    Very helpful! By the way how is the latency when you capture another PC's screen?

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  11 дней назад +1

      Latency has not been an issue for me. I find this method works better then remote access software be it TeamViewer, Anydesk, Chrome Remote Desktop, all of which get latency even on the LAN.

    I am just looking for a solution that does not imply installing software on the source device. I would like to use my iMac M3 as a secondary monitor for my work computer with Windows 10, however I cannot install additional software on it. This seems a very good and cost effective solution. Thanks for the content!

      You’re welcome. I know this solution does require using OBS studio, but for what it’s worth the software is free.
      They are very few computers out these days that have a video input option. I picked up several good quality HP all in one computers as salvage from a job. They had the option to function as a monitor with the single press button. I gave one to each of my daughters in college, and they love it. They connect their Macs to it where it works as a 23-in screen.
      For the rest of us, a solution like this is pretty much all that we have available.

    Hey, so I've been trying to use my windows laptop as a secondary screen for my iMac late 2012 running macOS Catalina, while connecting the capture card from thunderbolt port to hdmi and hdmi to usb it doesnt show anything, it just shows a blank screen and I wanted to use it as a secondary monitor for my iMac. What do i do?

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  5 месяцев назад +2

      Now, I do not have a late 2012 iMac to test with, but what I have seen on the web states that your model does not support a USB to HDMI adapter. What you will need to use is a mini DV to HDMI adapter. Then you will be able to use an HDMI cable to connect the iMac to the windows laptop.
      At that point, you can run OBS studio on the Windows laptop in fullscreen mode, which the iMac will identify as an external monitor and utilize. You can get just such an adapter on Amazon for around $10. If for any reason it still chokes, you can always return the adapter.
      Please keep me posted as there will no doubt be others who want to do what you’re doing.

      you could connect your headphones to the controller

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  7 месяцев назад +2

      Make sure the mic/aux in the "Audio Mixer" panel is enabled. Look at the properties to see which device it is selecting for audio. If it is default, launch the "Midi" app to see what is the default audio. You want it to come from HDMI via the video capture dongle. OBS is defaulting to some other audio input source, which is why the video is mute.

      Select Transform -> Fit to Screen
      That should do the trick.

    How would you do this with a MacBook Pro 2019 to pc windows 10 using a elgato HD60x. I want my pc to use OBS to capture my MacBook Pro screen

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  3 месяца назад +1

      Good question. Actually, using a Elgato HD60s was the first way I started to capture a video screen. I used it to capture Windows servers & media players to my MacBook Pro. That said, it was a bit cumbersome to take the setup to the (IT) field. Sometimes it was awkward to keep the cables & Elgator from falling. I finally settled on this approach because it is just a USB-c to HDMI input adapter - far simpler and lighter.
      Now, I believe the HD60s isn't supported by MacOS as of Monterey or Ventura. If I understand correctly, you're looking to use a more recent HD60X on a Windows PC capturing the MacBook Pro screen. That will work just fine. My hangups about using the Elgato are much less of an issue for you if the setup will be static, and the host OS Windows.

    I can't find Videp Capture USB 3.0 driver for macos

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  2 месяца назад

      What video capture device are you using? The three simple HDMI to USB-c video input adapters I have all worked with MacOS’ built-in drivers. I’ve not needed any drivers at all. Now, the El Gato capture devices may have compatibility issues and require drivers, but these simple ones do not.
      Make sure you are using a video “input” or capture device. They look identical to USB-c to HDMI output adapters, but the latter are designed to send out video to a monitor. The input capture variants take a video signal as an input and with software like OBS, they display the output to your Mac’s screen. The make that input video function act like a quasi picture-in-picture or even have the Mac act as though it were a monitor.

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  4 месяца назад +1

      Context: I no longer have an Intel-based Mac.
      That said, Debut Video Capture software runs on Intel MacOS 10.4.4 and later. Reviews for it in the App Store say it lacks features the Windows & paid versions include. Most of the complaints regarding it is due to users wanting to perform advanced features. No one has knocked its basic feature to capture video input.
      Pannypanda2940, I can't give you the testimonial from personal use. Give it a try. Let me know if it does the job.

    how do I fix the input lag

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  14 дней назад

      What video capture device are you using? Also, is the video cable designed ton match that speed?
      The capture device should be 1080p 60fps at minimum. The HDMI cable should match or exceed that quality.
      Some video input dongles are 30fps only. Also, some of those Five & Below HDMI cables were designed for the lowest graphics and will introduce lag, flicker, etc.
      Lastly, make sure you’re in a high-speed port. USB-C would be best, but make sure it’s one of those blue USB ports and not the black one.

    • @technologistonthego2377
      @technologistonthego2377  4 месяца назад

      The PC doesn’t have any tie to the Mac. All that is happening is the PC’s video output is being captured on the Mac. That video can be recorded on the Mac, but as far as video goes, the PC believes it’s seeing a monitor that is actually the Mac.
