Love this , I bought a new M1 mac Mini in 2021. 2 Months ago i got a 2012 model on ebay , upgraded the ram and installed an SSD . Installing Monterey OS was very easy. For what I do , light browsing etc , the performance is identical to the M1. I sold the M1 last week for £400.

you just helped me make my decision i bought the cheapest i5 2012 mac mini with plans to upgrade it later all i do is web browse watch youtube tv/movies bonus is it connects with my phone

@@coke383 i5 is not a good idea. 2012 i7 vs 2012 i5 has very little price difference but the performance difference is enormous.

@@Almarillion I'd say, one can feel the differenc pretty well. And I would also recommend getting an i7 Mac Mini late 2012. But still, the i5 version is not a lame duck. If you are not expecting video rendering, modern game play, content creator stuff but a solid every day machine for office, media, internet stuff, the i5 is likewise still a usuable machine. I got both, several i5 and two i7 running on Sonoma (via OCLP), from 8 to 16 GB, different setups. All do work good. I would rather recommend to eventually upgrade the Mini to the full 16 GB RAM and, of course, a SSD drive. No matter which SATA III - the cheapest might do. Still a HUGE improvement to the original HDD / mechanical drive.

The 2012 Mac mini with an SSD is a great computer for web surfing, file management, and light office work. I have one in my shop but use a 2022 M2 MacBook Pro as my main computer. The 2012 Mac mini does simple tasks as well as the 10-year newer Mac at 1/10 the cost. Can use the Mac mini and "Screen Sharing" to run programs that need more computing power on the M2 Mac.

Thanks - I just won one of these in an auction (not eBay) for £16 ($20) so excited to see what it can do and how it compares to my 2012 MacBook Pro (£900 from new) - oh, and you have another subscriber 👍🏻🔔

I installed Windows 10 on mine without changing drives and it runs great. 16 GB Ram and 1 TB HD.

I'm watching this on a 2012 with 2.5 i5. Notably I run Debian, which doesn't care that the processor is a bit old. So long as it's 64-bit, I could even run Ubuntu.

Wow, this was such an enjoyable video to come across. I have an 2011 base mac mini that I plan to use for a while as my desktop especially after seeing a video like this. I've already upgraded it a while ago to 16gb ram and attached a bootable ssd drive. Looking forward to seeing more content from this channel. Thanks

This is nice. Tho I expected that you would do the boot test after SSD upgrade, in order to highlight the difference

I am actually using a mac mini from 2012 right now lol. I did upgrade it to 16gb ram and its actually much better with the spin hard disc. I might one day get the m2 mac mini.

I still have my 2012 Mini. Running Catalina with no issues, but only using it as a TV for movies/internets, etc. Will probably connect it to my Pro Tools studio and see how well it can perform, but with only 16GB max ram, expectations are somewhat low fur large session woth lots of plugins etc. We shall see.

Hi. Great video. So I did this same thing to my 2012 Mac Mini SSD with 500GB and 16 GB ram. I also went ahead and installed OS Ventura ( Another Video).. That was 2 weeks ago and everything is still running lightning fast. I loaded the latest Logic Pro on it and it still runs great. There is one issue. If I try to bring audio in with my audio in-outbox it just won't work. Logic recognizes it. It allows me to select it as audio-in but it won't record. I'm thinking it's because of the old USB ports on this 2012 Mac? Could it be that they are not strong enough? What might be a workaround? Thanks

I think it could be a combination of both usb ports and the fact that the macOS Ventura patcher probably doesn’t fully support something like that.

    Thank You
I need to do exactly what you
Have done. My dear friend of
37 years gave me his similar
Mac mini. However he died from COVID before the administrator password was given to me. Now the question
I would like to physically remove
His hard drive and replace it
    with a new HD
    Is this possible?

    • @BlazeTechOffical
      @BlazeTechOffical  Год назад

Yes, for sure. I’m not certain about the newer ones, but if you have the Mac similar to mine, you should be able to replace it just fine. If you don’t want to replace the Hard drive, you can always boot into recovery mode and wipe the hard drive there.

OWC (Other World Computing) / MacSales has videos on their website on what models can be upgraded. You should be able to check their website to determine if your model can have the drive replaced. Going from memory, I think all model Mac mini made 2018 and earlier can have the drives replaced.
