My parents have 5 sausages and they’re literally the best. Please be careful with her back and maybe get mini ramps for your sofa and things if you want her up there with you
Adding to what you mentioned, Dachshund spines are so vulnerable. Do not let them jump up or down furniture or use stairs. Build ramps so they don't use stairs. Give them regular exercise to strengthen their backs.

she is soo precious !! i used to work in an animal shelter and for when we had puppies the best tips i can give you is to reward all her good behaviour ! when she listens to you saying 'no', when she goes toilet on the pads etc. and even though she'll go bathroom now in the flat, once she is older and you take her for walks, because you're in a flat i really recommend following a certain schedule like if you have a morning walk and then an evening one she'll learn to do all her toilets then so you don't have to fuss with the pads eventually cause they're soo clever they'll adjust to your schedule,
also now we always recommend when they're so tiny that when you pick them up to do things like gently rub their paws, their ears, touch their tails, try to look at their teeth etc. because they'll get used to that for when they go for check ups at the vet! and when she allows you to do those things then also reward that and honestly it's so beneficial because when they're older they're comfortable with being touched everywhere and feel safe to cause you've conditioned her to be like that :')
Gutted you didn’t adopt or foster as I know you mentioned that in a previous videos, shelters are at full capacity due to living crisis. Adopt if you can guys. Never the less very sweet pup !! I have two rescue dogs which I got as pups. Maybe the next one ❤️
If you drape a blanket over the crate so it's dark and cosy in there, she shouldn't cry. It helps them feel safe

We’ve got a 5 month old pup and having a blanket over the crate for his naps has been a godddd send !!! He’s so good in his crate now !
She’s already got a crate cover :,) just an anxious pup I’m sure she’ll grow out of it xx

We used to put a ticking clock (heartbeat) and a hot water bottle (under her blanket) and she would settle xx

Took my sausage about 3 weeks to stop crying in his crate. He cried periodically for a bit after that too.
Give them lots of treats in there etc to make them happy being in there! Also earplugs too for you 😅
Also everytime they’ve had a nap, a play, eaten etc take them for a wee. And keep the puppy pad in the same place all the time.
He loves his crate now, and won’t wee in the house. persevering with the crate was the best thing we did! Have the best time with your pup 🥰🫶🏼
Top tips for crate training!
Feed her meals in her crate using a Kong toy. This will add positive reinforcement so she associates her crate as good thing. Also never put her in the crate to ‘tell her off’. Try and get her to have naps through out the day in her crate is also a good tip.
Congratulations ❤ I got my first sausage dog at 22. I used to put on white noise while she was crying in her crate to calm her down, if she couldn’t hear herself whine she would stop. Also a small treat whenever she went in her crate. I never put her in her crate as punishment because that should be her safe space. She loves her crate now and will go on command because she expects a treat 😅 dachshunds bond to their owners so this will be a lifetime of love for her ❤

My Labrador puppy only cries when we forget to completely black out her crate. It’s a great way to separate their safe place with the rest of the house! Works a treat xx
Getting a puppy was the best thing I ever did for my mental health. Yes, there are moments where it is stressful and hard, but the unconditional love they give is more than worth it.
I saw the title and I SCREAMED
My little miniature sausage has quite literally saved my life more times than I can count, they are just too cute!! Ours slept the very first night and still has every day since!! Be prepared for how ridiculously stubborn they are and how much they despise the winter weather 😂 they’re a nightmare to get out for a wee or poo in the morn if it’s raining 😂
They are the real therapy hahah!
Ours was super easy to train with a bit of staying strong and not giving in he was super good. Oh and then also go thru toys like they’re bloody giant!😂

Prepare to be super protective of her too with other people, with their back issues you have to be so careful with how you pick them up and most people don’t know how so I get so stressed when people tryint and pick Mav up 🤣💗 oh and tbeh also do not know what personal space is 😂😂
Please make sure she uses a ramp for getting on/off the furniture, to reduce stress on her spine. IVDD is awful for them. She's adorable!!

My puppy slept in a crate for 3 weeks and then we gave up and decided sleeping in our bed is WAY better 😂 the cuddles are to die for

I’ve been thinking about getting a mini dachshund for my mental health, and I’ve been watching as many videos as possible. I really liked this video and she is such an adorable pup 🤍
So happy for you! I’d definitely recommend training her to use a ramp or steps to get onto the sofa or bed from a pup. I work in a vets and we see so many injuries with their backs from getting off sofas x
Btw Dachsunds as a breed are known for having a lot of health problems such as back problems, spinal issues, joint issues etc

I know she very briefly talked about this topic but just to mention it again, if anyone's thinking of getting a puppy/dog, please adopt, don't shop. Many of these trendy pure bred puppies are overbred and end up with painful health conditions. A huge number of them come from puppy farms, where the mother is used as a puppy making machine for the rest of her life and is kept in horrendous conditions. This is all happening when there's an endless number of dogs and puppies rotting away in pounds and rescues. It's a much bigger problem than people realise.
Pretty sure Flossie isn’t condoning illegal breeding and puppy farms. She’s clearly done her research and found a reputable breeder

Not possible for everyone. I tried to rescue for 4 years however as a single woman with a 9-5 job they don't want to know, despite me working from home 6 out of 7 days a week!
@@charleyyxx6591 So you expect a dog to be at home alone from 9-5 most days of the week? There’s a reason rescues don’t give dogs to people who don’t have somebody at home for most of the day.
Dogs are animals who shouldn’t be expected to fit into our lifestyles, we also have to adapt ourselves in order to properly care for a dog
@@liannekelly96 absolutely not, I made an error in my original comment, I meant to say I work in the office 1 out of 7, so home 6 out of 7 days. On the one office day my pup is with a family member who also has a dog, so plenty exercise! But rescue still didnt want to know.

Adorable!!! So happy for you. Little bit of advice- bin the puppy pads it just teaches them it’s ok to pee inside! Take her out every half an hour and even at night still keep taking her out every few hours it’s hard work at first but we did this with my dog and he was essentially toilet trained from the second we were home and only had 2 accidents 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have 2 sausage dogs if you need any tips. They tend to get separation anxiety quite badly and they hate going outside in the rain 😂

For people being mad about buying...its not for everyone to adopt. As someone who been saving animals my whole life its definitely not all unicorns and rainbows. Getting a new dog specially for the first time is supposed to be a good experience and to get one that suits u best its easier to determine with breeds. Ofcourse some breeds are extremely unhealthy and shouldn't look the way they do just for our aesthetic but theres also breeds that are very healthy and incredible and definitely shouldn't die off just because people ruined other breeds for us :) do not feel bad for decisions u made if it worked out great and u and ur pup are happy and healthy.

Congratulations Flossie, sausage dogs are the best!!! SOOOOOO loyal to you and they can get protective (my Theo does but he is 11 so grumpy old man). Make sure to keep her social and around the people you're closest to!! She's going to be the best thing that has happened to you and really help in the harder times- mine does :)) Best of luck to you both, I'm sure she'll have a lavish and very happy life beside you
Also my dog was never in a crate and he still cried a lot in the first couple of days so don't be too worried about it, they just miss their families!! And if you want to keep your stuffed sausage dog do not give it to her ahah she’ll destroy it, my dog doesn’t have one toy that is not ripped but they’re hunting dogs so that’s what they do :)

When my dog was a pup we put a top in his crate that smelt really strong of one of us. He cried the first night without this then didn’t cry again once we put it in!
I just thought I’d say since most people don’t know and you seem really careful about her health. Sausage dogs are known from having awful posture problems that lead to spine and back pain and deformation that can be really painful as they grow. So it’s useful to stretch them out routinely and realign their spine. Maybe you could do a bit more research on how to do it? I hope this helps xxxx

I got a sausage pup in the summer, they are the best and changed my life for the better 100% i remember how fragile i thought she was at first but i would rrccomend ramps and steps for sofas if shes gunna be allowed on there🥰🥰

There are reasons why adopting an animal requires a long and rigorous process. Maybe people should consider that before heading to a puppy farm. They are not there to make you feel better about yourself. You are supposed to make them feel better and safe. Thoughts and prayers for that poor puppy...
