Yes, the Sprint is primarily about the Grand Prix weekend ticket holders. The people who showed up on Friday afternoon for Sprint Quali was insane. Allowing them to work on the cars between the Sprint and GP Quali corrected my only issue with the old Sprint format. The teams can still do the sim work on Friday night and apply that work to the data collected from the Sprint to get the cars dialed in for GP Quali. I'm now OK with the Sprint format being the default race weekend. The one practice is now so intense because it has to provide all long run, tire, and quali data. The one risk is rain. Rain will blow up a Sprint weekend beyond repair.

Back in Baku, Norris was made fun of for not having a banker lap in "that rocketship" after the unfortunate yellow flag (which happened to Hamilton btw this time), this time, Norris had a good banker lap that enabled him to keep pole after the unfortunate yellow flag for Verstappen. Keeping that logic, Max bottled in quali and Norris learnt from his mistake🤓
The stupid thing is in Baku he had a banker lap which was competitive compared to what everyone did on the first run. The track just evolved enough for the slower cars to beat that on the 2nd runs. Even if he was the first car out for the second runs if a yellow came he wouldn't have had time to go for another flying lap. The whole thing was just idiots saying idiot things.

Agreed, I'm also not a fan of sprint weekends... ...indeed I'll go further - there are too many races in a season with a worrying likelihood that more are on the way, devaluing each individual weekend and making F1 harder to consistently follow for people who's lives involve more than being glued to the telly.* *and it must be getting idiotic for the poor buggers who are part of the on-track personnel for each team.
Verstappen would have definitely got pole if he had finished his lap. But credit to Lando he did the better job on the first lap and that’s how it is sometimes.
Ferrari were quite evidently the quickest race car on the mediums during the whole sprint, while having to fight against eachother, Russell and Norris, only finishing 4 odd seconds off Max. Their hard compound pace in fp1 looked super strong also. My money is on them.
Peter turning into quite a Norris fanboy. He failed under pressure from a very clever Sainz. Face it… Did Max make a mistake in the sprint race? And THAT’S the difference between Max and Norris.
@@daarom3472 McLaren is a tricky car Lando had the experience on his side, so give him a season or two he will be there. The way he controls the race from the front is such a mature head on young shoulders.
Mclaren only 3rd fastest this weekend. Lando needed a near perfect lap and some luck to get pole, probably could have been 4th just as sprint quali. Wthout any accidents Norris is going to struggle to finish on the podium at Sunday race.
Looks like Mclaren got to do some good setup work in quali. I was expecting this with their massive upgrades. Let’s see if they improved their tire deg. Do you think Max deliberately kept Lando just out of DRS to reduce tire cooling in dirty air? These cars seem so sensitive to dirty air in terms of tire deg.
he certainly wouldn't have been pushing like a mad man. I do think the mclaren is the slower car this weekend as they look to figure out what their upgrades are doing but still max is very good at leading a race now and he proved that today. No mistakes, great tyre management and great pace very much reminiscent of the dominance of last year
@@crushx maybe it’s a coincidence, but the lead car usually has much better tire deg in clean air. We all said Piastri wasn’t as good at tire managment compared to Norris till Oscar started leading races then everyone said all of a sudden he learned how to manage the tires. I think it’s more to do with driving in dirty air. Drivers having to back off to keep them cool. If a driver was leading and knew he had pace advantage it would be beneficial to keep the guy behind you as close as possible to the DRS gap to heat up those tires. Just speculation but it was odd that max slowed from his 2.5s gap back to 1.4 and maintained that till Landos tires fell off. If he was speed matching for tire managment he could have simply kept the 2.5 second gap.
Red Bull and their dominance last year and the beginning of 2024 and the complaints from fans, teams, drivers and Networks with the loss of viewership, the F1A and so called higher ups asked Red Bull to cool their jets in the domination of F1. Otherwise things will have to change. Max and Red Bull will be back to dominate the balance of the season. Money talks. They let other teams win a few and did what was asked.

95% chance Max gets the title now, Lando needs to maximise every weekend with at least one DNF from Max
Agreed, I'm also not a fan of sprint weekends...
...indeed I'll go further - there are too many races in a season with a worrying likelihood that more are on the way, devaluing each individual weekend and making F1 harder to consistently follow for people who's lives involve more than being glued to the telly.*
*and it must be getting idiotic for the poor buggers who are part of the on-track personnel for each team.
Stop all BS between the driver and the team and let the driver do the work alone and then it's real racing 😺
Verstappen would have definitely got pole if he had finished his lap. But credit to Lando he did the better job on the first lap and that’s how it is sometimes.
Recall Jackie Stewart on driving a nervous car in a higher gear through corners.
Without the rear wing trick Ferraris were catching Lando easily 😮😮😮
Also Max now is running away easily in mediums.
Lando even got away with excessive breaking on Charles. Something similar were Alonso got 20s penalty for in Australia.
@@nilsthart4154 mistakes are always a part of Lando's drive this season, next season Oscar will be the lead driver... Cmon Oscar boy 👦
@@DineshKumar-iu5plI feel that Oscar has dropped massively since they told him he's the #2 driver.
I don't think Oscar likes this, at all.
@@daarom3472 McLaren is a tricky car Lando had the experience on his side, so give him a season or two he will be there. The way he controls the race from the front is such a mature head on young shoulders.
Leclerc cracked him too.
Are we all going to pretend that Lewis " is jukst past it" no outside interference?
I noticed max smooth long smooth corner style in the sprint as well. Ferrari firing sainz for hamilton 😮 typical Ferrari
What's crazier is that red bull kept Perez instead of signing sainz when he was available
Hmmm it sounds like you don't like COTA track because it doesn't fit with your narrative.
First 9 minutes is bragging about clear situation. Lando is great but sad to see Mr Windsor is not impartial anymore.
Max was given a 10 seconds penalty in Austria when he did exactly the same as Lando. MafFIA 🇬🇧
Lando Norris did one section better, do any of the other sections where Max was superior warrant coverage?
He was faster over the lap
Dear Mr. Windsor, this time your qualifying review was bit overshadowed....you showed this time how biased your are:(
Lewis proves time and again to his critics that if his car isn't perfect he can't get anything done!
Mclaren only 3rd fastest this weekend. Lando needed a near perfect lap and some luck to get pole, probably could have been 4th just as sprint quali. Wthout any accidents Norris is going to struggle to finish on the podium at Sunday race.
Peter Windsor is a good analyst but also a BIG norris fanboy.
I watched this video to hear how Hamilton was actually faster than Russell in Q1 …
Isn't it's too early for Peter to suggest that Liam is good enough to be Max's team mate next year !
Being listening to his analysis for a few years now. He will praise the drivers that he fancy , and will play down the performance of drivers he doesn't like.
This guy is not neutral in his analysis.
He is anti Yuki.
Anyway, his analysis is getting boring.
There are many RUclipsrs with a much broader view .
Agree 💯
He was 3rd in Q1 in a Vcarb, massively outperformed the car, with a 2 tenths margin over 4th. Deserves the shot in a RedBull, will easily beat what Perez is capable of.
Which channels??
Each yellow should EXTEND qualification time. It's common sense.
The car hit the wall and is parked thr without a wheel it was a red flag which they did not give just to run the time out with double yellow, FIA always the worst in decision making
Funny how people only say this when it goes against max
Lewis Hamilton is finshed, this is the biggest downfall I've ever seen in F1. He's just embarrassing himself and killing his legacy, he should retire before the season ends.
Wonder how Ferrari feels about that mega deal now?
@@Phoenix-Wino They will be regretting, a waste of money and a pr pain in the arse, I'll be surprised if he lasts 2 seasons.
Peter is getting old and some of his takes are just bs
💯
No offense Peter… Lando on pole basically means sweet FA 😉
You gave them the secret to winning.
It's so funny reading all these salty RB! Ferrari fans with their noses out of joint. Norris did a great lap, deal with it. 😂
Shocking that Norris had to be told how to drive the car ! He’s second rate , his car is championship worthy not him
All the drivers get coaching from the pit wall.
I don't think there are many max haters left, lando made them his own 😂. Anyways, a day where the driver had to make the difference, Lando didn't do that in the Sprint, but did in quali
4th!
This guy Peter contradict himself all the time 😄 if Leclerc is so much better than Sainz why he coudn't do anything against him in the Sprint race and he even got overtaken by Carlos ?
Leclerc is a lot better than Sainz, Sainz is a great driver but Leclerc is on the absolute highest level, quit the rage bait and calm down there little brother.
So Charles has been destroying Carlos for so many races , now Sainz beats him in ONE RACE and of a sudden Sainz is better , look who more more races , more poles , more poduims , more points . Sainz fans are so desperate man it's crazy
@@user-tr1hx7jx4ryeah it’s actually crazy how they jump on Leclerc once he’s getting beat once by Sainz😂
Sainz had a couple races at the start of this year where he was a bit better but Leclerc has arguably been one of the best drivers this season. Sainz is good, but not Leclerc-good.
Mate leclerc has beat sainz 12-4 in races this year, one sprint race where he was over eager and failed to overtake 4/5 times doesn't change that
Lando choked
First view!
334th!
He was already a second down on Knorris his time before hitting the yellows.
Lando's lap definitely would have been deleted if it were any mid-team
Landos engineer is getting on my nerves
