Chef John's Rice Paper Hack for Wrapping Anything
Wait the double layered roll! This probably makes it hold stronger! Never thought of it, thanks John!!
Probably? No, it most definitely does AND allows for you to see the meat better for presentation too.
This little short changed my lunch game entirely.
YES CHEF JOHN SHORTS!!!
I love vietnamese spring rolls, especially with a little peanut sauce.
Omg, me too!!! I love the shrimp and beef rolls, they’re my favorite!
I bought rice papers for my niece, but, now I'm going to use them. I love this technique.
The soothing voice of chef john..❤
You are after all the Huckleberry Hound of this bánh tráng workaround
So... DON'T follow the instructions for warm water/10 seconds? Game changer.
Thanks, Chef! Can't wait to try them again.
Now - do you uave a sesame dipping sauce recipe?
In Vietnam, we typically just wet the edges and put damp lettuce in the middle. Does the same thing and it's not so sticky at the very beginning
@@nathank556the banh trang sold in the states are different and we don't have VN's humidity. 😉
I’m very excited to learn this technique
Ty
I have my own version of lettuce wraps, the blow PF Changs away, and this is a great idea for serving them. I’ve been enlightened Chef John.
Dannnng a simple towel to roll on instead of plate or counter top, GAME CHANGER🤦♀️❤️❤️❤️🥰😎
In other words, a burrito fold. Roll up 3/4, fold the sides in, then complete the first roll.
Alright so there is something missing from this. If you want vegitables, lettuce, seafood things such as this, great! Pair it with hoisin sauce, horseradish sauce, eel sauce.
BUT if u want a gluten free eggroll, I fill mine with BBQ pork, grilled corn and minced onion and then....the secret, rest in the fridge 20min, then deep fry in oil til golden brown! Oh man, make a bunch because you will eat them all!
Wow, that sounds goooood!
These are salad rolls, not spring rolls and not egg rolls.
Didn't see how you tucked in the sides?
He didn't on the first clips but the end product was tucked in. Tuck after filled and before you finish rolling. then it will stick to itself
@@wardrobelion thank you!
Chef John's excellent rolling technique is somewhat suspicious.
😜
"What you put in here really doesn't matter!"
Hello Chef John! Nice hack technique for beginners!
Just wondeirng, have you tried the squared no water required rice paper?
Would recommend to try!
I used to use the circle/water required but never went back to it after using the squared on lol.
Chef John, can you please please PLEASE do a video on how to make the Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce??!!
Thank you so so much.
Dang, C.J. This is what I needed to correct my technique recipe. Thank you.
Oooooooooohhhhhhhh!
Might be a fun for lunch / picnic / get kids to eat veggies
Excellent. A must try.
Yum❤😊
Spring rolls, yey
As a Vietnames I suggest that boiled belly pork is the best thing to added in it. Ofcoure you can put anything you want but pork is just the best!
Not really a hack, so much a how-to, ie instructions on how to use as intended. A hack would be using rice paper to fix drywall, or a trick using leftover rice and a blender to make rice paper, or using rice paper instead of a crepe to make Beef Wellington. I’m not saying you should do those, I’m just saying that if those worked, they would be the kind of things considered hacks: a nontraditional use of the item, or a nontraditional way of making the item.
If was double rolled, why doesnt it show the two layers when is cut at the end?
Because double rolling usually tears the rice paper. It's better for 1 single fill so there is 2 layers of rice paper, especially if you plan to fry it.
Need some sauce suggestions
Peanut sauce for sure!!
you should tuck the sides of the roll in. I just had some for lunch
Wheres the Beef?!?!?
wait, did the ends just tuck themselves in??
It works, you just have to develop your technique.
wait...were not supposed to fry it?
Instructions unclear... so do I or do I not add cayenne pepper? You are, afterall, the Hugh Jackman of adding cayenne
It's not a "hack". It's instructions.
Warm water, not cold.
Hey Chef John, 2 things. 1st needs a dipping sauce. 2nd use a damp towel and reduce your plastic usage!!! Just saying…
Why is Chef John faking his own voice with AI?
