Three generation Singaporean here and Father of two. The cost of living in Singapore is getting out of hand, and the country is not apt for larger families. Houses are getting smaller, cars are getting INSANELY expensive. It's a huge challenge to travel in a private car if you have more than two kids. The Sandwich Generation is struggling to make ends meet, taking care of their parents and also their children.
I'm from Singapore. I beg to differ. I agree due to the countries small size you have to let go of some luxury like own big houses or owning affordable cars. If you ignore these two, as a citizen you are very well taken care of. Salaries you earn here and the strength of Singapore dollar makes the cost of living manageable. You also enjoy very generous subsidies from the government. Every year during budget the government only increase and adding more subsidies for it's citizens. And the biggest plus living in Singapore is Malaysia is right across. If you want to quick weekend get away or do cheap shopping, just take a train and cross the border and you immediately enjoy enjoy 3x cheaper food, shopping and recreation..
Do more research and mix well with the locals first to know more. I agree with some of your points on the cost of living. The minorities can't move up the ladders, and have to live in lower ranks jobs. The big percentage migration of indians moved out from SG to Australia, US and Canada in the 80s and 90s, understand this. You cant have more children with low income and high cost. Common sense.
