I was 9 years old when I saw Hoosiers in the beginning of 2000. I was part of my religion school's CYO Basketball team and one Friday night after practice the night before a game, we watched this on VHS. When Jimmy shot the final shot and made it, my entire team erupted in applause. Have never forgotten that. A beautiful movie.
I love this scene so much. The whole movie they had to learn to trust coach, and now here he had to learn to trust them. Sometimes it's time to stop coaching and let your players play.
One of those movies that no matter when it comes on and no matter how far in the movie you are, you put down the remote and watch it. Just a perfect film.
I love this movie. I've seen it a couple of hundred times and I can't wait for march when they play this movie over and over. I am from Ohio and have been through Indiana on occasions and this movie perfectly catches the feel of the midwest in late winter, very early spring.
Fun fact: The fans storming the court was not actually planned in the movie, the first time they filmed the scene Jimmy making the last second shot, Jimmy made the shot first try and the fans stormed the court when it was not supposed to happen, but this movie was filmed in 1985 so the fans didn’t cheer we if they were in 1954 so the directors loved the idea so they did the scene again, Jimmy made the shot and the fans stormed the court perfectly! Greatest movie ever.
Jason Dailey it’s up there. Brian’s Song, Bull Durham, Pride of the Yankees, North Dallas Forty, Rudy, The Natural, Field of Dreams all in the conversation.
I was 8 years old when this movie came out I'm from Indiana and I love basketball it's my passion not so much for high school but mostly college I've gotten to know some of the players and coaches who worked under mike Brey it's been un real that basketball because such a huge part of my life it's weird that I would become such a junkie this movie is great the story is wonderful I love it.
The team always says team except for the final scene when they saw the responsibility for the last shot was someone other than Jimmy. And that’s when a true leader steps and in and his words says “I’ll make it”. Brings me chills all the time. Even the coach had to change his tactic and agree. The mark of a true leader.
Oddly enough, the team Hickory was facing (South Bend Central High School) closed down in 1970! I'm from South Bend and its said that they just didnt have enough students. The building is an apartment in downtown now.
I’ll make it love the quote this movie is a great story it came out when I was 8 years old and basketball is my life I missed it so much last season. Due to Covid pandemic I can’t wait to go back this season. And I might hit one or two high school basketball games this fall we’ll see.
This is a great movie with pretty realistic basketball scenes. But I HATE it when movies cut away from the shot and show a close up of the hoop with the ball going in!! That's just cheezy!! Here the shot from behind Jimmy with the shot going in would have been much better!
The film has done such a great job in setting up all the characters and how they relate to each other that the last spoken line is "Come on. Let's go." There doesn't have to be any dialogue afterwards. We know what this means to everyone in the film and the small Indiana town.
Valainis (the actor who played Chitwood) was appearing in his first show (TV or movie). The scene where he is talking to Hackman while shooting outside was done in one take (he made every shot until the last one when Hackman basically said he didn't care if he played or not). There were two takes on the final shot of the championship game, and he made the shot both times. Valainis never played high school basketball (was cut from the team 3 times), but he definitely had a classic, technically sound shooting motion.
Good point never really noticed that before. Basketball Movies they make today dont come close to this and this will keep the 50's,60's basketball age alive forever...
Good gravy Hackman was amazing in this scene, just the way he looks at Jimmy. "I'll make it" Cue epic theme in the french horns. They don't make movies like this anymore.
This scene was filmed in the Hinkle Fieldhouse at Butler University in Indianapolis, and there was a HUGE callout for extras to fill the stands. They had to turn people away. There were more common people there in the stands for that scene that had actually been to an Indiana Final Four than I would guess you'll ever see in any movie. It was and is the greatest sports movie of all time, just as the Indiana HS Basketball Tourney was the greatest until it was ruined in 1998. HOOSIERS!!!!
The announcer in this movie reminds me of Jimmy Crum, a legendary basketball announcer in Ohio who did HS. and OSU basketball games from the 50's to 80's. R.I.P. Jimmy.
I was 8 years old when this movie was filmed im from Indianapolis indiana and there is nothing special then High School basketball and it's glory days I remember when it was Filmed and I remember going to some of the Gyms that where in this movie I think it's the greatest movie of all time and is Part of Indiana History because Hoosiers is the game of life when it comes to Indiana basketball....
This movie is now used in management and leadership seminars across the country. It is used to indentify and demonstrate situational leadership styles. At the begining the players have low ability and willingness so the coach applies the dictatorial style telling players what to do and how to do it. Then moves to the guiding role(low ability, high willingness) to supportive with Jimmy(High ability, low willingness) and in the final scene delegating(High ability and willingness) A Super movie.
This movie actually uses New Richmond to depict 1950s "Hickory", Indiana. Very few changes were needed to give the town a vintage look. That's part of the charm of Indiana.
Has anybody noticed that the American flag in the scene is not displayed correctly? The blue field, the "union", should be placed upper left whether the flag is displayed horizontally or vertically. Merely a small observation on "flag etiquette".
That's right! The tournament was ruined because Indiana went to the 'class' system in 1998. The Milan Miracle is the greatest basketball story, if not greatest sports story ever. When Milan won it over Muncie Central in 1954, the tournament was a free for all and EVERY high school team was thrown into the mix. It unfortunately wont ever happen again.
@mandy26lez Yes. Check out the scene early in the movie when Coach goes and talks to Jimmy while he's shooting hoops. Jimmy's making one after another...then Coach tells him he doesn't care if he plays....BRICK!!!
@mandy26lez Yes. Check out the scene early in the move when Coach goes and talks to Jimmy while he's shooting hoops. Jimmy's making one shot after another until Coach tells him he doesn't care if he plays for him. BRICK!!!! Took me prob 100+ times to finally catch it...

"I'll make it." Jimmy had the heart and will of a champion.
the BEST movie of all time. I get tears in my eyes every time I watch that ending.
every time
yes
what a movie!!!
I love this scene so much. The whole movie they had to learn to trust coach, and now here he had to learn to trust them. Sometimes it's time to stop coaching and let your players play.
I wonder if the coach was testing Chitwood...???
The inspirational soundtrack by the late Jerry Goldsmith is what really brings this film to the next level.
Andy, you fart? Sounds like a cheeseburger!
That's like the 100th time I've seen that and I still have to fight back the tears. And I'm a man. I'm 40.
You might have grandchildren already..
@@josequispe8241 If that's the case, I''m sure one of them is called Jimmy.
Jimmy Chitwood shot something like 97.8% for the movie. No wonder everyone wanted him playing!
And the real Chitwood, Bob Plump shot just 2 for 10 in the final game... but 1 for 1 when it really counted!
Jimmy Chitwood is greatest player ever in the history of Indiana basketball... ever.
@MUFC why not love both sports they’re both they’re different kind of art
The problem with Chitwood is he cant do a 360 alley-oop backboard breaking dunk
@@DonTrump-sv1sitodays game is all about the 3 ball. Chitwood would thrive

Gene Hackman was such a great actor I feel old most of the actors that I grew up watching are either retired or they passed on
Gene Hackman is the dad/grandfather we always wanted
Jerry Goldsmith deserved and Oscar for this moment.
Nominated he was. Though it was a crime Jerry won only _one_ Oscar his whole career
He was The GOAT.
Makes me cry every time I watch this!
Have to watch every year at March Madness time
Fun fact: The fans storming the court was not actually planned in the movie, the first time they filmed the scene Jimmy making the last second shot, Jimmy made the shot first try and the fans stormed the court when it was not supposed to happen, but this movie was filmed in 1985 so the fans didn’t cheer we if they were in 1954 so the directors loved the idea so they did the scene again, Jimmy made the shot and the fans stormed the court perfectly! Greatest movie ever.
"The Natural" and "Hoosiers," the two greatest sports films of all time.
Vision Quest is another great!
Remember the Titans
Rudy
Slapshot!!!
You might be right.. I like 'Invictus' too but Hoosiers will stay at number 1..
That celebratory jump after the shot will never get old.
Norman Dale went from being a total control freak at the beginning of the movie to letting his team design the final shot. Quite a character arc.
If you can’t watch this movie without a lump in your throat or a tear in your eye..you have no soul...this movie is beyond spectacular
Best sports movie ever made, hands down. Many may disagree here in the south, but they don't understand a Hoosier's love of the game.
Jason Dailey it’s up there. Brian’s Song, Bull Durham, Pride of the Yankees, North Dallas Forty, Rudy, The Natural, Field of Dreams all in the conversation.
Jason Dailey also Rocky and Raging Bull. And do you count On the Waterfront?
Great sounddtrack one of greatest films of all time
I was 8 years old when this movie came out I'm from Indiana and I love basketball it's my passion not so much for high school but mostly college I've gotten to know some of the players and coaches who worked under mike Brey it's been un real that basketball because such a huge part of my life it's weird that I would become such a junkie this movie is great the story is wonderful I love it.
It's beautiful the scene, very emotive
Trusting in your teammates to do their job is what team sports is all about..
the last 2 minutes are the BEST of the movie! so emotional! what a kickass ending
The team always says team except for the final scene when they saw the responsibility for the last shot was someone other than Jimmy. Is that for real?So sad.😢😭
If any of you coach, nothing is better than having a player who wants to take the last shot and confident enough to say they will make the shot.
I’ll make it love the quote this movie is a great story it came out when I was 8 years old and basketball is my life I missed it so much last season. Due to Covid pandemic I can’t wait to go back this season. And I might hit one or two high school basketball games this fall we’ll see.
"I'll make it", " Rudy, Rudy, Rudy" and my fave "Dad you want to have a catch?"
⚾️💥 "He did it! HOBBS DID IT!"

One of the best ever
every time cry every time BEST MOVIE EVER
Hoosiers. Rudy and Rocky. Three best of all time.
one of the best sports movies ever made.. period. Nothing but goose bumps with this scene!
great ending to what might be the best sports movie of alltime
Opposing coach at 2:34 "You guys were right, we should have double-teamed him. Sorry about that."
Great coaching too by stormin norman dale. You got larry bird on your team and he's not taking the last shot?
Not a sports fan. Not a basketball fan. But this is hands down, the greatest sports movie ever made, and one of the greatest movies ever made.

Everlasting moment
This movie is a stroll down my childhood
Wade Schenectady ( Ollie) was actually a very good high school basketball player and had to act like he was not very good for the movie
Good point never really noticed that before. Basketball Movies they make today dont come close to this and this will keep the 50's,60's basketball age alive forever...
one of the best movies ever!!
The defender forced him to his strong side. Took me several viewings to notice that...still the best sports movie of all time!
JC was like "oh you good? I'm just gonna pull up like you aren't here."
Love that ending!!!
I love this movie. Hoosiers is the best basketball movie ever.
Maybe they we're right about us! Maybe we don't belong here!...
What a great movie. Simply great
greatest sports movie ever. greatest last scene ever .
They also didn't curse in the movie. I think you have made my point for me. I rest my case..
Such a great movie.
Good gravy Hackman was amazing in this scene, just the way he looks at Jimmy.
"I'll make it"
Cue epic theme in the french horns.
They don't make movies like this anymore.
Jimmy Chitwood should be in the hall of fame
Jimmy Chitwood Is the G.O.A.T.

Dennis Hoppers reaction always gives me goosebumps
Music by Jerry Goldsmith.
The GOAT
Nobody could've played this role like Gene Hackman.
The late 80's had some great sports movies.
The Plump shot was from the same general area, but about 5 feet shorter.
miss movies with gene hackman
excellent taste.
The greatest sports movie ever made.
Score one, a REALLY big one, for the little guy !
IMO, this is THE best BB movie ever made !!
Jimmy Chitwood would have been a mega star in NBA.
I think he changed his name to "Jerry West" and did become quite a star
Legend.
best basketball movie ever
Greatest sports movie of all time
The movie plays more like a dream than an actual event.
Must see movie for all any athlete
This movie is really great.
I love!
Got this from google translator just in case you really wanted to know what the asian guy said
The Shot
OH HELL YEAH!!!!
Dale...
Looks at Jimmy
Waiting...
And wanting to see Jimmy commit...
The way champions do.
Winners Always Want the Ball
I'll make it coach. great line.

Best Sports movie ever....although Bobby Plump(The Real Jimmy Chitwood) would probably say it was a moment in his life he will never forget.

Still the greatest sports movie ever!
