Great work! Smart move supporting the rear end of the desk. Making it load barring will help the desk last for years!
@@richardcoffin6511 thank you! We plan on keeping it for a long time
Great idea and build. I made this for my dad as a gift for Father’s Day and he literally cried. Thanks for the idea!
This is one of my favorite comments! I love to hear this Malcolm! Happy Father’s Day to him🤙🏼🤙🏼
I really like how you did this. We just redid the flooring upstairs and I’m building a large L shaped desk for the office upstairs. I’m using butcher block countertops for the desk top because I like how they look.
But I’m definitely stealing your idea for how you did the corner and ran braces on the backside. I’ve watched a bunch of other L shaped desk videos and none of them really had any support in the corners despite them standing on the desks. They are just held together by screws. The way you did yours, that outside back corner is load bearing and with the back supports, it’s a really, really sturdy desk. It’s held together by more than just screws. Is there a reason you didn’t just use a 4X4 on that back corner instead of putting the 2 2X4’s in an L shape? I like the look of how you did it but I thought a 4X4 would give more support.
I also like how you building the frame for your desktop. I hate the videos where the 2X4’s are standing up instead of laying down like you have it. It’s less noticeable because you only have an inch and a half reveal as opposed to 3 and a half inches. It looks cleaner with how you did it.
Thanks foe the inspiration!
I really love this comment! I love when people share the little details in my videos because then I know they were really engaged with it.
I chose to use the 2 2x4’s in the back corner because I thought making it an L shape would match the desk better.
Honestly I think it would look great either way.
Also my wife and I both stood on the desk to test how sturdy it was and he didn’t budge at all. I weigh over 200 pounds myself, so we definitely know that it can hold some weight
What a cool gift! Looks amazing 😍
Thank you! It was a lot of fun to make
Hello my friend,
You have created a decorative L table. It looks very stylish in LED lamps. Lastly, I made myself an L Desk similar to this one. I like the table you made. you did a very good job. I sincerely congratulate you. see you buddy. Take care of yourself.
Thank you very much
@@FixItFrench 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Load barring desk! Very nice work 👍🏼
Thank you! I had a lot of fun the building it
Excelente, sólo falta las medidas, muy buen trabajo
Gracias 👍🏼👍🏼
Great looking desk, keep it up.👍
Yes sir! Appreciate the love!
Hi im new here, I love the way you work. I was wondering about draws though! My son and I are gonna built me a work bench. I'm into ScrapBooking and taking photos. So I need shelves and draws. I'm turning my spare room into my work space. So will be following you to get ideas. My don it very creative as well. He has a full time job plus 3 kids that he have to the here n there. So in his spare time he helps me. This will be a new project for the both of us. I'm so ready. But any ideas how to arrange shelves on the wall? Thx Glenda from South Florida
Hey Glenda, I have a video I posted a few weeks ago on my “RUclips Shorts” that shows you how I build and install floating shelves very easy! Hope that helps, if you have any questions just let me know! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Do you what I was actually wanting to make one of this. It’s like bloody fate!!! Thank you for showing me this.
That’s awesome!!!!!!
I’ve been looking for a good/simple desk making video. This one is by far the best! Thank you!!
Thank you very much! It was as a lot of fun to make. Something I would recommend is to buy a roller for the paint. Doing 2-3 coats with a paint brush is time consuming! I hope your build goes great.
Let me know how it goes if you decide to build it👍🏼
That looks Awesome ! Great Job 😎
Thanks! 👍
Looks really good esthetically and very sturdy!
Hey!!!!! Thanks for the comment, it is very sturdy, and I made it with plywood so it would be really light as well. We are planning on adding a Hollywood style mirror to the top of it, so my wife can do her make up along with her photography at the same desk. 👍🏼
Hope everything is going well over at Milusions
@@FixItFrench I can't wait to see how the mirror works out. Its alot of decluttering here in my place. Trying to regain control of the house again lol
I saw that. Don’t worry I think we all need to do that a little bit lol
Thank you so much for sharing, I've been looking for a very well explained video, this helped me out tremendously.
Lastly where did you get the Led lights?
So glad I could help! This is one of my favorite builds I’ve done! Let me know how yours looks if you decide to do it👍🏼
Walmart for around $19.99
I love it , GREAT job 👏
Thank you, we use this desk everyday! 😃
I want to take this layout and make a shelf for the corner
I think that would be a great idea! Let me know how it goes👍🏼
How big is the already cut plywood that you painted brown in width and length and depth please
The sheet was 4x8 and it was 1/2inch material. I cut out a 2x6 foot section. Hope this helps 👍🏼
Great stuff. But how tall was the corner leg in the back? I know you said it was shorter, so did you drop it to 28" to achieve that flat top? Also, how many 2x4x8 boards did you use?
Yeah I just cut it a 2x4 short of 30in which is 28 1/2 with these new age 2x4’s.
I was able to build this with 6 10ft 2x4’s
Looks awesome! 👍🏾
Thank you! I had a lot of fun making it!
That’s so awesome I feel bad because it sounds like you made this video in 2019 and it’s already August 2021 when I’m watching this but I am really glad I found your channel and I have subscribed so thank you for sharing keep it up waiting for more
Thanks Scooter! I appreciate the kind words! I always remember comments like this! Working on 3 different videos right now! See you soon🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Well done 👍🏼
Thank you Adam! It was a lot of fun
You’re the best! I love you 😘
I love you too!
Nice job!
Really appreciate that! It was a lot of fun
porfavor podrias decir cuanto mide de ancho por largo el tablero de encima xfavor y la profundidad
4x8 sheet of plywood, 1/2 material. I cut out a 2x6 section. Hope this helps 👍🏼
Great work French! Our wives have the same name lol
Appreciate the love DuB! It was a ton of fun! Be careful man, them girls named Haylee are crazy ones lol
What type of plywood did you use and how thick? Thank you in advance
This specific build I used pine plywood, but I switched to oak plywood for the past few desks, and personally I think it is a lot nicer. The price really isn't that much different either
I am dumber than dirt when building anything, but I understood this video, and least I can tell someone what I want
and how,if they understand,I know I have the wrong person. Thanks
Glad I could help, I hope you get the desk you really want 👍🏼
That’s awesome
Thanks man! My wife is literally in there every day now. This project was definitely one of my favorites so far
buenas noches, cuantos pies mide de profundidad ?
4x8 sheet of plywood, 1/2 material. I cut out a 2x6 section. Hope this helps 👍🏼
Included are the measurements for the height, width, length and depth of this table
I don’t have the measurements anymore, but I do give dimensions in the video. Hope this helps🤙🏼🤙🏼
Awesome 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
Thank you
Nice
Thanks man! My wife uses it everyday. I’ve got a blueprint of a new one I am building for my office now
Do you have a word document to go step by step?
Legs
4 - 30in
4 - 2ft
X-pieces
4 - 36in Cut to fit
Top
2 - 5ft
1 - 4ft
1 - 2ft
Back legs (L shape)
2 - 28 1/2in
Bottom Support
1 - 5ft cut to fit
1 - 4ft cut to fit
Plywood
1 - 4x8ft
Sorry I don’t have any document that explains the build. Unfortunately I’m at work so I can’t really make you one, but this is the best I can do for now. Hope this helps👍🏼👍🏼
How much material did you use???
It was right around 60ft of 2 x 4, and one 4x8 sheet of 1/2inch plywood.
I bought 4 10ft 2x4’s, and 3 8ft 2x4’s. I had a little bit left over
Don’t you have a link to any plans?
Sorry I don’t make plans, or use them. I create an idea, and then draw a picture of it on paper. Then I just build it.
I explain almost all the sizes in the video! Maybe one of these days I’ll creat a website for all the builds I do
This guy is literally friends with my dad
That’s right!!! Your dad is one of the hardest workers I know 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thank you
I put the same lights in my entertainment center.
That’s awesome, I’m a big fan of these lights. Ive thought about getting some more, do they work well on your entertainment center?
@@FixItFrench They look just as good as your desk. I built a 3-cubby hole entertainment center with sliding barn doors and strung the lights across all 3 cubby holes. Some of the light shines out of the wire holes in the rear of the center which adds to the ambiance imo.
@@MrDizzle715 nice! My wife wants something very similar to what you described! I’m also interested in programming them into your speakers. I don’t know if you have seen those or not, but the light changes as the sound changes. A lot of people hook them up to their TV’s
Looks pretty cool
@@FixItFrench I have some in my car, lol. I don’t have an aftermarket sound system but they still go with the music.
@@MrDizzle715 very nice!!!!
Fantastic 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
How much wood did this take
It took about 52ft of 2x4's
Now it like $200 worth of wood
Lol it’s definitely more expensive now. The cost of lumber is starting to go back down, but it’s still not very cheap.
You could probably build this for $95-$110👍🏼
Great job!
Thank you
