Real honest to God, AM radio from New York City in 1974… Complete with commercials. Then you have master broadcaster and humorist. Jean Shepherd weaving his web of gold in front of a microphone alone in the studio. Daily. ‘A Christmas Story’ was synthesized from a number of his short stories. Happily, he Narrarated the movie playing a grown-up version of the protagonist who is basically himself anyway. Maybe the best storyteller of the last hundred years. And thanks dad, for turning me onto him back in the late 70s.
Thank You! I used to “sneak” into my Moms bed, and listen to this American Classic! Then, many decades later I listened to Art Bell...Now Heather Wade at “midnight in the desert” aka. Dark Matter, the show Art Bell gave to her....the story continues
Art Bell was pretty good, but nothing like Shep. More like Long John Nebel who followed Shep on WOR every night. Dave is trying hard on Midnight, though.
Bill Hicks spoke in glowing terms of "political impersonator" Randy Credico and a routine by this name. Wondering if Credico's performance was based on this?
A humorist trying make sense of Relative Morality in the "Me Decade" of the 1970's by explaining Nixon's Presidential Pardon? Wow! (No wonder the "Presentism Decade" of the 1980's saw Jean Shepherd move back into the old stories of his past rather than be topical of the times!)
He injected a lot of philosophy in his discussions. It was appropriate to discuss nixon at this time as it was what a lot of the world was examining. I think it was interesting to listen to this for the first time only now and wonder what he would think of this past event today.

I wonder if Shep and Hunter S. Thompson ever met, and what they thought of each other if they did...
Very good question! I don't recall Shep ever mentioning HST. Perhaps someone else might.
Henry just joined him
Ha, and people claim he wasn't political...
Shep was a one of kind master of American satire
Ah, the days of my youth!
FLICK LIVES!
Great stuff
Annoying use of echo...someone should have told him to cool it.

daft c he was
I can only imagine what Shep would say about the current criminal con man residing in The White House.
Exactly! I left the US when Nixon was electred. Trump proves I was right 50 years later. What we need is more humour!
Oh, right. There aren't any criminals in the people you support.
@@rudolphguarnacci197 Probably not the criminally insane anyway.

Then why don't you leave like Barry Bogart did? He must've gone to England.
Yeah, because Bidet is doing such a bang up job, sheesh, #TDS is REAL!
