Shinji with Misato and Asuka as a family and kaji around to be there as a father figure to Shinji. Is my ideal ending. This is my favorite version.

I take it in this continuity, Kaji and Misato don’t rekindle anything. Plus he pointed a fucking gun at her. I mean wow. Out of character for him to do. But then again, these two never dated in this timeline. And she has no interest in him in this continuity. I mean this isn’t the only continuity. In the one where Misato is a school teacher, Kaji never dated her. But Misato only thought negatively of him. And in Rebuild Of Evangelion, neither of them ever rekindle anything. She shows more animosity towards him. Honestly, they aren’t compatible. Their personal problems are always clashing.
I mean, ai dont really know about this canon, but I could see him pulling a gun as a symbolic thing in the show, rather than as an actual threat. Especially since misato likely pointed a gun at him in the past of that canon. Kind of a "hey, look, Im not backing down on this. Theres no point in arguings so please just keep it civil." And also a "our line of work deals with the fate of millions, I think we deserve a little selfishness" (
@@DuelJ007 Yeah but that’s also reckless cuz that gun can misfire and accidentally kill one of them. Regardless, Misato thankfully never takes him back in this canon. Or even in the sequel (even though it is not a sequel)

So, having watched the original anime series, EoE, and the Rebuilds then watching Girlfriend of Steel, I can say that GoS did the best job in terms of portraying Shinji as a realistic, relatable character. Even in the OG series and EoE he was too passive and insufferable at critical moments where heroic decisions are needed to bring the arc to climax and end it properly, which never happened whatsoever. He was as one-dimensional as far as bad writing could get, and his passiveness was unnecessarily dragged on till the end of EoE, so yeah I fucking hate that movie (except for some good bits). In contrast, here we see Shinji develops his personality and individuality as a teenager through various engagements in his daily life, with the main plot revolving around the fact that he has a potential girlfriend. He thinks on his own, he makes decisions on his own, he stands up to himself and Mana, which is fucking great. I would say this ending is the best, he gets to move on with his life without significant loss, knowing Mana will be alright, and everyone else get to do the same thing. But more importantly, consider the release date of this game, it is clear that this seems to be the first time Hideaki Anno truly explored Shinji as a coming-of-age character of both sides: fucked-up past and hopeful future, childish mind and adopting responsibility, running away versus facing consequences... Later on, the Rebuilds address these problems effectively so there's less frustration in watching. But in my opinion, the original series + this game + EoE in one coherent package would have made Evangelion the best anime, maybe ever.
for a triple agent, kaji have suprisingly a lot of free time to spend hanging out with kids and taking care of his watermelon field
Gotta have hobbies to make yourself less suspicious.
I mean, all he has to do is get Misato to tell him whats up at work and that's all he needs lol. Then he can hang with the messed up teens
