Thank you for this, Tim. We appreciate your excellent work and creative approach to exploring the 3rd Wave. Please keep the synth as long as you need. Much respect to you!
Always good to see real-world examples 👍. Most synth presets and many patch bundles sound all very good in isolation but are frequently unusable because they won't fit in a mix.
I visited Sweetwater this past June and got to play many synths including this one. 3rd Wave definitely stood out from most of the pack. Hydra Deluxe was also a treat. I own the original Hydra and will upgrade eventually to the Deluxe. The 3rd Wave was so rich and full. All the synths were going through these little Roland cubes so A/B synths was consistent. It was one of those moments where you hear it and you just know. However, $5000 is not justifiable at the moment! Thank goodness the Hydra is so versatile. I use the Blofeld as well and when played together via midi they are amazing. To warm it up even more, I mix in the DeepMind. Thank you midi patchbays and DAWs. Keep up the great work, Tim. You are a treasure to the synth community. :)
The Hydrasynth is a fantastic sounding synth. I’ve just come from playing the Deluxe and the Waldorf Iridium and the Hydrasynth sounds way warmer imo. Will definitely keep it. Not sure about Iridium. Would love 3rd Wave but €5699 here in Europe! Ouch.🤕
This is an amazing synth from an amazing company. Support is fantastic. Thx for providing a thorough step by step, down the rabbit hole patch creation. Excellent work as always Tim.
Regarding your comment of having to fiddle with a knob to get that section's parameters on the main screen - if you hold the compare button then fiddle the button it will load up that section but not actually change anything. It's a decent workaround for that concern. Hope it helps.
I am sure you are aware that if you hold the "Compare" button and tweak a parameter you wish to examine, it will remain at the set value without changes. But yes, that feature is lacking in the Oscillator levels. Great video, btw!
Yes there is that compare button. Downside is that's a two handed operation, I'm not a fan of having to stop playing every time I want to see values on a screen 🤷🏻
Thanx Tim -Beautiful rendition of the 3rd Wave! Been drooling over this synth since it debued, but a bit pricy -like the Moog One.😐 GREAT patch breakdown!😎 Cheers Mate!😉
@dankeplace this is a good point. My live rig has a peak and virus desktop currently. But 3w would do all the sounds and functions they do. Use the layers into separate mixer channels as my desktops are, and in multi timbral mode... once I've done the work to recreate the pches, I'll can keep the same splits/layers I have now (muscle memory) plus add more key realestate and sound potential for future material.
For many years I see these synths coming out but having bought the solaris dot see the point in trying these instruments. We might even have rev2 boards soon which will contain reverb as well. Constant evolutions and firmware upgrades are happening too
Nice one Tim... I'd have so much fun with this synth. Lovely sounds and nice effects... Has a different kind of presence than Waldorf synths (which I love)... just shows what a difference those SSM filters bring...
Well, the Waldorf M actually has the same SSM filters as the 3rd Wave, but it’s amazing to me how different they sound. I finally sold my M after I got the 3rd Wave, as I feel like its sonic palette is a (huge) superset of what the M does. I loved the M, I just love the 3rd Wav that much more!
Yes there is that compare button. Downside is that's a two handed operation, I'm not a fan of having to stop playing every time I want to see values on a screen 🤷🏻
Even if you could just select for it to display the current value for a few seconds, when you adjust a knob, before it starts showing a real-time read-out … so that you can definitely make a mental (or actual, if you need to) note of the original value, as you explore …
I, too, would have to be too busy to make videos and then have to return it. May the fates allow you to be too busy for a couple more months, at least!

I agree. Had the 3rd Wave here for a short time hoping it could replace my P6 and OB6 (and add wavetable) because of the analog filter is more or less the same as in P5 and it also has a state variable filter. The filters did sound good, but not good enough to replace them. Looks like an Iridium keyb is the way to go for me.

19:53 it does sound better with FX on though
Been waiting for more of these from Mr. Shoebridge. Not disappointed.

Thanks for doing these Tim. I have one on order and your videos will certainly provide a head start in navigating mine.
I do like these patch deconstruction videos
yes ! and more please

Third wave. Third hand.

It may appear to be a bit pricey, but when you break it down, it has 4 6 voice synths with their own outs and more importantly, their own sequencer.
TRUE -Hence the DROOL! LOL! 😏

Great tutorial Tim even though I don't have this Synthesizer the techniques for making a patch are useful with any Synth I own.

@@coyotegeek did not know that about the M! I was mainly thinking of the Quantum/Iridium I guess...

Tim, you should buy that synth because you'll miss it terribly if you return it to GS.

Question: This 5000$ synth got audio over USB?
No it doesn't. But you can pretty much count the number of synths that support audio over USB on one hand 🤷🏻
Hold down compare before turning a pot, will not change parameter then

I want to cry this synth is "overrated" :-(..............
