  • Kwatha - a magnificent little village in Tengnoupal District maintains its serenity and harmony by the unified decision-making and governance of one Khullakpa and eleven Luplakpa. Happening only at the demise/resignation of a former Luplakpa, Pham Kaba is a ceremony that is essentially the celebration that follows the succession of a new Luplakpa.
Pham Kaba is particularly exuberant, with all the music and dancing in the streets leading the villagers on the way and back to summon the Khullakpa and the respective Luplakpa's for a feast. This festival entails not only the promotion of a new Luplakpa but also the coming-of-age ceremony of the youth of Kwatha.
The village manages to preserve its ancestral ways and tradition in a spectacular fashion against the ripple of the changing times and societal values. Pham Kaba is one such effort.
