Man, I love the wicca group in Tara's first scene. It's such a good way of showing really ugly, passive-aggressive girl dynamics. Forcing the spotlight on a shy person so they'll buckle under it and go quiet - and STAY quiet. I don't know why, but that scene always stuck with me.
LOVE THIS. It's hilarious to me to rewatch the very second scene when they're together gripping hands and staring at each other. Everyone is like "it came out of NOWHERE that they were attracted to each other! They were just friends!" 😂😂😂😂 You couldn't cut that sexual tension with a scythe.
When it was finally straight out said that they were in a lesbian relationship, and someone mentioned the surprise of that, Joss asked "where have you been the last 5 episodes". Admittedly I didn't really know until the "I am you know...... Yours" line. I mean I'd caught some lesbian undertones before that, but I caught some between Buffy and Faith too, and that didn't mean anything.
8:25 Imagine how different things could have been if Tara hadn't sabotaged that spell. She could have found out so much earlier that she wasn't a demon!
Elissa Rol Because at that point she really believed she was a demon and thought that if Willow knew that she’d be repulsed or try to kill her or something
I know it is a thing that he does as a writer, but it is also a thing that happens in your life. Tara is one of the best characters in the entire series, both shows. Her death was so unexpected and tragic, but that is how it too sadly happens in real life.
Kind of. I mean from a writing perspective the reason is arguably that her character arc is complete. She has no inner conflict or demons left to conquer and that makes her a less rewarding character to work with at that point. They had to either find some way to remove her from the story/massively reduce her role _or_ come up with some new inner conflict for her to have, but that last option is honestly fairly problematic for a number of reasons. It was the same with Cordelia in Angel, and arguably with Fred. Tara has always been stable and extremely emotionally mature. Once she steps out under Willow‘s shadow, there‘s no inner conflict left for her; you might say her character has ascended to a higher plane, so it has to leave the plane of the other characters or become a liability. Probably still not what I would have done, but for Whedon and gang it makes sense to advance their story.
When I was younger most girls played with dolls, but my older sister made me play buffy the vampire slayer with her 😂 she always made me play as Willow whilst she was Buffy 😂
@@YunjinsChair Why? Liking Buffy the Vampire Slayer doesn't make you gay. There's loads of straight romances (admittedly few go well), and she played as Buffy to boot.
Acording to the youtuber Passion of the Nerd , the magic they do together is a methaphor for lesbian sex, and they had to come up with this as subtext because the 90s TV couldn't show lesbians.
There's even a Scene where xander says "Sometimes i think about two women doing a spell and then i do a spell myself". So yeah, it definitely was and they were not subtle about it
I read this like lawn mower and now I have an image of willow with and army of magic lawn mowers floating behind her and I may never fully recover from this joy
My headcanon is Tara survived Season 6, then was part of Season 7, and when Kennedy tried to come onto Willow both she and Tara teach the brat a lesson. Tara also accompanies Willow in Angel 4x15 so they save Cordelia from Jasmine as well, then in Buffy 7x19 Tara diffuses the argument between Buffy and the rest before it gets too bad, and after Sunnydale and the First are done for, Willow proposes and Tara accepts. The end. That's what happened for me, not the last few minutes of 'Seeing Red'.
Tara is usually Shy, but in her interactions with Willow, she is oddly confident or at least a bit more asseritve than Willow whom clearly sounds confused...she can tell something is going on, but not the "what" is going on exactly. Tara is clearly wanting to get in Willow's pants though.
Say what You need to. The issue I have here- If any, Is that Willow Did not set healthy boundaries and or expectations When Using and Practicing. Magic Is A Frequency- a “wild child” of sorts- When boundaries are not met or implemented It Can truly live through Your eyes- Living Out Your Subconscious. You’ve got to set Healthy Boundaries while practicing.
It's funny, but everybody focuses on Willow and Tara as the example of gay expression in the show, but in the writing there was also a light pairing of Buffy and Faith; more playful than anything else. But a much less light treatment (more obvious) came from Forrest towards Riley. Forrest had it bad for Riley and nobody seems to remember this; TOO "gay", I suppose.
Well that one‘s well-hidden by cultural preconceptions. Just like the maleXmale relationship in Pearl Harbor. Army guys can‘t be gay, everyone knows that. And since they know this they can‘t see it.
Katie Eighmy She thought she herself was a demon and did not want willow to find out. In a later episode she tires to do a spell to hide her "demon" side from willow and her friend which goes wrong and they can't see any demons. Tara's family is there trying to bring her home as she's a "dangerous demon". It turns out it's a rouse from the men of the family to keep the women in the family under control. Presumably due to them having magic.
