    As much as I liked the film and it's cliché to say the book was better which it was, I think Spileberg blew it by not giving some sceen time to Frank's time in the French prison as well as the Swedish extradition and compare his time in jail over there. It would've showed that Frank paid heavy for those years in the French prison, his release and extradition to Sweden was NOT only a relief to the reader but comical as well as suspensful. Speilberg didn't have to remake Papillion but that's what it was like, a long time in darknes, no bed or toilet, then suddenly he gets extradited to a Swedish prison, where they cleaned him up, gave him medical attention and a country club syle cell. Then Frank begged not to be released, even escaped briefly knowing that he was facing some 2 or 3 lifetimes of extraditions, thus he had to escape throught the toilet on the plane back to the US. On the other hand Spielberg picked up on the rehabilitation part and the relationship with Handratty (Hanks character) that Abagnale the writer didn't go in much depth. I think both sides could easily have been in the film. It's a great film and moves well yet Speilberg a legendary filmmaker and craftsman, surely could have got that all in less than 7 to 10 minutes of screentime and well worth it. It would be better for Frank, the man of today, that the world had some more idea of how he paid for his crime and it would have absolutely killed the Hollywood glamourization of being a clever handsome, young Dicaprio conman. If the film had shown at least the scene as the book describes, Frank (Leonardo) leaving the French prison with dreadlock like hair, caked in his own dried feces and incapable of opening his eyes due to being in darkness for so long, that would've been more revealing, dramatic and sympathathetic. You get it then, that crime doesn't pay. 3 mins of screen time at least! Very frusturating. It may have been nominated for an Oscar at least given Leonard some more levels to play with and he may have had an Oscar winning scene and we could've said the film was better than the book, maybe.

      A movie has 2.5 hours to tell a story and it is impossible to cram everything in. The director has to think about how to keep the audience attention and he has to leave out lots of things.
      The movie probably only got a fraction of the story.

    • @garrettbays6942
      @garrettbays6942 Год назад

      Spielberg screwed up entirely by not doing any research, and believing everything this liar told him. Spielberg's whole movie is just one big work of fiction, praising and sympathizing a criminal that really treated his parents like garbage, and never paid for the actual crimes (not displayed in the film, or mentioned in his fake book) that he committed.

    The scam he mentions at the end is pretty much exactly the same as the one suggested by Eddy in Lock Stock just with different names for things, instead of dildos it's pornography and instead of the rather long winded offensive name Eddy gave it was what Frank said here. If that scam wasn't inspired by that film I would be stunned.

    22:20 - funny! Lock stock and two smoking barrels (1998) wrote a variation of virtually that exact same scam he's describing. That means very these two boys, four years down the track, could have seen lock stock, and thought: "shit, that ain't half bad" effectively making Guy Richie the mastermind behind their crime! Hilarious!

    He talks about his company as in the movie credits and teaching and advising FBI without pay but in a receant Google interview he does not mention anything about his company or having companies as clients but only said he kept his job as an agent at the FBI. Go figure. But whatever it is he was young and unwise and suffered horribly for his actions for ten years, away from family, friends, his country, running away or in jail, lost his youth, his friends, schooling, and his father along the way.

      Thanks to youth and luck he enjoyed an awesome adventure, but all alone with no peace of mind he created a good life and a good family..he gave back to society for all of us , we are all just humans remembering that we are all one “family” ...that outcome would not be possible (the good outcome) if we cannot count on the power of people who are loving unconditionally and their forgiveness, he would have been miserable 😩 and none of us would enjoyed the experience. Let’s hope we all can forgive ourselves and use the positive energy to help others who may have less luck or less talent but we can enjoy helping others who can pass it on and pay it forward. Please don’t waste your time making my philosophy of life sound negative or foolish--who cares..try doing good, when ever you can and forgive me if I bothered you . I don’t believe we need any supernatural god to tell us what to do...we do want your help and love 💕 even unearned love is powerful and I want to give it to you and anyone else who can make a difference. Thanks

I used to be crazy about this film, and I liked the book, but after reading the real story, and finding out so much of a continual fake he continues to be, I can't stand it. He continues making money based on his lies.

      Yup. I just heard of this guy for the first time 2 days ago. He did an interview on Carson. Then I checked out some other things and saw a comment similar to yours. They mentioned the book, and I decided to read it instead. Within 2 days, I can't stand the guy. The way he treated families who took him in is brutal. Then figure in he wasn't some big time international crook. He was a small time shyster who usually got caught within a week or 2.
      The glorification of this guy is unreal. I can understand it in the pre-internet days. It's kind of surprising that even with all the information today, people still buy into his story.
