I have been told medicaid pays for the nursing home. I have been here 5 months. I have chronic metabolic acidosis and the cartilage is missing from between my leg and hip bones. I am in a wheelchair. AND medicare has been paying for the physical therapy and occupational therapy. It is way past the first 100 days. AND this nursing home demands $858 from my SS money every month. HHS sent me papers saying I was supposed to pay $858, which leaves me only $60 to pay for the phone and the organic veggies and fruits and other expenses like incontinent pads. I had to lose my storage, so when I need shoes how will I buy them? They have to be crocs.
This nursing home stopped paying for the incontinance pads because I was using them on my legs, which are draining liquids enough for a change 3 to 4 times a day. I think medicare/medicaid is paying for these and I should not have to. This nursing home is very stingy. I find online that these nursing homes are being paid around $6000 a month for each person. This is a very old nursing home. It puts 2 people in each bedroom and the wheelchairs don't even fit in the bathroom. The food is constant mashed potatoes and rice and ice cream and some kind of chopped up meat most times. We are lucky to get salads and fruit.
The roommate I have now says she is not paying any of her money to the nursing home and medicaid has not been paying. She is still here. Why isn't $6000 a month for each person enough for these nursing homes? One person does not use up that much money. In an apartment I would not be paying that much. Except for getting ACE wraps and food and a bed and chair and tv and water and A/C, I get not much of anything else. I get half a bedroom. They furnish shampoo and towels and blankets and somebody to sweep and mop. How much is all of this worth? They pay for washing the dishes. Somebody wraps my legs with pads and ACE bandages sometimes.
What will happen when I stop giving away my SS money to this nursing home?

Also. Many people are trying to stop using the phrase "Nursing Home" because of the negative connotations from the past. All the names and acronyms to describe the different "Skilled Nursing Facilities" can be confusing.
