- In our final instalment with Barry Ferguson, the Scotland international takes us through the recovery from Paul Le Guen's departure with Walter Smith returning as Manager and bringing success back to the club.
That success includes Rangers run to the UEFA Cup Final in 2008 which Barry looks back fondly on despite the regret of the team not doing themselves justice in the end.
The conversation moves on to the infamous Scotland camp under George Burley, labeled 'Boozegate' which led to the end of Barry's Scotland and ultimately Rangers career. He talks openly and frank to Si about his perspective on the situation and what exactly happened over those few days.
The midfielder wraps up our chat by looking back on his time with Birmingham where he clinched a League Cup winners medal versus Arsenal as well as discussing his plans to get into coaching following his stint with lower league, Clyde.
It's interesting to hear Barry struggled to get a game for Rangers/Scotland due to "coaches" not thinking he was big enough at 15-16 years old. Twenty years down the line and the same mentality is still rife "he's too small to make it" I wonder how many smaller players of the same quality as Barry Ferguson we've lost as a country at around 15-16 years old because they aren't seen as being big enough or bulky enough. Even Gordon Strachans ridiculous comments about genetics highlight just how bad it is in this country. For me this sort of attitude is why we are where we are as a country and until we change our way of thinking we won't progress.
Quality interview!
great open, relaxed, insightful & conversational interview. Much better than some of the dross we get on BBC and BT Sport
All respect as a Celtic man you were open an honest different class.
Love these interview si . The players seem to answer more in depth and honest because he's a player and not a journalist looking for something to twist.

Great again Si , really been enjoying this , and i keep spreading the word. BF what a player even now i still judge Rangers players on the standard he set , the way he always played with the head up not having to look at his feet , very much a Rangers Legend

I find it crazy that clubs teach their young players to speak to the media. To watch out for sneaky questions. The media shouldn't be trying to trip up young players at press conferences. I know that a slip of the tongue will sell more papers,, but c'mon man, give the boys a chance.💙
Brilliant player
