Hey buddy, you are lapping a little fast. Should put drill on low setting, or get a back lapper. Just a little info coming from some golf course maintenance experience as well as I teach turf management. Lap every 3-5 cuts and also sharpen bed knife as frequently to get the best results and keep your lawn healthy! Beautiful yard and thank you for the video
I just picked up one a John Deere 180b a month ago for 150 bucks! the only problem I have is setting the HOC. Still new to the reel mower. but It's a beast of a mower!
@@nathangartner4822 So I am super fancy and use a top of the line 2x4 haha. I just use a 2x4 thats long enough to span the front and back roller and measure from that to the bedknife all the way across. Its not fancy but it has worked perfectly for me this past season.
That's really cool, always nice to a how to video and considering everyone has to cut their yards it's pretty interesting to see the products you can use.
Great one! Gives others hope they can hone there's too! My machine benefits from me squaring the front of the bed knife with a file from time to time. It's not perfectly square, it has a small angle so just the edge makes contact. I have to take it off to do a nice job but it makes sure the "other" side of the scissors is nice. Your bedknife is much different, only a slim piece of steel, I don't know if you could do the same. Whatever, I thought it might be something you could do at home also......
Awesome suggestion my friend! I was actually just reading about this the other day, I think they were calling it facing the bedknife. I will more than likely be trying this out in the next little bit! I really appreciate you watching and commenting!
Overall, what's the better mower in your opinion, your JD180 or your Toro Greensmaster? And, just got in to your channel last night, love the eclectic choices of background music....
Haha thanks! As far as whats better, man thats like asking which kid is your favorite. Honestly, I mow with both of them almost every time I mow. I like to mow with one them follow after it with the other. But if it came down to only having 1 I would probably have to go with the Toro, the things I like more about the Toro are the controls, they are more intuitive and easy to use. Thanks for the question keep them coming!
It's a 5 lb jar and I may have used one tenth of a pound. It was like 20 bucks so in my opinion way worth it! Feel free to ask away man I don't know it all but I know enough to get me into trouble!

Brett's grasscapades I see your on thelawnforum.com as well. Good stuff. I just read the whole thread on Deere greens mowers as I’m about to start that journey.
Hello hello, what type of oil you use, and what’s the capacity in the crankcase. I just picked up one and I wanna put fresh oil,,, got to change the belts, watching ur Videos and Connors video made me pull the trigger to start mowing short.
I've got a cool season blend of kbg, PRG and fescue. I almost always use both mowers because I find it catches any of the stragglers the other may have left. It certainly isn't necessary but I do it anyway.
I always want to go out and buy a reel mower whenever I watch your videos...great vid Brett!!
Thanks man!

Thanks for the information man!
Use a piece of lined paper to check the quality of cut. And also lapping it at 80grit first then 120 grit second gets a nice edge

you didn't show us how tight you made the reel to bedknife contact and how it cut paper.
Agreed.
