Yarn barf doesn't bother me and I never throw any away. I have BINS of scrap Yarn that gets tangled and I just go with it. Take my time and eventually it all comes out. I can't afford to throw away any.
Is it weird that I enjoy untangling the yarn mess from centre pulling outside pulls? Thanks for the review, glad you liked them and described each in such detail.
What a great video - I love Yarn Snob reviews! I think the issue you experience with a lot of the "yarn barf" is that Sirdar is a UK Brand, and here we don't tend to pull our yarn from the centre.
I live in the states and I never pull the yarn from the center. I use the Wool Jeanie or I wrap it in a ball. I'm definitely like my distant relatives across the pond in this regard! :)
I’m in the states too and don’t pull skeins from the center. I was taught about a million years ago the I should wind it into a ball. That way you can deal with flaws up front and the outside of a ball of yarn stays cleaner than a skein which absolutely mattered when I was crocheting at 8 years old.
@@BarefootCrochet I use the 1lb of yarns from the center pull, but those are acrylic and I haven't had much of an issue. I was told to not worry about winding into a ball unless its a natural fiber yarn, in which case I'm usually buying those in a hank. Some brands in the states even had arrows showing which side of the skein to pull the center from, or put a little sticker on the center pull (Hobbii does this a fair bit with their different lines).
Toni - the way you just said no thank you to that yarn barf! Also... the nails! My mini is watching with me and said - "Toni's nails are ALWAYS on point!"
I’m fairly new to crochet and been an avid watcher of the channel and I literally gasped when the idea of throwing away the yarn barf. For oil shape skeins like many Al have said I would have just pulled from the outside. And if I was determined to use center strain I would just take out the tangle. Just throwing my money away, nah. And if I cut it off I would repurpose in some other way.
Funny, I usually never pull yarn wound that way from the center. I have a little basket I sit it in so when I unwind it from the outside the skein doesn't roll all over the place. Pulling it from the center is a recipe for disaster. But it looks like great yarn. I love the colors!
I love Sirdar's Country Classic - it's 50/50 wool/acrylic that's fab for wearables, it doesn't feel sweaty like acrylic can do, but also wears well over time with machine washing.
Hello from a fellow Michigander!!2025 has started with learning Tunisian crochet with your wonderful book I got for Christmas - thank you for writing the book and all you do for the crochet community ❤
Thank you for this review. Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK is my go to acrylic. I’ve crocheted and knitted so many toys with it. Widely available in the UK where we pronounce it Sir Dar rather than seer dar.
Happy New Year Toni! Silk Road has some Sirdar yarns and I LOVE Jewelspun! I snagged a couple balls of it the last time I was down there and it's SO nice! The colorways are gorgeous and it's a total joy to work with.
Sirdar is pronounced 'sir-dar' (not seer-dar), and it's based in Yorkshire. The reason you're getting so much yarn barf is because skeins wrapped that way are not really designed to be centre-pulled. I never try and centre-pull any yarn wound into a skein like that. Jewel Spun is indeed gorgeous, but it runs to £6.99++ here, and that's too expensive for my self-imposed price ceiling.
Agree completely. In Europe, yarn is generally designed NOT to be centre pulled. I got some Jewelspun last week at John Lewis for £8. Okay, it's not cheap, but it does knit up so well.
I made myself a hexa-cardy with Jewelspun and it's an absolute dream to crochet with. The cardy washes really well on the wool setting. Thank you for your review, Toni x
Definitely much cheaper here in Uk. As others have said, they are outside pulls. Most British brands end up with huge yarn barfs lol. Jewelspun is a gorgeous yarn. Great review
Absolutely love the Bonus Dk. It's my go to for quick throws and blanket gifts... Literally making a Granny square blanket for a house warming with this as we speak. Never short of colours. So glad yarn snob approves 😊
Thanks for sharing Sirdar is quite cheap here in the UK, as it’s an English brand Last month my sister sent me some Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk DK yarn to make her some wrist warmers, and they turned out really lovely. I usually use cotton and mainly make amigurumi, but the Sirdar yarn was easy to work with, and I’ll definitely use it again
Sirdar has been big here in Ireland for a long long time I remember my mom using sirdar yearsss ago ( I’m nearing the big 4-0 in age ) we still have their patterns from when I was small - and don’t hold me to it but I think the cardi I wore for my confirmation was a sirdar pattern. It was gorgeouuuuss! I wouldn’t compare the jewel to winterglow from Hobbii though Toni - true you get a similar colourway but I made a cowl with winterglow over Christmas and the thickness of the yarn was inconsistent, it kinda got to me but I said it just must be the type yarn it is - some bits were thicker and some were like thread ! ( I lovvvveeee Hobbii - don’t get me wrong , I have their plan and buy many many gorgeous yarns from them ) but it’s only the colours that are comparable in that yarn , not the yarn itself ❤ x
I remember buying sirdar yarn 50 years ago I mostly used it for baby things. I hate yarn barf. And if it gets to much , snip and throw I have started using all my skeins of yarn from the outside. Thanks for the video. Always informatine
Most brands you review arent available here in New Zealand, but everytime I go to my local brand store I am tempted to buy Jewelspun. After your review maybe I'll finally give into that temptation. The hexardigan is a great idea for how to use it!
Hey good idea, I never thought about when pulling for center pull when u want to start a project is to just cut it and use them later for mini squares if I have the time . Lol!
I’ve liked Sirdar for a long time; but haven’t bought in awhile. You sure picked some beauties, all new to me. I especially love the marled balls. Thanks for the review! ❤
Toni, I love you, but hearing you say you throw away that much yarn for no reason hurt my soul 😂 Just pull from the outside and stop wasting so much yarn and money 😂
I was so excited for this video!!!!!! Sirdar is my fav brand, jewelspunnis my absolute favourite!!! I made a raglan out of the citrine sunrise it’s so pretty!!!!!! And I have a huge blanket in the jewelspun chunky! Love the idea of making a hexagon cardigan in the jewelspun! Was so amazing hearing what you thought of all of these, bonus dk is one of my staples xxxxxx
Sorry girl, did you had say you are THROWING AWAY the yarn barf ?! B-but WHY ?! It's not tangled at all, it's rolled, you just have to take a minute or two to unroll it then wrap it around the skein... My goodness, yarn is too expensive for throwing away half of the skein...
I'm still a novice at crocheting but I love the last stitch. They all are very beautiful. I'm in Delaware and we have snow as well probably not as much but still. Thanks for sharing and happy New Year to you ❤😊
Thanks for your reviews. The Jewelspun has always caught my eye. When I go off my low buy mode, it'll be the first yarn I get. And yes, it'll be a substitute for Noro as I've got one of their pattern books and it it's woolfree so my daughter can wear it.
I think the Jewelspun looks absolutely stunning in-store and I bought a couple of balls. Unfortunately I found them they were not for me so I gave them away. They felt too "acrylic" for me and I did not like the halo which is odd as I love working with Lion Brand Landscapes! Your large square using the Jewelspun looks amazing - so I might need to give it another try!
I'm working on making the squares in the box you're using. I'm on #17 and I'm not thrilled with it. First, the print is SO small! I have to take a picture of each and enlarge them. Second, I'm not an expert by any means, but I had to give up on three so far (just couldn't figure out the instructions) and most had to be improvised. I'm using the cards as a time filler while making my temperature blanket. But back to your video, that yarn looks great! I especially love the last one. Thanks for being you. Totally enjoy your videos. 😊
Sirdar is one of my favourite manufacturers. I really liked their 100% cotton prints, but they discontinued the whole range. I've also used Hayfield to make a temperature blanket (moss stitch squares) and a rainbow scarf (hairpin lace).
Yarn barf. Wind it around the outside of the skein beginning with the attached end. When all the barf is wound, the working end will be free. Work from there and soon that part gets used up and you’ll be pulling from the center.
I often buy Hayfield Bonus. It holds up really well and washes well. I normally pay about £2.50 a ball. I have never heard it pronounced like that, though.😂
I followed the links to check out the yarns on Amazon Australia. The price made it a definite "no" but I did buy the authentic card box (after previously accidentally buying a knock-off version) based on how beautifully your squares turned out.
Love the reviews, I’m always looking for new yarn, not that I need more!! I couldn’t find the link for that granny square card deck, imma need that please!
Is this a yarn that would lend itself more to Knitting than crochet? I’ve used a couple of the Sirdar yarns and have never had the problem with the easy to break with your hands.
Happy New Year and wonderful review of the various yarns. I really love the card deck it is a great way to use up left over yarn. Your pattern/ tutorial additions are great. 😊

Okay, I’ve never seen anyone just rip the yarn-barf and toss it. 😮 😂
Me neither 😦
Toni - the way you just said no thank you to that yarn barf! Also... the nails! My mini is watching with me and said - "Toni's nails are ALWAYS on point!"
Literally the best, most honest yarn reviews here. ❤
I’m fairly new to crochet and been an avid watcher of the channel and I literally gasped when the idea of throwing away the yarn barf.

Dang just throwing away that yarn barf! Brutal 😂
She’s baaack!!! Love your honest reviews. 🫶🏼♥️
Omgosh Toni!!! I am loving this yarn. And I am actually knitting while binge watching the latest season of MAFS!!! You make going to love it!! ❤
I really like how the jewel spun came out. This review was fun to watch!
Hooray! The Yarn Snob is back! 🥳
Thank you for reviewing budget friendly yarns and introducing us to brands we may not be familiar with!
I love most of Sirdar yarns. The Jewelspun makes some beautiful shawls!!!
Funny, I usually never pull yarn wound that way from the center. I have a little basket I sit it in so when I unwind it from the outside the skein doesn't roll all over the place. Pulling it from the center is a recipe for disaster. But it looks like great yarn. I love the colors!
I made a granny square blanket with the jewelspun! Each and every square was a new treasure! No two were alike!
I love Sirdar's Country Classic - it's 50/50 wool/acrylic that's fab for wearables, it doesn't feel sweaty like acrylic can do, but also wears well over time with machine washing.
Love you, Toni! Thanks for the advice and have a wonderful New Year!!!

where i am sirdar jewespun ranges from £10-12!
Same. Its like $17 ....and that's (sadly) too expensive for a student like me.
Agree completely. In Europe, yarn is generally designed NOT to be centre pulled. I got some Jewelspun last week at John Lewis for £8. Okay, it's not cheap, but it does knit up so well.
Aussie here and we also say Sir-dar. I picked up some Sirdar merino, cashmere and silk blend at a thrift store and it is soooooo beautiful!
Thank you. I love this brand, but never knew the correct way to pronounce it.😅
I made myself a hexa-cardy with Jewelspun and it's an absolute dream to crochet with. The cardy washes really well on the wool setting. Thank you for your review, Toni x
I crocheted a hexagon cardigan in the orange and purple colour way of Jewelspun and I *always* get compliments when I wear it. Simply beautiful 😍
Definitely much cheaper here in Uk. As others have said, they are outside pulls. Most British brands end up with huge yarn barfs lol. Jewelspun is a gorgeous yarn. Great review

I have not heard of this yarn, but always interested in new brands to try. Thanks for the review!
Not all skeins are centre pull! If it doesn't work, just take the yarn from the outside, and problem solved 😂
I remember buying sirdar yarn 50 years ago I mostly used it for baby things. I hate yarn barf. And if it gets to much , snip and throw I have started using all my skeins of yarn from the outside. Thanks for the video. Always informatine
I’m glad you covered Jewel Spun, my favorite yarn store always HAS THIS IN STOCK; it’s truly one of the best!
I absolutely swear by Hayfield bonus in every weight it's gorgeous to create with 🥰
Hayfield spirit in the sundown colour way is also every UK yarn artist's favourite rainbow yarn
Wow love the stitch definition and many colors... thanks Yarn Snob😂❤

I am blocking a cardigan right now with the Jewelspun .Love it !
Oh you know I am SO ready for another yarn snob review 😍❤️
Toni, I love you, but hearing you say you throw away that much yarn for no reason hurt my soul 😂 Just pull from the outside and stop wasting so much yarn and money 😂
It’s been so long!!! Thank you Toni!!!!!
ALWAYS love ‘yarn snob’ reviews! Thank you so much! Happy New Year! 🍦🧡🥂🐍
Love it, Toni! The last one was so beautiful 😍….. gotta get me some of that
I love Sirdar yarns. Made an entire afghan withHayfield Bonus and a sweater with Jewelspun.
Beautiful yarns. Thank you for sharing. 😊
My favorite is the jewel spun yarn! Thanks for another great video!!!!!
This is a fun video! Thanks for your excellent reviews. I'm going to try the Jewel Spun and Stories. You're the bomb! Happy New Year!
I am so excited for this review!! Some my favourite amigurumi pieces were made with Sitar Stories!!
Great review!Jewelspun is my favorite! I have used it on a cardigan or two.
Sirdar jewelspun is very nice! I just wish they offered a similar yarn in solid neutrals to pair with it. They don’t even have a white option.
Love your yarn reviews. Happy New Year!
I love Sirdar yarns.
Never used them. It will be interesting to watch...
I live Sirdar Jewekspun. I’m doing a granny square blanket for DIL. The colors are unreal. I’m using four colors and they are beautiful!!
Totally enjoy your videos. 😊
I am really surprised this yarn is new to you. Been around a long time. The JewelSpun has been really popular lately.
I don’t think you linked the granny square card deck in the description. Sorry if I just overlooked it, but could you post it in the comments?
Sirdar is one of my favourite manufacturers. I really liked their 100% cotton prints, but they discontinued the whole range. I've also used Hayfield to make a temperature blanket (moss stitch squares) and a rainbow scarf (hairpin lace).
I've had some Jewelspun sittin' around - time to get it out! I think a nice ripple shawl will do....
My LYS carries this and I’ve been so curious! I guess I’ll have to go pick some up now!
I was glad to hear about Jewelspun since I am allergic to wool.
@ToniL i have those granny square deck of cards. What do you think of the cards?
I am just using jewelspun for your Tunisian crochet hat. Sirdar is a popular make in the UK
I used Jewelspun with your French Press Cardigan…. Love both!!
I wish I had met you before I moved out of Michigan. We would have had so much fun.
That last one is gorgeous!
Jewelspun is glorious
Jewelspunks definitely on the list to try out!
Is it just me, or are the links mentioned at 0:44 not in the description? Am I just missing them?
LOVE THE CARDS!!
I followed the links to check out the yarns on Amazon Australia. The price made it a definite "no" but I did buy the authentic card box (after previously accidentally buying a knock-off version) based on how beautifully your squares turned out.
YARN SNOB IS BACK. We win.
Sirdar Jewelspun is a personal favorite.
what colours did you review for stories? would love to use them in a blanket!
Love the reviews, I’m always looking for new yarn, not that I need more!! I couldn’t find the link for that granny square card deck, imma need that please!
I usually can't buy them because of the wool content but love to watch them all! 🐝
wool ? 100% acrylic didn't have any wool in it
@yazdhenab. I wrote that before the video played.
Jewel spun is my favourite 😍
Yesssssss let's gooooo
Sirdar balls are meant to be used from the outside. They are not meant to center pull without getting tangles. I use this yarn a lot... 😊
Amazon has the card deck by Claire Montgomerie, is this what you used?
Is this a yarn that would lend itself more to Knitting than crochet? I’ve used a couple of the Sirdar yarns and have never had the problem with the easy to break with your hands.
Rewind 100gm balls to stop yarn barf or use from the outside... Common sense!
Have you tried Stylecraft DK? Its glorious.
richtig cooles Video! Wenn ich das Geld hätte, würde ich mir gerne das letzte Garn bestellen
I have never had to throw away yarn barf. It should go ahead and come loose once you find the end.
I hope you are saving all that yarn barf to detangle later
As always, thanks.
😊😊😊
Hi!
Hell yeah!
I’m sweating, I’m still on a yarn buying ban but this is TEMPTING me
What?? We throw away the yarn barf?? Nah, I use every bit. I’ve never heard of that!!
Happy New Year and wonderful review of the various yarns. I really love the card deck it is a great way to use up left over yarn. Your pattern/ tutorial additions are great. 😊
Hello 👋 everyone
