Moreover, universities in Nigeria where she came from have been on strike for the past 8 months and the government does not seem to care. So being able to get the opportunity to advance your studies uninterrupted should be something to thank God for because that one opportunity many do not have in Nigeria currently

Do please be careful. The UK has a knife problem and random stabbings in broad day light are very common (the chances of random stabbings increase in the night aswell), especially in those quiet areas with no people on the street like where you were. And you being all alone on the street plus being a female puts you in more danger for kidnapping, assault or stabbing in those quiet areas. And don't be in the streets all alone at night either.
Hmm there’s obviously nothing wrong with being careful, but I wouldn’t say this is something you should be scared about. Overwhelmingly, stabbings are carried out by gang members on gang members. I’ve lived in rough areas of London and Manchester and walked through them countless times alone (I’m a girl), sometimes at weird hours of the night/morning and even while I was drunk - and nothing happened. So yes, be careful, but i think to be scared about your safety is not necessary.
