I had the Horobo shuttle. It was fun to fly.It was impressive to see when you open the box and see it all assembled.I even had that same century 12 radio.I used it for my Bridi UFO pattern plane. My parents got me that radio as a graduation present.I graduated in 1984.Those were the good old days.No all my planes are electric powered.
Right on. I hated to lose this heli in the fire in 2016, but now have several Shuttles, that folks sent me. Not all my helis are nitro. LOL. Check out our latest video link below to see. Joe Bridi and I were friends when I ran the IRCS The international Radio control service center and repaired Joe's newly acquired Pro Line Radio line. That didn't last long. Thanks and happy flying. ruclips.net/video/826JrBC9J1w/видео.html
Der Dave, that video took me back to the good-old-days of the Dump Masters as I flew up the road backwards at 65mph. I never imagined the complexity, because you made it look so easy, until you said: "I haven't got it and we all hit the deck...! I am so proud to see your tenacity and grit, you never quit, and it seems just like yesterday when you flew those gas choppers of 29-plus years ago. It's humbling and inspiring to see how you worked out all of the bugs and fixed the flaws in the old Stork, and made that proud bird fly and perform its tricks. Only an aero master could do what you did and I salute you for sharing your inspired video. Semper Fi, you never quit! Rkt-Man
Bud Parriott Thanks kindly Bud. Those were surely the days of learning curves, that's for sure. I appreciate your comments and wish you the best too. Semper Fi
I love watching these classic helis come to life. We had a guy bring a hirobo heli to the field the other day, it took us all day to get it set up. Finaly that afternoon we got it to take off and fly. Im glad we had a more experianced heli guy there. That heli taught me alot.
Kerry Snider Wow. Great story. Yes in the days before computer radios, it was more challenging Glad you got yours going. Thanks for the comments and Happy flying.
I've watched hundreds of your videos and for me this was one of if not the best. It humbles me too see the care and attention, fault diagnosis and debuging/tuning you do. I get upset when my Blade SR cp gets a bit tail waggy and my skills as a heli pilot cannot cope. You sir are an inspiration to hard work and experience. Respect. Fab video and unquestionable skills, just epic. Thank you for this.
Craig McVeigh I Thank you very kindly for your comments Craig. I am pleased you like my work ethic. I am also the one humbled by your words! Thank you again.
Thank you so much Mr. Herbert for sharing this video. All the respect you deserve, I give to you. This video is a classic. You took us back in time in a special way. You Sir are a real hobbyist. Thank you again and don't stop making videos!
I loved it!! I am in my late 50's and remember these gassers at the flying field. You are my hero keep up the awesome work you do and thanks for the memories.
great job mr herbert helis have come along way nice to c someone restoring something that was on the market when i was 7 and then could only dream, now its reality. thumbs dave!
What a trip down memory lane! Great work! I had a 40 size Dubro back in the mid 70's. Man it was so tedious and every time you touched it you had to go through the entire setup procedure again! We are so lucky today!
Very Well Done, Great Video.....and THANKS to Frank, We get to see a great old bird flying.....There was No RUclips when this bird was made..... Great Piloting for sure.... NOTHING REMOTELY BORING IN THIS VIDEO...Well Done All Around Guys....again, Thanks Frank!
GasserGlass Thanks so very much. Those are very kind words and I appreciate it. Your right about NO YT. Heck we were lucky to have Green LED's. LOL. Thanks again.
Thanks Dave, that brought back some memories. The new heli's sure do fly a lot better, but that old beast shows how good of a mechanic and pilot you really are. I know i couldn't get that thing flight worthy, much less fly it, kudos to you ol chap
I'm an RC helicopter guy so I watched this entire vid. Excellent work and video documenting of it all. It looks like the seller sold it to the right guy. I would have pissed my pants if I seen one of these helicopters actually fly like that back in good old 1987 when I was an elementary school kid.
Rotormatic I forgot to mention that I'm shocked the original designers of this helicopter didn't notice that their tail boom wasn't long enough to give enough clearance between the main rotor and the tail rotor! The original designers must be wanting people to buy parts with crash after crash with a rotor-to-rotor strike? :-(
civicex5speed Haaha. Actually my nerves are getting closer to steel wool at this age, but when I start a project, I cant sleep if I cant get it to work. Thanks kindly for your comments..
Mr. Herbert, you mentioned that you were very well versed with nitro engines. I find I struggle with them. It would be great to see a video on them! Thank you for everything you do for this hobby. I'm sure we all look forward to learn more from you!
Amazing video Dave and what a heli!! The process you went through to get her flying again was just marvellous and the problem solving/diagnosing was spot on.we are all spoiled now with pre-built helicopters and modern electronics these days that's for sure.great video thanks for sharing your experience with all of us :) kind regards from here in England,Jason
UK RC heli Hi Jason and thanks very kindly for your comments. I really appreciate that. I always try to figure stuff out and don't sleep well till I do. Thanks for words like these, which give me encouragement to never give up. Thanks again,
Super video mr. Herbert! This is what I subbed for (years ago) :D Thanks for the history lesson Again and good entertainment offcourse :) Congrats on getting her airworthy :D Cheers and have a great weekend
***** You're welcome offcourse sir :) My favrite series so far was the one about the Pitts Biplane.. That was gorgeous :) Do you still fly that one?? Cheers and thanks
Very nice. It is cool when we are debugging and finally find the issue. Who could imagine those littke cracks in the servor connector could make such problem. Congrats. I like your videos a lot.
Ed Longs Thank you very much. I keep thinking about those cracks too. It could have slipped in the air on any one of those 3 servos, and I would never had known why it crashed. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
Very educational and a delight to watch how things went with this heli. Had to laugh when you said that parts are more than scarce and then made your own tail rotors ! less of a problem with that 'get it done' attitude ! :)
What a great story!! Thanks for telling it, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video! You have a fantastic youtube channel, congratulations. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
Great job on getting that old school nitro helicopter back in the air again Dave quick question I notice your flying by a cemetery has anyone who works ever complained about you flying there?
I'm an intermediate pilot but a vintage buff. I just got my cricket hovering after a few years of sporadic restoration activity with so many other projects. Im happy just to hover it for now and have an operational example. I say like you said, not going to go crazy, parts are too hard to get, though the cricket has more aftermarket available. So, great vid, loved watching it as I have a mint, assembled but never set up and run GMP Legend on the shelf (and an operational running but not wrung out GMP Rebel), but that's another story...
Dave Looks like you Really know what your doing & was a very Interesting & Fun Video ! Going To send this To a friend & his Name is Dave also ! Thanks Dave & Jeff for the Video ! Dave B.
BOKI797 It all came from many years of crashing and fixing, and hopefully learning what not to do. :-) I appreciate your comments and thank you kindly.
Wow. That really took some know how. Cutting down the blades. No beginner would have thought of that. I would have just done it all by the instructions to the letter and when it crashed assumed it was something i put together wrong
***** Yes, he was really into R.C. back in the 70's and 80's, lot's of his old planes and copters are hanging from the ceiling in the garage. some are even rotting away because of the fabric material on them.
William Drabble They fly Pretty much the same, as I still have a 1979 American RC Mantis, Kyosho, and a Shuttle, all with slipping tail belts. Newer ones are serrated, so they don't slip so much, and work better than shafts. Thanks for the comments.
Very cool helicopter... The older I get the not so old things made in the later 80s seem, lol... By the way Dave, I have to say, you're looking fit,,, it's not always easy as time does march on... Take care! :o) O,,,
Great video Dave. I love older model helicopter and airplanes I would really like to see you convert your old Kraft signature series transmitter to 2.4 I have a lot of ek logictrol transmitters that I still fly with and would like also to convert them to 2.4 please post a video when you get time Jon
Jon Mcalexander I thought about it before and appreciate your thoughts. I built my own Kraft Sig, and want to keep it stock. I would simply make a 2.4 module to plug in place of the stock one. I'll chew on it. Thanks for the suggestion and coments.
I have one of these dad had partially completed- along with 8 or so other completed to NIB birds... what did ya give for the stork if I may be so nosey?
Pretty cool heli! Ive seen a few of these on ebay but the price and the skills to fly it exceed what i have lol i want a scale looking looking heli but it bothers me that everything is so small now i want a bigger size. I have a honey bee king 2 but as much as ive tried i cant get it to fly! Great video tho man
Tyson Evans Thanks kindly. I can tell you one thing, the bigger they are, the better they handle the wind, are easier to see, are easier to fly and....... the bigger the fall! Good luck and never give up.
***** Yes the auto rotation clutch does not turn the tail rotor when it is coasting, so the tail rotor stops. You don't need a tail rotor when the engine quits, as there is no torque and autorotations and airplane type landings are easier, hence many of my Tailrotorless heli Videos. Good Eye and Good Question. Thanks for commenting.
I have a Hirobo shuttle zx. Never been flown. I bought it years ago from a friend. I would like to see it fly but I don't know how to fly helicopters. enya 35 engine on it with gyro but no radio. I would buy one if someone would fly it.

Beautiful heli!
It was for sure. I was sad to lose it in the fire, a year after I made this video. Thanks.

Very impressive. This really takes patients, skill, knowledge and engineering to make it a success. Well done Mr Herbert! Oh and nerves of steel.

Great job Dave love seeing these vintage aircraft fly again
Jim Hunt Thank you Jim. If was fun for me too.
You've still got it Dave! That's quite a project you knocked out there.
Loved your history lesson. Really liked the work you put into that heli
