There are plenty of northern lights flights from the UK, where they go off the north coast, circle for a while to see the lights, then fly back to the point of origin.

Congress previously told the Transportation Department to review airline seating policies and consider how to ensure that children under 14 sit with an older family member at no extra cost. The department issued guidance last July urging airlines to do so “to the maximum extent practicable.”

Returning to point of destination?? I’ve done this on a fear of flying experience flight from Manchester with views of North Wales coast, Snowdonia, Lake District and then Peak District when descending…..all in under 1 hour

Ps the irony of an episode of covering “no water in the air but too much on the ground “

And finally true story re. Baggage checked in…..in the 70s returning from summer holiday in Spain to Gatwick on. Dan Air Comet (different times !) firstly after 2 hr coach to Girona only to find fog bound and diverted to Barcelona (hence coach journey back the way we came) told to check in luggage only belatedly told of technical issue so 24hrs in Barcelona heat wearing clothing for night time Gatwick arrival. Following morning flew back with greasy overhaul engineer on flight. Only flight ever taken when flew low level pass the control tower to presumably visually check undercarriage was down !

A spokeswoman for Airlines for America, a trade group that represents the largest U.S. carriers, said its members - including American, United, Delta and Southwest - don’t charge family-seating fees, although some budget airlines do.

A new bill, the first of its kind in the U.S., would ban security screening company Clear from operating at California airports as lawmakers take aim at companies that let consumers pay to pass through security ahead of other travelers.

I do enjoy this show, but i think the discussion around "what would I do in this situation" was a little irresponsible. In an event like this the best thing to do if you are in a safe environment is to stay in place.
Emergency services have enough to do without tourists lugging their baggage around trying to find a hotel. At best you're just another person clogging up roads or transport, at worst you become someone they need to rescue using up valuable resources (which is easily avoidable).
The airport is a safe place, if it ceases to be so it becomes a priority for emergency services to provide food or aid. Monitor communications to be up to date but otherwise chill in the lounge or terminal until movement does become safe. If you sleep a night on the floor, just think of those who are trapped in much worse situations.

"Emirates Suffers Worst Meltdown in Its History!" All that irrelevant gab. 26 minutes until I found the section about Emirates. What a waste of my time.

President Biden took swipes at airlines and hotels Wednesday as he called on Congress to limit certain extra charges they impose on consumers. Biden said Congress should restrict airline seat-assignment fees imposed on families trying to sit together, so-called resort fees that many hotels now tack on to the bill, excessive service charges on tickets for concerts and sporting events, and fees to switch or cancel internet, cable or cellphone service.
