The National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) was an armed separatist group formed in 1986 by Boro students who were dissatisfied with the limited autonomy granted to Boro areas in Assam. NDFB aimed to establish a sovereign Boroland for the Boro people, separate from India, to protect their identity, rights, and resources. This led to a decades-long armed struggle involving insurgency tactics, violence, and conflict with both the Indian government and other local communities in Assam.

NDFB was initially founded as the Boro Security Force (BdSF) by Ranjan Daimari, later rebranding as the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB). The primary objectives of the NDFB included:
1. Creation of a Sovereign Boroland: The group sought to carve out an independent state, Boroland, that would include areas inhabited by the Boro people in Assam and neighboring regions.
2. Protection of Boro Culture and Identity: NDFB claimed that Assamese cultural dominance and government neglect threatened Bodo language, culture, and economic opportunities.
3. Control over Local Resources: The group opposed what it saw as exploitation of local resources by the central and state governments, aiming to establish Boro control over natural and economic resources in the region.
