This is the first watch from a Chinese brand that I actually like! Great and fresh design. They should do more colors of this model, and make it a permanent line.
Received mine yesterday, my first fully original SM and fourth overall. I'm enjoying pretty much everything in this design and execution, including the red GMT, w/orange, blue, turquoise, cream, and white. I wouldn't change that one bit! If I were to suggest a tweak,' I'd say, make the hands just a tad bolder in width. Folks should know, your studio lights make the bezel color look brighter than how it presents in most normal iight, and I'm happy it's not that bright. Great review and footage! Thanks!
Great review, but I disagree on the red GMT hand. It picks up on the red GMT logo and is super functional to easily read the second time zone. Part of me wishes they would've made the minute track numerals 24 hour GMT numerals so you could have a third time zone, but ultimately they matched the orange seconds hand with the orange seconds numerals and it's a brilliantly executed design detail that I wouldn't have expected from an AE homage brand. This will certainly be my 1st San Martin purchase.
The design choices made on this watch are all very good ones. A third time zone can still be achieved by turning the bezel. But yeah only two time zones can be read at a time
I tried my luck with a Zodiac Super Sea Wolf twice (ZO9304 and ZO921), paid $800 and $1100 used. Both were returned for their misaligned dial markers. I thin San Martin nailed the style (in their own way). The color pop and ceramic bezels is simply a perfect combination. I'll be ordering this exact model to scratch the need the Zodiac failed me on.
To each their own, but the red and orange and teal and blue go really well together. Looks like they took inspiration from Farer Lander for that color combination. I think it looks beautiful.
I bought the original diver watch from San Martin with the internal bezel adjustment by another screw down crown. It only comes in black dial but I like the original design .
I bought this watch because I wanted to try a colorful dial before paying big money from a popular brand, and I'm not a fan of straight homages. I own several watches by Seiko, Hamilton, and Tudor and have owned others popular brands in the past, and I must say I'm very very impressed with this. The build quality, Seiko work horse movement, domed sapphire, 6 O'clock color matched date wheel, quick adjustment bracelet with screw down pins is crazy for $300. The one thing I want on this is AR coating to the crystal. With the ceramic bezel and no coating it's a glare bomb. But, for the money it's damn impressive.
I just received that one today and I love it! The supplied screwdriver does work though. It is a snug fit which keeps it in the screw head without buggering it up. It took me a bit to get it lined up right and I had to use a little pressure but it worked great.
You are right about the red color. I also think that gloss ceramic doesn’t suit this vintage look. They probably should go with a matte aluminium insert. It’s still great though I love it.
I think this one would resonate with me more worth a stainless steel bezel insert and seconds hand/gmt hand more in line with the ones on the black dial, like you mentioned
Good to see an original design from a chinese brand. Quality for the money has always been there, but not originality... i hope this finally starts a healthy trend of original watches, not just from San Martin.
Whilst the finishing is superb and the colour combo of the second and GMT hands is a good contrast what is really underwhelming is the size of the hour and minute hands. They just need to be slightly bigger. On the BOR bracelet or a leather strap it fits great but on the single pass San Martin nylon strap it sits too high on wrist due to the case back sitting lower than the slim case design with drilled lugs. Although it’s a slim case height overall anyone with a smaller than 7 inch wrist will find that it doesn’t look great. Avoid aftermarket Nato and single pass straps. Best on the BOR bracelet by far. Overall great value for money but it’s not perfect. Broader hands would definitely improve it.
Thank you for an insightful review of this great watch. I agree, the red/orange thing bothers me too. I think orange second and GMT hands with orange text would look fine. I must say, I now appreciate the black dial version more and may buy one. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers, but you have one more now 👍
@@HHWatchReviewsI ended up having a complete change of heart on this watch. Somehow this colour version works much better than the black dial and I've come around to the idea of the orange and red hands. In fact I have ordered this watch myself and I am quite surprised, my wife even liked the colours and design 😲
Completely agree with your colour suggestion. I went for the black one as the colourful one just didn’t seem right to me - I wasn’t clear quite why but your “correction” completely nails it. I really like the black one, great dimensions for me, love the BoR bracelet and the clasp, while big for smaller wrists, just works for me. But I have plenty of black watches and would have preferred you “corrected” colour one as, in my collection, it would have stood out from the crowd as a top choice for summer. Compliments though to San Martin for a v good watch at a good price point. And delivery for me (UK) was quick (one week).
good vid! I am new to your channel...I may disagree with you on this. I love the colors as is. It is vibrant and stands out...I felt you were trying to tone that down, even by putting it on a tan leather strap...to me this watch was made to stand out and not be like every boring skin diver out there. Still it is subjective and we all have our thoughts. Good video and camera shots...
Thank you! I also really like the punch of colour and understand that this watch was designed to stand out. I don’t like the use of red on the GMT hand but that doesn’t remove anything from the rest of the design.
hard disagree on color photoshops the way it is looks tropical fun like diving fishing windsurfing floribbean fun photoshops make it more boring and traditional - i reckon if you want that vibe buy the blue bb58 and be happy with more staid that said interesting to see though so thanks for the effort

I bought the blue one. It is fabulous & superbly well finished as usual from San Martin. Great job for being an original!!!

I got this last week and the screwdrover they provided fitted just fine.
Good to see they listened to feedback
Waiting to receive mine, looks like it’s going to be one of my favorite
Great colour mix!
you're right with the yellow GMT pointer!

I like this. San Martin is bringing it lately
Looks great with the sail cloth strap. Got mine coming soon , im excited.

More variety of colors like orange would be nice.
American cheese yellow dial with Doritos orange bezel insert and mint green detailing ❤️
You might be in luck, just saw a video clip on coming soon San Martin and from what I could tell that was one of them. Saw a lime green dial one to.
I actually love the red GMT hand. It looks too plain in your proposed 3-color configuration ( my opinion obviously). Great review!

There is AR coating. I think the glare is there because it’s a top hat sapphire crystal and the AR coating isn’t doing the best job.
@@HHWatchReviews Well I just noticed by Bezel is slightly off. Now I'm getting Seiko vibes. Lol
😅
Out of interest may I ask what you paid?

Congrats on the new watch. It’s good to hear the screwdriver fits now. They most likely changed it once they realized the original didn’t fit
@@HHWatchReviews I thought it didn’t fit at first, but a little extra effort paid off!
I’ve had my eye on this none too.
I had a feeling you'd be taking the first vid down. You're such a perfectionist! lol Great video as always.... again! 😂
Hehe 😄. I wasn’t home or else I would have taken it down earlier.
Thank you for the excellent review! I think the Dan Henry leather strap fits this SM perfectly! Is that the brown or natural tan in link you provided?
Good point, the red does not seem right. In the next version maybe SM can consider using orange for GMT and silver for seconds.
They’ve since released a few different colorways so maybe check out those ones
You are right about the red color. I also think that gloss ceramic doesn’t suit this vintage look. They probably should go with a matte aluminium insert. It’s still great though I love it.
It’s hard to design a watch that everyone will love. I think they still did a great job with this one

Like the watch not really feeling the bezel insert. What is the size of the bezel insert to check for options?

Just ordered mine. Love GMT! Why spend $8500 when they are never perfect. No watch except GPS keeps atomic time. Good review.

Thank you for the kind words. The black dial is a very good choice. A better all around watch that will fit different outfits

Seeing it in video it very much reminds me of Loriers’ design language.

All straps fits this watch ❤🎉
Does this watch fit bigger than the San Martin Pelagos homage?
No not really. It feels slimmer on the wrist
Este diseño si es oroygnal? No es copia de nungun otro?😮
Por lo que puedo decir, es un diseño original.

Original? Yeah, but it sure looks like a Scuba Dude with better lume.
Edit: I'm still getting one though 😅
The black and white is just another black and white watch in a sea of black and white watches. The other colourway is the star of the show.
kinda looks like a Vostok
The case design is a copy of a micro brand "Lorier" and their Neptune model
The bracelet has many rough edges that disturb on wrist. You don't talk about it.
Not true for mine. It wears 100% comfortably and is a joy to look at. Maybe they had some quality issues with the first ones they delivered.
Nah .. your color suggestions for the hands don't work. It looked anemic when you edited it, you should stick with watch review and not watch design
