Thanks for watching and do subscribe for more content!
I didnt use a book to learn the guitar or guitar theory. But I did get my hands on the table of contents of a theory book. I just researched the topics and started practicing. This helped my cut through a lot of the fluff.
I was using Music Theory for Guitarist by Tom Kolb. It was a great book. I strongly recommend this book to all guitarists.
Would you recommend it for just electrical guitar or even acoustic.
Just wonderful, been searching for "bass guitar speed trainer" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Peynharlotte Acoustic Smasher - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my neighbour got cool success with it.
Cheers for the Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you researched - Riddleagan Skillful Playing Remedy (do a search on google)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for learning complex guitar chords and become a pro minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate at very last got amazing success with it.
Thank you so much!
Awesome! Thx for posting! I’ve been debating on purchasing but will buy it tonight!!
Hey thanks for watching and I'm glad my video helped with that decision!
thanks for review
great. thank you
Thank you, sir! Useful information for me!
Welcome! Glad the video helped!
Thank you
"Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method" by Mel Bay... "A Modern Method for Guitar" by William Leavitt...
Mark was a teacher at the Dick Grove school of music in Van Nuys Ca, Los Angeles county.
Tom Kolb...Great player...Nice guy
What the name of the guitar intro playing in the background
Hello, thanks for the reviews. I'm currently working through Tom Kolb's book and I find it very useful. Which book would you recommend to start when I finish Tom Kolb's book? Like what's the next step for me if I want to go even deeper into music theory? Thanks again :)
Well I would recommend checking out the other book I reviewed in the video because he does have 3 volumes so that should be a lot to go through. If you want something guitar centric though I'm afraid there's not much options. I would recommend getting a book that has the theory and practicality explained and there are 2-3 books I would recommend:
1.) All-in-ONe GUitar soloing course by Daniel Gilbert
2.) Chord Tone Soloing by Barret Tagliarino
3.) Any Jamey Aebersold jazz book focused on guitar
Hello! Would you recommend self learning or have a real guitar teacher instead? Thinking of buying these books but I’m afraid it would help me but won’t advance my guitar skills. Thanks for the review.
Hi thanks for watching this. Depends on where you are at playing skill wise. I think the one advantage of having a real guitar teacher is that effectively you are paying for someone to show you an efficient and direct way to improve whereas through books you might make a detour here and there. Based on my own experience I thought I was doing alright until I decided to go to Musicians Institute and realised the merits of studying under someone.
One small point I want to make is (which is why i asked where you are at playing-wise): make sure you know how to play songs i.e. have a repertoire because that is what you need to do, Ive met too many people who rely too much on books and technical information but can't play a song.
Is this a good follow up to hal leanords guitar method 1,2,3?
Both books would serve as good supplements, dont think of it as a follow up, rather move on to learning songs or other techniques and have these books as additional reading, especially if you just completed the Hal Leonard guitar method books
Is this available here in philippines?
hal Leonard is only for electric guitar players, right? Can you recommend me the best book for learning rhythm for acoustic guitar? I really really want to learn how to play guitar. Thanks in advance:›
That book can also apply to acoustic players as well just that some portions talk about electric playing. My advice to learn how to play guitar would be just start learning songs. Check out my channel for some videos: I teach you how to strum and start learning songs
I have lost the 'CD' of Hal Leonard, how can I access the audio tracks online ?
Unfortunately you would need to purchase a newer edition of the book that comes with an access code to access the audio tracks.
does music theory by tom kolb cover modes?
Yep
Hi Justin, I am studying Hal Leonard's Music Theory book that you reviewed here. I am really stuck on fig.11 P.11. I don't see in the book anywhere where he explains what he means by ...(1e) + a 2 e (+a) (3e) + a 4 (e+} a ??? a what? e?, he doesn't seem to be talking about an A note or E note..or short for eighth note? I am confused and can't move on until I get this. Hope you can help. thanks
Hi John, let me explain: for eighth notes the subdivision is "1 +", 1 being the first half and + being the second half. In some schools we call the '+' "and" instead so "1 and 2 and etc".
For sixteenth notes it is subdivided by ' 1 e + a " where each symbol/syllable accounts for each sixteenth subdivision. Sometimes we say "1 e and a" instead.
So the third example which you wrote out is just the author explaining how to count all the subdivisions especially if you start mixing/joining them up and you would count it in terms of sixteenth notes subdivisions. so '1 e' combined give you an Eighth note
hope this helps
@@JustinLow Thanks for getting back to me on this. You gave the key I needed to understand this section. I need to do more work on it but at least now thanks to you I will be able to get there..thanks

Hi yes it has both notation and tab
Yes. But it has notes only for the majority of the exercises/songs, so you must be able to read music.
