s not just nostalgia, that first season (50something episodes!!!) really holds up. Puppetmon still scares me.
surprised you didnt mention the D&D Diclings. They're little 20 sided dice that turn into different D&D monsters like Owlbears and Mimics. I own the mimic one and I find it really fun to transform and the design really cool
The Western transforming robot landscape is limited, probably because Transformers is synonymous with it, but besides Japan, Korea and China as of the past decade are absolutely killing it with countless original robot franchises. The most popular competitors are Tobot and Hello Carbot.
If you ever make a follow up video, one interesting line was ionix, a line of toys by spinmaster from the mid 2010s. They were different animals and humanoids/robots that transformed into lego bricks. There were some pokemon and how to train your dragon ones and an original ip called tenkai knights
You can go back even farther! When I was little I had a bunch of transforming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys that were clearly piggybacking off of Transformers' success.
Probably my favourite non transformer transformer (along with my random dollar store insect ones) has gotta be my ninja turtle transformer from the 90's. I think they were called Mutations, and the one I have goes from a Porsche to an action figure. His head goes visibly inside the car for car mode, and honestly I feel it still holds up today.
I used to have a bunch of vending machine toys that were little (like maybe an inch or two tall) insect-to-robot transformers and they were my favorite for a good while. Granted, they were more partsformers than anything else, but still, insect transformers have always been a favorite and not enough of them exist.
I had gotten a neo shifters toy at a birthday party when i was in like 3rd grade and totally had no memory of what it was! for years and years the pieces have been in my lego bins and completely perplexed me. I am so happy i coincidentally have gotten to the bottom of that! thank you so much!!!
1:29 holy sh*t I´ve had this memory of a weird robot toy that I couldn´t pinpoint for years and it´s this thing, I´m subbing just for your help with that it felt refreshing to finally figure that one out
greetings, this video made me remember that i myself have owned bootleg transformers. i did some digging for about 10 minutes, and i seem to have found the toyline my parents bought from. its the roadbot line, and looking at the pictures, i know i owned several of them. i am from central/eastern europe, so i have absolutely no idea how well-spread these things were, nor how much of a quality product the roadbot line was, but i do know i had fun with them. my favorite one was a large yellow hummer transformer
I had two of the Marvel MegaMorphs, the Spider-Man and the Wolverine ones, they were freaking awesome to me. I loved mechs, transformers, marvel and any kind of robots, so it was very fun to me. I also had the Star Wars Death Star transformer, and that was amazing, but very complicated
If you ever get into 2000s MegaBloks stuff, definitely check out their early Dragons stuff. It was a terrible Lego parallel because it didn't have much rebuildability, but the pieces themselves were so cool. Lots of detailed structures, and the minifigs and big dragons incorporated metal/magnets in them for interactions
I remember these redbull toys/models which transforms from redbull cans to vehicles(the tall european can turns into a plane, and the stubby thai/chinese can turns into mini coopers)
some great toys to check out are the Bakugan line. they are Golf Ball sized balls that have magnets and snap into cool creatures when they are place on metal
Awesome vid! I've been curious about that T-Rex Jeep for a while so seeing you cover it made me wanna watch. I love "alternative" Transformers. They're not all great but some are really fun. I just ordered the big Gotham City Guardian off of Amazon for only 35 bucks, and given it was the flagship 100 dollar Christmas toy for 2023, I'd say that's a decent deal. I wonder how it'll turn out. Great vid!!
Dude thanks for the comment I love your vids, I just looked up the Gotham City Guardian and wow yeah 35 bucks is a steal. I would def watch a vid on it if you made one!
Bro you forgot the Dicelings from Dungeons & Dragons. They’re these creatures that transform into dice. They’re really fun and kind of silly. Love them!
For the record, the Mega Morphs had their own comic. Each figure came with a mini-comic that was a chapter in the story, though later on they released a graphic novel or compilation of all of them. I got a copy off eBay. Also, while Shapeshifters was full of Spiderman characters, there were several from the X-Men stories and a few from the Avengers as well.
Bro, I had the MegaMorph Spider-Man, it was so damn well articulated, and the feel of the plastic, compared to today's standards, was amazing. I really miss Toy Biz figures...
I think multiple toys that transform into essentially the same thing but in radical different ways for one form, like with beastbox, is an interesting idea. Takara does something vaguely similar with the shinkalion toys since they're all bullet trains iirc but they're a lot more similar to eachother than they could be. The toys for super sentai series Zyuohger also flirted with the box mode thing in a more simple fashion as well.
What about Macross Valkyries? These are transforming toys (and models), solidly from a different series and are pretty cool. One of them sort of became Transformer - Jetfire original toy is an old VF-1S mold. (Also, Mospeada fighters and armor-bikes, because someone will mention the hack-dub).
I used to have a collection of the Neo-Shifters character bios; unfortunately the drive I saved them on went kaput, and with the shutdown of the Neo-Shifters site I never got to replace them.
I have a Lopmon that transforms into Cherubimon, and the Lopmon form looks cute enough that I still display it in my room. Weirdly enough, I watched a ton of Digimon back in the day, but my brain retained next to none of it.
There’s this toys that I had as a kid, I think they’re called…Zoobles? They were little balls that would transform into these little creatures. I loved those little guys
the spiderman megamorph activated a memory of having that exact spiderman mech like I remember the slightly metallic spiderman and the chest opening I don't think I actually realised it was a transforming toy tho
I remember a long time ago getting some of the form-changing robot McDonald's toys, I had the Big Mac and the fries. Those Jurassic Park egg dinos reminded me of the Rock Lords, a GoBots spin-off whose animated movie was released around the same time as The Transformers The Movie in the 80s. Robots that turned into rocks. Just what kids want, the ability to play with rocks. And parents have to buy expensive rocks.
I got the big TRex that turns into a Jeep, and love it in both modes. The Jeep is probably more like a Mini Cooper in terms of proportions, while I just love the TRex mode. For what it's accomplishing, I think the kibble is acceptable. It's crazy to think that, at least when I got it, it was only a few dollars more than a deluxe class Transformers toy. I love it, couldn't resist grabbing one on Amazon.
Go Bots is now owned by hasbro so I still consider them transformers, I like M.A.S.K. but it didn't feel like the right fit for this video, but maybe a future one!
The best one of these I ever had was one that was reversibly a Republic Star Destroyer and an Imperial Star Destroyer and the character half was reversibly Vader and Anakin.
52toys (which Is Five-Two btw not Fifty-Two) Beastbox are so fantastic I have like 25 ATM and building big walls of cubes with all these little animals are amazing I'd definitely recommend getting the Owl mould, the new Squid Mould (Downspiral) and the new mythological White Tiger, BaiHu. They're some of my personal favourites
I would have loved to see the old TMNT Mutatin' figures that went from baby turtle to ninja turtle and they came with cool accessories and one version of them came with a little can of ooze. They brought them back semi-recently with the 2012 Nickelodeon show. I had the Michelangelo one I think and it was pretty cool.
Dude the first 3 digimon seasons are ingrained into my meemory from childhood, wish i had any of the toys. Also i have a good bit of beastbox figures and they're all pretty great.
I remember that in kindergarten sometimes my class would have to go to different rooms with different classes, sometimes when we went to the youngest class I'd saw alot of sick and cool toys, most the weirdest one was a hulk figure that would turn into a raptor, I'm not sure if it was official or not but it was quite... Interesting
how is the jeep/T-Rex a shellformer, not a shellformer and a panelformer at the same time? That's hilarious. I kind of want it just because of how much I love T-Rexes though.
I remember really liking Neoshifters when I was younger, and the Marvel Megamorphs are one of those weird things I remember seeing, but never having an interest in. Also 52toys has been making a lot of other awesome stuff, including their Megabox line, which actually has some cool vehicles that combine into larger robots. They've even started making their own Diaclone scale mini figures, which I actually really like.
my only experience with the last entry, is a black and blue spider man that turned into a bat, that mysteriously appeared in my room one day, hiding amongst my transformers shelf. To this day I have no idea where it came from
Mattel around the early 2000s had their own Transforming vehicle line called "Modifighters". They were kinda an urban take on transformers and they kinda looked like ghetto go bots lmao. some of the cars were kinda cool tho like they had cars like the scion XB and a Ferrari 430. u should check them out
before beastbox theres another toyline back in the days that were pretty much a box aswell but w variety of accesories and playability Machine Robo Mugenbine(infinite combination) series
I used to have this huge red car that turned into a robot that I got from target - I forgot what it was called...but I remember I always lost the roof of the car cuz it was held on by a ball joint and would pop out rly easily

I find the concept of the Marvel MegaMorphs toyline to be hilarious. Like, The Avengers created giant transforming mechs to take out that one small guy, and that's overkilling it.
Yeah I agree 100%, but tbh they never stopped making stuff like this. Hasbro’s recent MechStrike is almost the exact same concept🤣
well, bandai recently made a few SHFigurarts of some marvel heroes, and marvel managed to make 2 storylines about that, and it gets even "dumb fun"-er
Why would THE HULK need a mech? Even if he did, wouldn't be just end up smashing it to bits from the inside?
Apparently the designs are based on some old Transtech designs
The one "little guy" is Dr. Doom so it's understandable
little fact . Marvel Megamorphs Hulk and iron man were based on cancelled toy sketches of Transtech Starscream and Megatron
well that's wrong, it was the marvel crossovers by hasbro not the megamorphs that were based on those sketches
@@A-Microwave nope, it was megamorphs. ironman is based on starscream, and hulk is based on Immorticon
This is why most companies keep everything their contract holders make. I'd flip the designs too if I were in that position.
I still wish we'd gotten that Transtech animated series.
Neo shifters were like, bootleg Bionicles, shelfwarm like crazy, in fact, even 15 ish years or so later, some are still in my town local toystore, with the boxes being yellowed to oblivion

I think this video does well to highlight how difficult engineering a transforming toy can be. Especially if one mode is an animal.
good video but the dinosaur gets in the way of the commercials

you bringing up neo shifters unlocked a core memory. i just bought a new in box one because of nostalgia.
neo shifters, does sound interesting as a video subject, as well as a type of robotic toy that turns into a car or something like a tank.

1:29 holy sh*t I´ve had this memory of a weird robot toy that I couldn´t pinpoint for years and it´s this thing, I´m subbing just for your help with that
it felt refreshing to finally figure that one out
I have several beast box figs. They remind me of the animal bot cannon fodder in the Megaman X games
greetings, this video made me remember that i myself have owned bootleg transformers. i did some digging for about 10 minutes, and i seem to have found the toyline my parents bought from. its the roadbot line, and looking at the pictures, i know i owned several of them. i am from central/eastern europe, so i have absolutely no idea how well-spread these things were, nor how much of a quality product the roadbot line was, but i do know i had fun with them. my favorite one was a large yellow hummer transformer
Awesome I'll have to look into that!
Roadbots were my inteo to tranformers, and they were cool. Simpler, but not trashy
That first entry unlocked a very old memory
I had two of the Marvel MegaMorphs, the Spider-Man and the Wolverine ones, they were freaking awesome to me. I loved mechs, transformers, marvel and any kind of robots, so it was very fun to me. I also had the Star Wars Death Star transformer, and that was amazing, but very complicated
I hope he does a video on 52Toys in general. It’s always nice to see Beast Box get some love. I have 30 figures already and I will eventually get more
i had the spiderman and ghost rider megamorphs. that was a nice recovered memory.
Oh you don't have to tell me, I'm a cerified OG Bakugan Master!
The Gobots Rock lords toys were one of my favorites as a kid. They were basically transforming rocks.
Love them!
Oh my god you're so right
For the record, the Mega Morphs had their own comic. Each figure came with a mini-comic that was a chapter in the story, though later on they released a graphic novel or compilation of all of them. I got a copy off eBay. Also, while Shapeshifters was full of Spiderman characters, there were several from the X-Men stories and a few from the Avengers as well.
If you ever do a part 2, be sure to Include switch-a-go Dinos tbh that those were my favorite non transformers
Stay tuned, April 1st 👀
Awesome video man!!! And they all look so so cool! I'd really like a video for each of the first 3 lines you showed, they look insanely amazing.
8:06 Toybiz was actually bought by Marvel. But then Marvel went bankrupt and had to make a lot of deals.
I would be so into a western line of robots that just turn into trains
Hasbro's been doing that too, with the D&D Dicelings.
And there's the king of these concept, bakugan.
Really wished Gobots and even those Zybots were mentioned. Especially since a couple other transformer wannabes ripped each other's designs
I remember GoBots. And Rock Lords.
I like Gobots/Machine Robo. I had a couple of Zybots. Didn't know Zybots had a combiner till like 5 yrs ago,and it's very strange looking.
I had 2 Neo Shifters. They were great.
I had a Hulk Crossover figure that turned into a tank.
Beastdrive sounds like a more complex version of Switch and Go Dinos. Honestly sounds really cool
I'll have to look into that! The name is definitely recognizable to me but I can't picure them
Those I'm pretty sure are just the girl version of bakugan. Bakugan is NOT a knockoff of transformers
Thank you for reminding me of Neo Shifters and unlocking a big part of my nostalgia
I remember having the Boba Fett/Slave I transformer....for about a week before I lost it at the park.
the spiderman megamorph activated a memory of having that exact spiderman mech like I remember the slightly metallic spiderman and the chest opening I don't think I actually realised it was a transforming toy tho
Also, there were some Rock transforming toys in the 80s and also GoBots and M.A.S.K.
Go Bots is now owned by hasbro so I still consider them transformers, I like M.A.S.K. but it didn't feel like the right fit for this video, but maybe a future one!
My dad has all of the Marvel Megamorphs, he displays them mint condition still in the boxes in his office
The best one of these I ever had was one that was reversibly a Republic Star Destroyer and an Imperial Star Destroyer and the character half was reversibly Vader and Anakin.
52toys (which Is Five-Two btw not Fifty-Two) Beastbox are so fantastic I have like 25 ATM and building big walls of cubes with all these little animals are amazing
I'd definitely recommend getting the Owl mould, the new Squid Mould (Downspiral) and the new mythological White Tiger, BaiHu. They're some of my personal favourites
I remeber having the Spiderman motorcycle when I was a kid that thing was badass
8:34 I only remember the commercials for these, on the back of the comics.
They actually re-released them again last year!
I bought an original agumon transformer toy last year he’s so awesome super poseable and both modes are cool even if agumon is huge
Might wanna check some random Chinese KOs.
I'm pretty sure there's alot but one that definitely comes to mind is that Thomas the Tank Engine combiner.
Dude the first 3 digimon seasons are ingrained into my meemory from childhood, wish i had any of the toys. Also i have a good bit of beastbox figures and they're all pretty great.
Season 3 was my favorite!
Interesting
There was a Beast Drive prototype that was shown recently, turns into a house cat and it's just adorable.
Absolutely. There's also a gorilla that turns into a bigass truck
@@dumbjakeworld I haven't seen the Gorilla Truck, I need to find that! Also, I think I might sub here.
@@bushybeardedbear thanks man I appreciate the support! I have more content on the way!
Ive never heard of any of these. But the neo shifters and beast boxes look super cool and i kinda wanna check em out!
how is the jeep/T-Rex a shellformer, not a shellformer and a panelformer at the same time? That's hilarious.
I kind of want it just because of how much I love T-Rexes though.
I'm the same way lol, it looks bad but also... kinda want it
I remember really liking Neoshifters when I was younger, and the Marvel Megamorphs are one of those weird things I remember seeing, but never having an interest in.
Also 52toys has been making a lot of other awesome stuff, including their Megabox line, which actually has some cool vehicles that combine into larger robots. They've even started making their own Diaclone scale mini figures, which I actually really like.
Ok ngl the Dino in the thumbnail looks cool
my only experience with the last entry, is a black and blue spider man that turned into a bat, that mysteriously appeared in my room one day, hiding amongst my transformers shelf. To this day I have no idea where it came from
1:20 Could these have inspired the asteroid like forms of the Bayverse Transformers when they first landed on Earth, two years later, in 2007?
Maybe! It would be a cool connection if they were!
Mattel around the early 2000s had their own Transforming vehicle line called "Modifighters". They were kinda an urban take on transformers and they kinda looked like ghetto go bots lmao. some of the cars were kinda cool tho like they had cars like the scion XB and a Ferrari 430. u should check them out
Those 52Toys transforming toys are *SO* cute and cool! ☺
before beastbox theres another toyline back in the days that were pretty much a box aswell but w variety of accesories and playability
Machine Robo Mugenbine(infinite combination) series
Jurassic park is gold for this
I used to have this huge red car that turned into a robot that I got from target - I forgot what it was called...but I remember I always lost the roof of the car cuz it was held on by a ball joint and would pop out rly easily
