Holy. Crap. Incredible. Thank you, thank you, thank you Odd Thomas (as well as the rest of the Humble Beast brothers) for your incredible ministry through rap/hip hop/spoken word & music. You guys are raising the bar higher & higher. Soli Deo Gloria!
"Dear brothers and sisters, I pray God may open your eyes and let you see what hidden treasures he bestows on us in the trials from which the world thinks only to flee. Shame turns into honor when we seek God's glory. Present affliction becomes the source of heavenly glory." - Saint John of Avila
Although we all might not be able to completely understand what Christ went through we who are Christians still remember and honor Christ our savior. Taking up the cross means allot.. Although here is one thing that I thought of.. Aster that time mankind has learned from it's past mistakes.. For example we don't crucify anyone in the literal sense... most of us accept everyone for who they are.. Adrenal it is not our job to judge.. That is God's job.. Thank you good for our lord Jesus.. Amen
As a producer and a christian you are a huge inspiration. I am proud to be mocked for my beliefs and hope more and more we learn to use our gifts, spiritual and technological, to spread Christs message.
Yes. Christians believe that Christ suffered the pains and the sicknesses and the sins of all people. Every divorce, sorrow, loss, sickness, sin, bad decision, unfair situation, hunger, thirst, fatigue, everything that every human has faced. This explains the great drops of blood that came from every pore in his body in the Garden of Gethsemane and his hurt on the cross. This is why he asks us to follow him and allow him to heal us, because he can heal us, and he does know our struggle.
When Jesus took the worlds sin while hanging on the cross, the sky turned black. That was God turning away from Jesus because he could not look at him with all the sin. That was when Jesus was separated from God.
The whole of Psalm 22 is about Jesus, quoted at least 5 times in the NT. (1) My God, My God (22:1) (2) If God is his father, let him rescue him (22:8) (3) They pierced my hands and feet (22:16) (4) They divide my garments and cast lots (22:18) (5) In the midst of the congregation I will priase you (22:22, Heb 2:12)
That is a Psalm of David. 22 I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people. 23 Praise the Lord, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence, all you descendants of Israel! 24 For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help. where does it say anything about jesus?
I did. May God get all the glory. May faith come by hearing. May many callous hearts be convicted in utter broken humility. May Christ be glorified and not another. Amen.
This is one of those tricky "double-edged" parts of the bible when it can be interpreted. When Jesus was crucified, it is believed that Jesus went to hell to save the souls who hadn't had a chance to be forgiven. I would hesitate to say Jesus was separated from god, since Jesus is god he is still part of the trinity, but went to a place where God's presence doesn't exist. So the trinity, isn't necessarily compromised. Does that seem to make sense?
At 2:08 or so you say Jesus was "separated from God." How can that be without destroying the Trinity? Where in the Crucifixion accounts do you get this idea? I see no mention of "God's wrath," especially directed on Jesus. In Mk 10:38-39 the "cup" Jesus is going to drink he says the Apostles will also drink, which isn't God's wrath but rather persecutions that God allows his servants to experience so they can manifest their love and loyalty to Him. (Phil 2:8; Heb 5:7-9)
Could you describe how Jesus suffered more than a child that is undergoing cancer treatment - their suffering lasts more than one day, extreme pain and sickness and with no salvation for anyone. Many times they don't even know why they suffer - this is the only way of life for them. What does Jesus' suffering have to do with anything? Many suffer way more day after day.
Mary Porter because Jesus never sinned. That was the whole point . A lamb without blemish was sacrificed. It's an awesome concept. I agree , it can get frustrating at times to fully comprehend it , because our human minds are limited. There is verifiable evidence that Jesus resurrected . No faith in history can stay so resolute if it's source was from a lie.
The problem with this question is that it seems to presuppose that Christ, in his sacrifice, was getting into some sort of agony contest with everyone, trying to prove that he suffered more than anyone else. I'm sure that's beyond the point. Jesus's suffering was for the sin of humanity, and it persisted beyond death. Three days in the place of the dead by our time, but perhaps near endless in terms of eternity. I'd say there's nothing to measure that with. Odd Thomas's short piece has to do with "Christian" suffering. Not just suffering in general. Christian suffering can only be experienced by the followers of Christ. Suffering, unqualified, however, could happen to Christian and non-Christian alike. It's not saying that suffering from cancer and even the loss of loved ones aren't real suffering or, perhaps, Less suffering. I wouldn't say there is any room for comparison, actually; however, suffering is "unpleasant" no matter what category it falls in. Again the focus is Christian suffering as modelled after Christ's.
Sorry, but I think you're reading way too much into the text, assuming too much. I'm especially concerned that you don't seem worried about the Trinitarian implications of Jesus being separated from the Father. If Jesus was a sweet smelling aroma sacrifice to the Father (Eph 5:2), then it makes little sense to say God couldn't look at Him. And in the messianic Psalm 22, verse 24 explicitly says God "did not hide his face" from Jesus. A black sky was the universe 'mourning' a huge tragedy.
It's very clear that this was a reference to Matthew 27:46. Christ's words were explicit enough. Whatever implications stem from that are scripturally acknowledged.
Still listening to this in 2021! One of my favs!

We actually believe that he suffered the pain and sin of every human lifetime, one by one.
If Odd Thomas and Twenty One Pilots did a collab together I would be the happiest person on this side of the Mississippi hahaha
Awesome...

I'm pretty sure he's referring to Matthew 27:46 (Mark 15:34). The meaning of the word "Forsake" is really hard to mix up. Perhaps, you know that now.
