Right? I don't even know how many stitches I got. Not because I was torn that badly, but because I was exhausted and didn't even think about it until almost a week after. Then again, that kind of "person" would almost certainly try to equate it to post-naughty tiredness or something equally stupid. I initially thought he was going to say that women only love their babies because of the oxytocin. Guess I expected too much 😅
Cutting your hair isn't a personality trait, and it isn't always a sign of character growth. But if your character cuts her hair real short, DON'T IMMEDIATELY UNDO IT IN THE NEXT SCENE *scowls at Fairy Tail*
Well, yeah, but no. In writing, the theme of cutting your hair is often synonymous with getting through hard times &/or becoming a new person. Undoing that in the next scene is dumb, yeah, but this is actually a pretty common trope in writing
In japan(and also in many other countries as well), cutting your hair(specially woman) means starting a new life and ending your old one, it actually has to do with culture.

I get where you're coming from, but I think this would end up creating a story that ignores gender completely, which isn't necessarily ideal. A person's gender legitimately does change the way people treat them and how they experience the world and acting as though that doesn't matter is kind of brushing aside the potential for genuinely interesting conversations about gender.
Sometimes I worry about how terribly I'm writing my female characters. then I glance at this subreddit and remember that the bar is so low I can't possibly bring it down any further.

the thing about Middle Earth Dwarven women looking like men wasn't a joke. Tolkien made his Dwarves have little to no sexual dimorphism, meaning the men and women look almost the same. I really like that they took this to heart in the Online game set in Middle Earth, where you can't select a gender for Dwarves, and some Dwarven NPCs are referred to with she/her pronouns and have a slightly higher voice ^^ This also raises a lot of questions, such as, do Dwarves even have a concept of hetero/homo sexual, or do they just pair up with whoever and sometimes that makes babies?
@@1.calm.chaos1 That's true of course, but it's interesting to see if they'd care. Of course, Tolkien didn't go into that much depth, but with Humans, the genitalia often matter less than the secondary sex characteristics ^.^

While the girl wrote the most cringe, overly sexualized, belittling, and misandrist stuff about any male character possible. The worst part is after either one of them would read No one in the group pointed this out and the two of them congratulated each other and spent like fifteen minutes giving each other tips... You say they were actually published writers??? As in mainstream media or self-publishing? On further reflection, that sounds like part of an enemies to lovers romance plot. The bit where they are constantly sniping at each other and giving gross exaggerations of the other's negative behavior in the past yet bonding over this shared experience.

How to make a good female character: 1: Make a character. 2: Make them female. 3: Make slight changes to personality traits that are defined by a person's life experiences and how they were treated by others.
4: learn how to write good female characters without having to write them as male first. Because if you can’t write about a single well written woman character, you were never a good writer.

Sir Terry Pratchets Discworld goes into that topic several times over the whole series. Traditional Dwarves use male pronouns and look the same. There are important anatomical differences, but traditional dwarven women are not supposed to show them. Usually dwarven courting centers around trying to politely figure out the gender of the other without being so crass as to actually ask a direct question. Later in the series, businesses appear that cater to the emerging tastes of dwarven women with products like delicatly engraved Battleaxes suitable to wear with your evening dress or clothing made from micro-chainmail. Hygenic, stylish and does not chafe!

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this logic applies to anciant greece? Men in statues were represented with a small pp because it was linked to their humility, whereas having a big pp was a sign of vanity and selfishness
@@thornwalker8970 It's not like all ancient artists had an agreement on what's the correct interpretation of pp size. Since people back then were just as childish as today artists would simply make the pp small or hide it behind something to make it less distracting. Art itself was a business so if someone requested his statue to have a big pp they'd do it, otherwise they'd just keep it out of focus. So in a way it's linked to the commissioner's ego, but there probably was a few artists who would give any statue big pp because they like it. Can't generalize something like that for all of ancient greece.
18:05 I imagined the current format of the story turning to a gmod like format where the female character got ragdolled down a comically long staircase.
6:03 The way I personally like to think about Dwarves is that both sexes have facial hair, but it works differently due to sexual dimorphism. I always pictured that Female Dwarves would have facial hair more akin to a human male, but male dwarves would just have absolutely crazy facial hair. This also opens up the idea of Dwarven women getting special accessories for their facial hair, or maybe they even dye it crazy colors.
Pratchett wrote that no one - including dwarves - could tell a female dwarf from a male dwarf, save when nude. And since naughties only happen after marriage, that led to some awkward honeymoons =)

I believe that original purpose for bras was to help with weight distribution that women with big breasts typically had issues with , strained backs and sagging breasts sound like a real headache to deal with I imagine. Really sucks when you add the harrasment on top of that. That being said it's rather odd seeing a rejection of bras by some women
@@necrosteel5013 There’s an easy answer to that. The heavier your breasts, the more weight the bra has to hold. That’s why the bra has to sit somewhat tight to be able to actually hold that weight. This in turn causes the wire or fabric under the breasts to dig into the ribcage and the straps to dig into the shoulders. Sweating or exercising or even just wearing a bra for an extended period of time can then cause shoulder and neck tightness, and cause the skin to bruise or become sore to the point of actual open wounds.
@@jimpickens5936 in short it's your screwed if you do and screwed if you don't... @@necrosteel5013 without going too far into tmi land, and keeping in mind this is only my experience, finding a properly sized and fitted bra gets very difficult and bloody expensive very quickly once outside of the standard 36-40 b-ddd cup (I've heard smaller ones are also a nightmare, but given I was already past a ddd in high-school, I can't speak specifically to that). The US also has random sizes tossed in the mix which rarely increase the cup but increase the band spacing in the back (dddd is one, I'm not sure if ddd is as well), making it hard to tell if the cup or band is the issue, not to mention consistency within brands tends to be pretty rare (specific cut/style within a brand, not between cuts since those are intentionally different). Add in a dollop of $70-$90 a piece (again, my experience the cost to find ones that are my size/mostly work for me) to something which digs in, or gapes, or causes bruises/lacerations, yeah, that puppy is coming off soon as I don't have to be near people. But let me say, I get enough folks talking to my chest with both a bra and tank working to minimize it, I'm certainly not going to wander around without both (not to mention, ow). There are a couple good resources out there that get into how to properly size/fit, and how to tell if a specific bra is the right size/fit, but gd is it a lengthy and expensive process sometimes, and sometimes bras suck. Doesnt really solve the problem totally, I mean, someone who really sucks at writing women probably sucks at making men too. If they make women incredibly sexualized then thats to please their fantazies trough the protagonist, who is what they wish they were
Equal does not mean identical. Women are different from men, at the very least through being treated differently our entire lives. Denying that truth is similar to 'not seeing colour.' Most people are not in fact secretly white cis-het neurotypical middle to upper class christian men on the inside. And treating us as if we are is actually a form of marginalisation.
Many many years ago, my mother, exhausted from raising two toddlers, went to her doctor complaining of fatigue. “No problem,” he said, “we have these wonderful new pills that will make you fly through your daily chores.” A month later, she went back to complain that although she now had tons of energy, she couldn’t sleep at night. “No problem,” he said, “we have these wonderful new pills that will make you fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow.” My mother, God bless her, said “this makes no sense, I’m just back where I started,” and ditched both prescriptions. Which is how my mother didn’t get on the upper/downer treadmill so many women of the era did.

Okay, but the maternity corsets are valid. The ad looks like it’s from the beginning of the 1900‘s, when corsets still were regularly worn. Not only do they provide great support, they can also give the desired silhouette (silhouette, not size) of the time. Maternity corsets had the special perk that they were adjustable at the sides, as can also be seen in the ad. That way the corset could conform to the size of the belly, while still giving great support and thus for example reduce back pain.
Also, despite what modern media created for the male gaze would have us believe, corsets weren't made to be torture devices. They were basically just a bra that supported you from below instead of above.
As someone with chronic back pain, I've been in love with the idea of corsets the moment I figured out that Hollywood has been feeding me lies for years.

But that world had been out for months without anyone saying anything.
Interesting thing about male vs female anatomy: The male perineum (space between the testicles and anus) is about twice as long on average as the female perineum (in her case, the space between the vagina/ end of the labia and the anus). Another fun fact: The perineum is an erogenous zone in both sexes, but it seems only gay males tend to find out about this. (using 'male' and 'female' here to indicate I'm talking about sex not gender). The average length of the female perineum is about 3.90cm or about 1.53" - the studies that cause humanity to know this seem to have been courtesy of the doctors who need to sew that sh*t back together after it rips (or nowadays, is cut by doctors) during childbirth if the baby's head is too big. From this perspective, having a longer perineum is better for the female, as you don't want to rip/cut too far. Still, it seems evolution has been inconsiderate both of the growth of the human head over time, and of the evolutionary dead end who gets so grossed out thinking about it that he considers himself the clever one for remaining celibate all his life.

Clone wars did some episodes on how Yoda goes through a number of tests if he is strong (or goodhearted?) enough. If that's the case, that a strong force user can somehow have a part of themselves outlive death, than an traumatic event involving the force could impact other living beings. I read a theory somewhere that Padmé did not actually die of a broken heart. Rather, Darth Sidious used the power to manipulate life and death (which he learned from Darth Plagueis the Wise) to transfer Padmé's vitality to Darth Vader. This is suggested by the way those scenes unfold side-by-side and how Padmé's labored breathing fades to silence as Vader's rises to its iconic hissing cadence. It also incorporates this ability, which Sidious introduced earlier in the film, in a more concrete way than merely serving as a motivator for Anakin's fall to the dark side.

How to write a good female character:
1) write good character without determining their gender
2) make them female
Ah, the Alien approach
Honestly, that is pretty much the deal with every character, regardless of race or gender.
*Laughs in can't write a good character regardless!*
By the gods. A fool-proof strategy. How can this be?

I really like that they took this to heart in the Online game set in Middle Earth, where you can't select a gender for Dwarves, and some Dwarven NPCs are referred to with she/her pronouns and have a slightly higher voice ^^
This also raises a lot of questions, such as, do Dwarves even have a concept of hetero/homo sexual, or do they just pair up with whoever and sometimes that makes babies?
Well I mean, they would still be able to tell apart some genitalia, don't they?
@@1.calm.chaos1 That's true of course, but it's interesting to see if they'd care.

About the dwarfs, it's no joke. In Tolkien (and D&D) female dwarves have beards.
Its not impossible in humans, the woman just needs a bit more testosterone and most would grow a beard lol
And that's why Warhammer has the best dwarves.
With D&D my head cannon is that a lot of races don't have much sexual dimorphism.
Actually the line was a dig at CS Lewis' CoN series where the dwarves did spring up from the ground.

@@thornwalker8970 It's not like all ancient artists had an agreement on what's the correct interpretation of pp size. Since people back then were just as childish as today artists would simply make the pp small or hide it behind something to make it less distracting. Thanks for this, nice to know there are still folks out there that remember there's a person behind the rack
A lose lose situation
I guess there are breast reduction surgery and a lot of exercise can actually lessen the size of a bust to an extent but other than those I can't think of anything else that might solve that issue.
Necessary evil though for some of us.

The trick is.... don't do anything special. You just treat them like human beings, give them realistic motivations and see how they develop in the environment they are thrown in.
And for god's sake... dont have your female NPC bang the first dude who waggles an eyebrow in her direction.
Unless you have a guy NPC that bangs the first girl who wiggles an eyebrow in his direction. Equality.
@@definitelynotanscp7273 I do have a male NPC in my collection along those lines yes.
I have all sorts in my 'army' ready to go :)
@@BalimaarTheBassFish mans a legend

3:14 if y'all think women (and other people with uteruses) shouldn't take hormonal contraceptives, how about you egoistic dudes take responsibility for contraception? You can wear condoms. You can get a vasectomy if you wanna make sure and don't plan on kids soon.
And if you *do* plan on having kids: find a partner who WANTS kids with you.

Maternity corsets were designed to offer support in an era that bras weren't a thing yet, while specifically built to NOT squeeze the baby. Were they great? No. Were they about shaping the baby? No. They are the precursor to modern maternity clothes
No, bonzai babies better be a thing or im making it a thing
Right I have to imagine that they also had some support of the belly like the belly bands we have now. If I could find a belly band and bra combo I'd be inclined to try it

That's a lot of words for "girls are icky" and "I'm attracted to men actually"

Or he hella gay and as no idea.

She had long untamed, yet well styled hair. Dark eyes, that pierced into your soul, set in an angled face and light skin. She wore a teal-colored short sleeved shirt. She was sitting on the couch, with a nearly empty wine glass
Beautiful description, but that top is khaki green. Not teal

So, that is from a webtoon called "the beauty and the beast" (it is weird, not questioning that) and the people there are like hybrids between humans and some sort of animal or reptile. They are much more focused on their instincts then on feelings. That girl somehow ended up their and because she is seen as extremely beautiful every male character wants kids with her.
So I think that is actually intended bad women anatomy, but I could be wrong
Yeah but remember when the fl drew freckles on herself and everyone suddenly thought she was ugly?😭

8:29 I KNOW THAT COMIC!! Oh god, that's THE WORST comic in existence. It's literally every toxic romance trope shoved into a reverse harem. The main 'love interests' try and assault the MC multiple times. Also, MC's boobs change sizes in every panel. Ironically, that's her only consistent character trait.
He's wearing a necktie AND a bowtie. The Click has ascended to a new level of fancy! ❤
14:02 this is why I like the theory that either Anakin or Palpatine took Padme's life force to keep Anakin alive
I just mentioned this in response to another comment. It fits so well that it's my accepted head canon
Hear me out: I think the dwarf design would actually look cool and that they have another love language is such an interesting concept. They kinda had a point. Plus, who said that dwarfs have to have exact human bodies?
6:38 my earbuds died at this moment because of the sheer amount of bullshit from that post
I always assumed padme died in childbirth, like stress is a factor in a birth going wrong, and the whole deal with anakin gave her so much stress when she was in the end of the pregnancy that it caused her to have complications at birth and die during it
I thought it was because her organs were compressing into a small cube from Anakin's anger fueled force choke
That makes so much more sense than dying from sadness
@@rory0233I'm not at all an expert in the lore around the force... But the explanation I came up with for myself is the following: Since force users can, if they are strong enough, contact living people after their death. Clone wars did some episodes on how Yoda goes through a number of tests if he is strong (or goodhearted?) enough.
If that's the case, that a strong force user can somehow have a part of themselves outlive death, than an traumatic event involving the force could impact other living beings.
She was attacked by the force and seen a fall to the dark side with her own eyes.
I guess even non froce users could be affected by the disturbance that creates.
Also, I don't know if in a world where the force exists, depression and loosing the will to live could manifest in death even if the individual is not an active force user. As far as I know all living creatures have a bit of force in them.
I'm terribly sorry if I miss out on some terminology or some facts. That's just what I concluded after seeing the frost six movies and a portion of clone wars (Yoda already passed said tasks that probed if he would be able to create his 'force ghost' to contact people after his death'
Broken heart syndrome is also a thing.
a tie AN a bowtie?? click, this is too much fancy for one man to hold-!

What annoyed me about Padme's death is it was mentioned that Leia remembered her mother as beautiful and kind, but sad. Like they didn't remember their own cannon.
Flip the Catholic with Content Creator lol.
"I'm a Karen who throws a tantrum like a 5 year old and my children had to apologize to the worker for me, tells my children they're going to hell if they don't follow arbitrary rules and tell them they must have grandchildren for me because that's part of arbitrary rules".
I wonder why I don't visit, call or care about you anymore at your old age...

14:07 there is a theory that she died because Palpatine was draining her life force to give it to Anakin so he would survive
2:06 To be fair, some of us develop that early. Pray for us.
I found the sudden intermission about valuing yourself very refreshing and even more wholesome than usual in comparison to the rest of the content.
As a sidenote, decomposing manure is actually very beneficial for nature as it returns important nutrients to the soil, so perhaps these individuals would be more like plastic... gets worse the longer they're allowed to lie around and litter.
24:27 (Yes I am a female)
She had sweet, licorice black hair that fell messily around her shoulders. Fair skin brought out her kind brown eyes. Her live green shirt complimented her skin, despite the low light. She gently sipped her glass of wine, watching from across the room.
I'm just saying in the rigth kinda story/setting it could make sense to give a character (1 character, male or female) a boob window.
Just think about what that says about a character.
They are so confident in their ability/arogent that they decided to wear armor with a giant stab me hole and are still alive somehow.

17:34 As a blonde named Angela, this emotionally scarred me 💀
I feel sorry for you Angela, my friend.
Imagine walking down the street and some dude in a cowboy costume saying “PUT YOUR GOZANGAS BEHIND YOU”
