I spent 5 years as one of an assistant to Jimmy Ballard and I can honestly say that Jimmy never taught this (which he should have) but taught toe up to toe up, which you are correct Craig its hard to control! I have since changed my own swing to exactly as YOU taught this gentleman. THE great Mike Dunaway said the club face is like an airplane coming in for landing and receives a message to Abort, it doesn't turn left or it would crash, but goes straight up! This is a excellent presentation, and you are right so much misunderstood terms! Thank for posting this!!
Really great vid. Well Done !! This is the Modern Approach to golf, which makes a lot of sense, and i think it will reduce my handicap as i have been missing greens to slight left and right for months...Huge thanks for this one. !
Another great lesson! You were absolutely clear in describing exactly what needs to happen to control face and path to produce consistently square contact. Love it. What you just did is almost exactly what I did this winter in practice. Start with getting the face square and keeping it there through the entire swing and the rest will follow pretty well from there. I found my path self corrected as I got the face square I had to push my path out to the right to keep from over drawing the ball. And I had never hit a draw in my life before changing this.
This one resonates with me, especially my general lack of awareness of the club face (and multi-directional miss). My fear is that my wrist injury (limited range of motion) will make this quite tricky to accomplish, but I’m definitely giving it a try! Thanks for sharing all these videos (this is Loren - p/t worker at the Podium position)
Hi Craig Found your channel and subscribed great content. Could you please explain why no hip bump in forward swing sequence (discussed in Saber training) All the best from Scotland 🏴.
A mini bump of the hip is a close cousin to the dreaded slide. Bumping or sliding is the wrong way to get the club to come from the inside and leads to early extension and blocks or flips. An arm swing down with a pivot and post against the lead leg gives is better posture through impact and more speed and club face stability. Cheers Mate! Love me some Haggis!
The face should stay neutral or square all the way back and through if possible yes! Although most have some movement the less the better! Just remember the club face is square the the plane and path not the target line.
@@CraigHocknullGolf Craig, that move rests the club more in my right hand trigger finger at the top. Which for me makes it more natural to perform the release that you recommend.

Where is this course?
Park City, Utah
Craig, the square face takeaway all the way to the top, is that something you recommend in general or is that to help this specific student ?

That’s perfect!
