This was back when Em had nothing to lose but more to give you can hear the passion in his voice for sure
Really? I don't hear it but I guess that's just my opinion
@@kadertraore3404😐
Nothing to lose, yes. More to give? No.
@@kadertraore3404it’s an intangible, the hunger in his cadence and voice is there. The hunger to survive and succeed is gone, which is normal when you’re worth hundreds of million dollars. It’s the intangible you can’t see or hear, but the same reason why pro athletes kids aren’t as successful as their fathers. Growing up hungry to make it provides something that you can’t see
EM said in an interview that when people miss this em it’s the anger and hate that he had which was like exemplified by the drugs and alcohol, but he still has the same passion in my opinion
Yh and of course if he still had that anger and hate it would be weird
@@goldenduck854 it only comes out when making a diss track now
@@GiftIdeh-cg7idBut he sounds robotic though idk how to describe it
Shit it’s not even the words that impress me it’s the way he can go off the top of the dome clever as shit it’s unbelievable really
It’s not the anger. It’s the passion, the grit, the voice, the smooth flow and cadence
"I throw a stroller at you, with a baby in it"
Not this freestyle but that one is my favorite
I'm just saying that's old Eminem lol
now dont you dare make fun of that baby because that baby was me
If Shady said it, Shady meant it
@@shawngeorge7706 i stay demented
97-2000 Eminem was CRAZY. People always say it began in 99, but he was signed March 98 and was on radio 97.
Let’s go scruuu. The JID fans still waiting on Cereal with IDK, JID, and Kenny Mason!
Was not expecting this reaction but I’m here for it 🔥
He was extremely hilarious in his delivery and used to ride the beats effortlessly in this era
There's another video where scru says em used to deliver the lyrics "these ideas are nightmares to white parents..." And now it's "THeSE ideas Are NIGHTmares to WHITE pa-rents" and that's so true lol
@@tomimpaladudes also older
"I don't know what was different about em"
Literally Em's next line-I STRAP A WHOLE SHEET OF ACID TO MY FOREHEAD AND LET IT MELT
I was about to say this same thing🤣
Idk about psychedelics but does that work?
Someone told about a uncle who had acid there pocket that fell out of packaging and melted pretty much melted his mind
@@AJayZyacid can absorb through your skin pores.
@@calebbennett563 Yep now an kind of familiar with it and it’s potency is decent
It was all punchlines and imagery back then. "I got you with a live cat, while I'm swinging it by its tail"
2:10 it was drugs scru 😂
Lol that's exactly what I said at 2:10
I agree 100% about EMs run, there was a time when you knew everytime he doing a feature, no one else on the song mattered, his flow and voice was so perfection
the mozzerella hellicopter propeller bar is bananas. i think what you mean is its alot easier to digest and follow. the way the bars are constructed compared to the newer version of em.
Stay Wide Awake is still one of the most underrated masterclasses of his pen, the delivery, cadences, story telling LoL
*Soon as my flow starts
I compose art like the ghost of Mozart*
This is why my favorite version of Eminem is 90's - 2009 cuz Relapse is a Classic, 2009 in general imo was the last year when he went full "i don't give a fuck" mode with Slim Shady plus his flow at the time in addition to the Horrorcore material in his raps when he would bend the words with his accent is just masterclass. I still like current Eminem for the technical ability but 90's, Early 2000's and 2009 Eras of Eminem just hits different compared to now cuz he used to ride the beat so smoothly with his flow back then and the off the wall shit he used to say was insane
1997-2003 Eminem it’s definitely the voice, it had a unique sound to it
Em prime was definitely Eminem Show period with the 50 Cent, Obie, D12 features. Flow was perfect on every song.
No way man, why does people think that Eminem show was he’s prime, slim shady lp and Marshall Mather’s lp was he’s prime…..
The two key differences are that back in the day Em changed the tone of his voice way more than he does now. He almost used his voice like an instrument. Think of "When I was just a little baby girl my mama used to tell me these crazy things" from Kill you and how his voice follows the melody of the song. Current Em doesn't really adjust his tone anymore. He still switches up the flow (probably even more than in the past) but he keeps the sound of his voice the same all the time.
The second thing that changed is that Em used to let his voice "ring" so to speak. Think of how you can let a tone go on when playing the piano or you can press the paddle that mutes it to stop it from ringing. Em used to let his voice ring and naturally flow from one word into the next. Current Em muffles / mutes every word which gives it that chopped feeling (which can sound nice in certain scnearios, but I feel like it's all he does these days).
I still love Em and his new style has many dope aspects about it as well, but I do agree that his older stuff simply sounded better.
I’ve always thought when people try to out do their self, it’ll come off cringe. But when you relax and just do what you know to do. Masterclass.
The accent, the voice, the flow, the anger, the rhymes, the twistedness
The drugs too! You can hear Em's voice mature on The Eminem Show. The nasal accent went away, partial on tracks like Superman, Sing for the Moment however I feel like most of the time he was aggressive with his approach. I personally think MMLP has his best vocal tone and is the hardest/darkest record he has to date.
The difference (aside from more obvious factors) is that this was the taunted and abused animal fresh off the chain. He went from feeling completely powerless and unacceptable everywhere in his life - from home to school (and school to school), no sense of safety or consistency, nothing and no one to depend on, which is what a child needs most - to finding one place where he had some power and control. It’s like a beast that’s been chained and taunted and barely fed for years being set free.
The first half of his career was basically. “Look at me. I am the captain now!” Lol
But once having that way out, and that way to let out all of that rage, it had to diffuse at some point. And thank God for that.
All that said, I think he’s equally if not even more brilliant today. He’s a different kind of different. But a lot of people got attached to that early version, and it’s hard to watch people change that you’re attached to. But it’s important for artists to grow.
And let’s be honest, nobody wants to see 50yo Em with the overalls and chainsaw. Lol. That’s not a good look, y’all!
I know you mean the rap vs. the look, but you know what I’m saying. There’s supposed to be a difference between 20 and 50.
And he ain’t done yet.
The "something" is youthful rage.
“Well To be truthful the blueprint’s…simply rage and youthful exuberance. Everybody loves to root for nuisance…hit the Earth like an asteroid and did nothing but shoot for the moon since!”
Em is unmatched! I don’t wanna hear or see nobody hating. Dude paved the way for all these Hopsin wannabes etc
No hopsin slander in here
Most Eminem wannabees take his style and rap speed but never take his skill.
@@natesullivan2456it’s not hopsin slander he said hopsin wannabes he didn’t say anything bad about hopsin if anything he said something good about him
@@Zero.xk1 facts. Hopsin is one of my favorite artist next to Em and Logic.
@@judasblack5686💀💀💀
He was hungry, youthful, and had SOUL. He tries to bring it back this days but it’s like your dad will never be the fighter he was in his 20s
NGL id like to see your reaction to classics like sing for the moment, cartoons and cereal and etc with your views today
The in depth that you do and you really break it down and help people realize how he is landing on that beat is so awesome idk it’s like getting an actual music professional to break it down and when you do em it’s the best
let's go more em reacts!! I may not agree on everything scru says or does, but you can't lie, he's himself and I respect it. A mark of a true artist.
We need more of these
Em was very reciteable back then. All the way up to eminem show and even encore. He had a paced flow. These days its so jarring and jagged that you cant really get in pocket with it
He was younger, hungry, focusing on trying to make it. Now? He’s matured. He’s perfected the craft. He’s much more technical and doing things with words that no one else is. It’s not a knock at all - it’s just a different style. Some can’t stand it. I’m all in - have been since his first appearance on MTV
Yeah i miss this Em, i just cant force myself to like the new stuff. Listen to Git Up by d12, Em is a monster on that record
You need to react to that live performance of Low Down and Shifty from 97 to like twenty people
Bro you like it because the cadence is more simple to follow
This freestyle and his verse on Hellbound are GOATed
its the fact that he was this good back then and was wanting to learn so much more about the craft. He was a comedian in hip hop form telling stories
Of course he was different then. He wasn't rich. His was rapping like his life depended on it because... it DID back then. I remember when you had no subs about 5 years ago, living under a roof that looked like it could collapse on your head at any given time. You had a soul bro... them reactions had a PASSION... I'm not saying that you don't throw dope reactions now but those reactions from 5 years ago were God tier. Now that I think about it, you got a lot in common with the "Eminem Pre R" narrative you throwing out here.
(I'm not saying you're corny now btw, much love from Puerto Rico)
It’s crazy how you made this post to give em props and still tore him up lol what about homicide lord above realest Friday night cypher all these verses you loved I think you k ow your hip hop I would love to have a convo about it tho just to talk about rap cause you contradict yourself a lot
Back then all Eminems lines hit like when the dvd logo hit the corner of the screen, he just constructed his sentences so perfectly and didn't waste a single word and had a nice flow, delivery and rhyme schemes...a lot of new em songs lack all of this except rhyme schemes. Back then he was just mad at the world, had a tough upbringing, bad marriage and had been recently broke af, the farther away that is the less of that anger he has so its less genuine when he's tryna be that today.
❤ 0:07
You have to remember that since he overdosed and almost died I think is when his voice got different the tubes in his throat probably did something to his throat muscle that might not allow him to spit like this
I think what makes it land better is that it’s so monotone, it’s just straight to the point
You’re absolutely right Scru. There was a balance between it being sonically pleasing and technically outfuckingrageous, combined with insane imagery and jokes with performance and adlib within the studio tracks that made you feel like he’s right there in like your friend’s basement with you or something clowning around telling jokes or stories or shit. He’d hypnotize you with the syllables, had an easier, less strenuous delivery (even when it was an angry track) so as to not break the spell that made it seem like his talent was effortless and then he’d just lock into the flow relentlessly. The formula was exceptional plus he was on the come up so the approach, style, subject matter and content was all fresh.
it's his delivery and the pauses between each bar. That's why this version of him pops more to you
There was something about old Em that words can’t really describe. I had him top 2 between him and Tupac easily no discussion. The technicality plus the wittiness, the persona, the voice inflection and delivery. Even when you listen to his voice now it’s like he sounds like he’s been neutered or something lol
“Something that was here” It was the RAGE and HUNGER 🔥
Accent
Damn. Just found your reactions. Thank you
Eminem was wayyyy ahead of his time. He brother a generation. No one can paint pictures with words like em
He emphases more and slowed down more. I really think he just got faster and more thoutful. Here he was young, broke, on drugs and suicidal. Now he knows how to manage himself and be more thoughtful while also experimenting. And much faster.
The "it" you were trying to describe he had....it was angst. He brought metal/rock angst straight to hip hop in a special way
It's actually pretty simple, em changes with the times and still manages to make people tune in. He's always evolving and experimenting with how far he can take his pen. Some work, some don't. But he can tap into all of it
Like Scru said, whats the line thats like tattooed behind your eyeball.. mine is 'hit you with a stroller with a baby in it' 😂
Em's freestyles in that 97-99 period are like some sick images that would only appear in a truly disturbed mind. Dark and shady (pun very much fkin intended) af. Bro, you GOTTA react to "I Do Pop Pills" and "Weed Lacer". Those two are fkin crazy. And the one he did on a show right before SSLP dropped, that one is straight up batshit insane
I mean if you doing this you gotta do the SLAUGHTER HOUSE CYPHER 🔥🔥🔥🔥
A/ey, B? Let's C/see. You said you're gonna do X, Y, Z till you fuck around and get dropped like an E when you add an "I" in G, don't out a K in front of that though! When I MC. Cause I'm not the king of this microphone booth, it's more like a phone booth. Superman in this bitch. Kryptonite won't do.
That's because that was Slim Shady💣 Now he's older & Eminem. Only way to put it 🔥
@7:36 It's the space in between the words that set his bars apart.
Totally agree that his early work was his best work. I'd love to see more reactions from any of his first three records. Please keep it coming
Scru getting the maximum views today on this video 😂😂😂
The thing is that Eminem is no longer angry and starving. He's no longer in survival mode! He officially has zero left to prove and I don't even think he's noticed it yet. This man has accomplished everything he ever wanted to.
'have you locked in a cellar, developin anorexia, while I'm standing next to ya eating a full course meal' is fkn hilarious. This era Em was a comedy genius.
Young EM was different breed
It’s the hunger. It’s the climb. The Eminem show will forever be top 5 albums of all time. This the Em that had a point to prove.
and all these bars just for a radio freestyle!! legendary
Harry Mack - I AInt Gotta Worry
Yesssss
Gtfo with dad rap ty
Freestyle Eminem during this time just had the passion and “it” factor. Same thing mixtape lil Wayne had between 2005(The dedication) and 2009(no Ceilings).
This is EM from his Rawkus Records soundbombing TAPE days
i never heard his rawkus records!
“Go to bed with the keg.” 🤣
youshould also do the freestyle of his where he rhymes every line with "Keepin it raw" Every line rhymes with that one... You can find it by the same name. I hope ya do it :)
I would really love to see you react to the Wake Up Show Anthem 7. I'm sure many people have never heard it, but the breakdown would be well worth it.
Kamikaze was Insane though. With Joyner!!??
"'I don't like rap, but I'm taxin em"🤣😂😂
Nostalgia is a mfer, that's what's different, Em always had the corny punchlines because that was Slim Shady being over the top plus he was hungry and this was fresh and new back then now if he raps this way is just another day
For a guy who’s a yr older then then the slim shady lp what ya said from rap olympics to encore is spot on I’ve always had the same opinion to hear u have that is a gd ting to hear brudda 💯
I’ve had this exact conversation with myself anytime I hear new em. It’s his voice 1000%. Between his normal rapping voice (here) or his aggression (till I collapse, way I am), he had a swag to his voice. He enunciated words differently. Probly because where he came from and who he was around. Now, he just sounds like a….white boy. He just talks now. You get a glimpse of old em once in a while at certain points of songs, but it doesn’t last. Like the ringer is a good example. You could hear old em wanting to come out
When I hear "Why doesn't he just do this today, This is why we fell in love with Eminem"......... I don't think people realize that when Eminem OVERDOSED, Brought back to life, & kept in a medically induced Coma for 10+ days he actually had to Re-Learn how to Rap because he actually didn't know how anymore, & you can listen to the leaked track called "DETROIT PISTONS" you will hear how he sounded before he relearned to Rap again........ Also I truly believe he looks at the style that blew I'm him up & he knows he hit the greatest skill using that style & if he can't improve that style he is bored with it, So he begins down another path where he fell in love with BUILDING A VERSE & USING SYLLABLES LIKE THEY ARE LEGO & He has seen that that style has a unlimited levels using that & it is truly what is Fun & a test for him so he actually loves & enjoys using that style because it is an actual task for him ...... I'm sure he can do the old style but its just something that doesn't entertain him & it really bores him because its like playing MADDEN on ROOKIE even though your actual Skill Level is ALL-MADDEN , So if you play on Rookie & you just Smoke the computer every time it does become very boring because at that level there is nothing else to learn at all & you go into the game already knowing you are gonna score 80pts because you are not getting challenged on that level
This guy gets it
It’s the anger, hate, recklessness, and the drugs. He’s done extensive therapy and rehab so he’s not the same person as he was back then. You could feel it back then. Now it’s all technical which is better for him. But back then it was all personal and emotional. You felt what he felt.
Have you reacted to 'infinite' early Em?
I would have to say at that time rap was like that(99-2000) and the fact em had to shine brighter to be seen. Was ground breaking. The rap scene at that time was shiny suits and the real rap was underground. He had bars that made you listen and comprehend not just hear it. Also there were plenty of artists that he was contending with. Iron sharpens iron
I miss that Eminem so much!
The any word freestyle when paul Rosenberg throws some words on the radio station in nineteen nine is probably one of the best free dallas
Skilled lyricist and vocal executioner
Scruuuuu!!! You gotta do JID freestyle my name is!😮
2:05 "There was something that was here, but i dont know" Ill tell y9ou what it was... his FLOW! his iconic, cant be touched FLOW. This Em not only had the craziest lyricism, word play, bars, but he had the perfect flow to go with it. Something he doesnt do anymore, he just decided to stop flowing with the song. htats why when he came out with The Death of Slim Shady he showed us he can still do it, just chooses not to for some insane reason.
In other words, he could ride any beat better than any living human ever.
I agree that was the greatest run EVER! During that run you knew any damn song he was on he killed, when he was featured everyone knew he would go last, and would always kill every beat, he would steal other artists songs and make it his beecause of how badly he murdered it. Like Jay Zs Renegade is actually Eminem Ft Jay Z - Renegade... the way he killed it.
He is thenically better wright now. I love this EM currently
This a certified hater😂.. Always does, say, same shit bout em
I’m actually rocking the same goku shirt today 💪🏽🔥 R.I.P. Toriyama 🕊️
Your problem is you're comparing modern EM to old EM. it's like what Hov said: "go listen to my old albums then"
I think he changed his flow and everything in the middle of his 3rd album Eminem Show. He started with the Triumph the puppet Dog, and brought that accent to the 2nd half of Eminem Show, and all of Encore. His Relapse and Refill albums went back to that 2nd album crazy Em
The thing you're talking about is just a vibe that you can't describe. I think it's just the " I just don't give a fuck" vibe that he embodied back then. Which is why a lot of people were drawn to him.
25th ann Of Slim Shady LP. I still have hopes of this next album
PLEASE do hell freezes over!!
Em in his prime was straight up fire. I"m not a big fan of the choppy flow he has now. Almost like he's so worried about playing with syllabels and words, but back then he sounded relaxed and you'r right, he didn't give a eff. I'm not sure what it is either.
I would love for you to react to the final from 8 mile, man! There are so many of the references there that are obviously fire, but I'm not getting them
He couldnt be just a good rapper he had to go so beyond everyone just to be seen with respect. The slim shady Lp the grimy masterpiece
What you do not like about his new music is the delivery. It lands on your ear funny. Additionally, all the singing he attempts.
It was actually his album infinite that got him the interveiw with dre and Jimmy
I’ve heard these flows before but I still had to rewind and be like “what he say and how” just now. Nah man, anyone that can’t give Em goat status is just hating or misinformed
His flows and bars are much more simplistic and less technical but it allows for more creativity and relatability. He comes across like a computer now and while yes it’s amazing to break down it just doesn’t measure up
I disagree
Have you reacted to Em's baruch college session with AL ? That's another old gem. Some repeats on there tho
Something that is not in Eminem raps nowadays, is the unhinged anger, the total wrath he wants to unleash for the unfairness he felt, he is less irritated now, and ofc has less energy to unleash his anger. Get him angry? Then you get Slim Shady, the peak rap immortality.
Back then he was hungry!! Now he pretty much did it all.. still a goat though. One of the illest to touch a mic
I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something about the old Eminem that gets you super hyped compared to how he raps and how his songs are now. Sometimes I wish that he would go back to this
He overdosed bruh
Never heard this one before 🔥🔥
