This takes longer to explain and demonstrate than it does to do. I’ve got several students and friends on these drills and their 3 putts have disappeared
Thank you. I'm finding I only 3 putt when I'm faced with long 20+ feet downhill putts. I'm too timid with the first one. If it's uphill no problem, but when it's downhill I'm afraid to hit it. I'm going to practice these drills and the 3 to 1 ratio. 😊
This will help...I try to think about the distance and let the weight of the putter do the work and try not to think about "hitting" it but just the distance ratio and tempo and it feels like I'm hitting it softly, but it goes the distance. Takes a little practice but it works
Good tips, that practice green is by no means smooth. According to Shot Scope, I need to improve a lot on my make percentage of 4-6 feet putts. Any of your video's you can recommend?
Honu doesn’t have budget for sponsoring a pro to play their putter. And there’s a limited supply because they make them from recycled Bamboo flooring and each head is handcrafted by a surfboard craftsman. They want to sell as many as they can of course but haven’t made a big push. As an engineer I can certainly put you in touch with the engineer who developed the idea. Shoot me an email
@@mick19421 it’s also a lot of a feel thing. The important part is that you are smooth and consistent no matter the ratio. That sad I currently like to feel like 2:1 one on short ones like three or 4 feet. But again the key is a consistency of tempo so that you have a smooth stroke and don’t get jabby or stabby
@@mick19421 No I do use a metronome and my tempo is 66 Beats per minute currently. I use the combination of stroke length, tempo, and ratio to control speed. Yes if I am going back three and through 1 and changing the distance of the back and through and keeping the tempo, then the putter is moving faster sometimes than others...BUT THE TEMPO remains the same. I start the. stroke on one beat, strike the ball on the next no matter how long the stroke back and through is. But I don't have to think about how fast I am moving the putter...I just keep the rhythm. This is a complex and confusing thing...but when you get it all together it is simple and works well. Maybe I should do a video on stroke ratio, tempo and length. I think the confusing part is that ratio--(how far back and through), tempo--(the stroke rhythm or tick tock timing)--and stroke length, (Longer stroke for longer putts) feel like they are competing with each other, but they actually should be blended together. Should I do a video on this topic?)
yes a video on this would be very useful. I must admit since joining up I find your instruction very useful. Dont know why but I feel more confident already albeit very early days, at last I have hope that I can improve my putting, be interesting to see your anticipated video on using a putting carpet and drills. As weather over here (UK) is causing courses to be closed for last 3/4 days with tomorrow already cancelled, driving us all nuts.. Mick

Always look forward to your videos. Practice combined with warm up-love it. I'll do it for my round today !
Thanks Jack
Very useful insight that I will be using this week!! Thanks!
Great advice as I try to stop all 3 putts. Will make this my pre-round routine. Thanks!
I always look forward to your videos John. Combining practice with warm up-I'll try it before my round today !
Thank you John! The season here in Nova Scotia is just about to get underway, will put this into practice..Cheers from a far away subscriber..MikeR.
Thanks Mike. Enjoy the season and sink ‘em all!
Thanks for this I use the first 2 drills and not enough of the 3rd drill. I’m off to the practice green.

Yes that practice green is bumpy. The video from a week ago on putting it straight every time is a good one
I am intrigued by the Honu putter. I am an engineer, so the logic makes sense. Why do you think more professional golfers don’t use the Honu?

John, you may think this stupid , when you state 3 back 1 through, does that apply to 3/4 feet as well.

@@mick19421 and no, not stupid at all. That’s a good question.
So I assume you don’t subscribe to Tick Tock timing then.

The guy’s ratio was at best 1 to 1. Perception versus reality?
This concept was new to him. He was more than 1:1 and less than 3 but it is perception vs reality. Thing is it worked for him from the first try.
Great video!! Do you have a video that explains how to read the green? That seems to be difficult for me.
I have several. Give me until later today and I’ll send some links
