The Pythons used to release 12" vinyl of their sketches. They are such anarchists that they put two tracks running side by side on what side of a record. So people listening would try to find their fave sketch then find sketches they had not heard.
Listening to Steve Coogan do the entire "Doug" sketch is a great pleasure in life.

Watching this reaction brought back memories of when I was in primary school in the early to mid 1970's. Our teacher, sadly can't remember her name, took us kids out into the playground to have a silly walk contest. I guess she got the idea from Monty Python. All the children took turns to walk up and down a straight line. Can't remember who was the winner. Maybe it should become an Olympic event 😀. All the very best, Trev from East London 👏👍.

The ‘Oh Bugger’ line was ad-libbed by Michael Palin, because he knew that they only had a few minutes left of filming before they had to stop and they wouldn’t have time to do a re-take and the BBC wouldn’t have allowed him to say it if he had originally suggested it beforehand.

What still amazes me is that at this point the creative juices were simply overflowing for all of them .. they had so many lunatic ideas that they kind of remodeled not just comedy but television too. The visual language is fantastic.
Terry Gilliam, the only American in the crew, and the animator of the cartoon sequences, played a few characters here and there, most notably one of the Spanish inquisition guys. He then went on to become perhaps the most original film director of all time. He was a huge part of the Monty Python experience.
The true geniuses of the group were John Cleese, Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin. It is insane in retrospect that so many talented people found each other working on the same show ... it is bonkers. There were several minor geniuses in there too like Eric Idle and one of my favorites.
    Cheers 🍺

If you know a fair amount about the Beatles, there are a couple of things involving Monty Python members to check out. As you probably know, George Harrison put up the money for the filming of The Life Of Brian when the original backers backed out. When the Concert For George happened in 2002, there was a Monty Python segment where various members of Python (not Cleese), plus Tom Hanks came out and did a couple of songs. Those songs, plus the 12 min. backstage segment from the DVD are on RUclips. The second one requires more Beatles knowledge to get the inside jokes (Maybe watch The Beatles Anthology first). Monty Python's Eric Idol and Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels put out 2 mockumentaries about a fictional band called the Rutles - All You Need Is Cash, and Can't Buy Me Lunch. Idol is the narrator/presenter, and Harrison has a cameo. These movies are filled with fake Beatles songs and musicians (eg.Jagger and Bowie) and actors being interviewed about the impact The Rutles had on their lives and careers. The John character is called Ron Nasty and is married to Chastity, an artist who is Hitler's daughter. If you know something about the Beatles history, you would probably enjoy those movies, which are also on RUclips.

John & Yoko were also supposed to guest in a Python sketch (don't say which one, shh!), but weren't able to make it, so Ringo Starr and Lulu filled in at the last minute.
Eric Idle also does a startling don't-blink Vox Pop appearance as John Lennon: "I'm starting a war for peace."

Great to see you back. Love your reactions. And very proud to say - in my loft I have THE yellow AA sign 'To The Sketch' from this episode. Dad worked on it, though a shame they didn't credit the location sound recordist on these episodes as they didn't in a lot of stuff made at the time. However he actually appeared in an episode when they turned the camera on the crew. In a silly sketch (well I never!) about making a documentary about people living on the street, they said "don't you go making a documentary about us..." etc. He's the chap in the light brown dufflecoat winding up the microphone cable on the left. Episode 17 part 7. Your next two episodes!!! Shame dad died way back in 1984 and we just lost mum too. Dad's on IMDb, though my brother and I are confused as to who made the entries as we didn't! Especially as some of them are incomplete. His name was Ron Blight. I love watching old episodes of stuff with his name in the credits - Going Straight (the spin off to Porridge) for example. Watch out for Ripping Yarns - a spin off of Monty Python. Dad did some of that too.

The Piranha Brothers were based on the real-life Kray Twins, who similarly controlled the criminal underworld of London in the 1960s, and despite their violent reputation were often respected by Londoners. They were eventually arrested by Detective Superintendant Leonard "Nipper" Read and given life sentences in prison, albeit for the rather more mundane crime of murdering the fellow gangster Jack McVitie.
The movie - Legend - from 2015 tells their "true story". Nipper died recently from Covid.
The reason this second season is better is because the best scetches are longer and more worked out.

For comedy, there's "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" which is hilarious. Another great (but subtle) comedy is "A Christmas Story," which talks about a little boy who desperately hopes to get a BB Rifle for Christmas. There's a cable channel in the US that plays that movie over and over again for 24 hours over Christmas! Finally there are two classic movies that not a lot of young people have seen... "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, and "Miracle on 34th Street" with Emund Gwenn as Santa Claus and Maureen O'Hara! Both of those movies are incredibly heart-warming, if you've never seen them before! Both of those movies were from 1946.

    Happy you're back!
I was afraid you just kept watching Monty Python and not recording anything. Wouldn't blame you...
Loved your anxiety over the It's man. It would have been extra sad if he didn't show up now when you have the same hair and everything. ;)

Adding to what everyone has said on many occasions, if you want to watch John Cleese doing silly walks, his walk in the Germans episode of Fawlty Towers is guaranteed to leave you in stitches, both the first time you watch it and all subsequent times.

I love seeing the show again through fresh eyes. (And I love a Scottish accent. More jabs at Scots to come in future sketches!)
When you’ve finished the series, might want to watch the Live at the Hollywood Bowl movie. There are sketches there not done anywhere else.

Yay!!!! Oh I'm so happy to see you finally get to see these two episodes, two of my favorites!!!! I'm just like you, I love the Terry Gilliam animated bits, they always make me laugh. I'm particularly happy you got to see the end of the Spanish Inquisition episode, which was not included in the clip you first reacted to! I love your channel, and I am loving being on your Monty Python journey! PS: Your family is beautiful also! I watched the video about Scottish food (which made me hungry!) and I plan to watch more of those, "Scottish Words To Know" is probably the next one on my list. :)

If you're doing British TV comedy episodes, you HAVE to check out Red Dwarf, especially episodes "Backwards-S3E1", "The Last Day-S3E6" and "Pete Part II- S8E7"

IF you wanna see REALLY silly...watch "Faulty Towers" the episode "the germans" and Cleese does an excellent silly goose step.
