Pushing celebrities to speak out isn’t always futile. Think of how quick the White House was to call for legislation on ai fakes as soon as Taylor swift was affected. The goal wasn’t to have celebrities mindlessly voice their support. It was for celebrities to be forced to inform themselves then utilize their platform to spread that information to millions. It’s not like people stopped their activism after blocking celebrities. Plenty of people were writing to their government and linking donations to Palestine victims at the same time. Multi tasking is not a lost art form. Also, with a trend as simple as blocking celebrities came in tandem with spreading awareness on Palestine. It was a very digestible way to include people in Palestine efforts.
Old in the music industry and old in real life aren't the same thing. As a 35-year-old, I felt some type of way at the beginning of this video. I had to take everything in proper context.
Hell nah. If you can't grow your own fanbase that's not the fault of the older artists. STEP YOUR GAME UP GEN Z. Ageism is not the answer. And It's often the older women that are targeted the most for whataver reason (cough cough misogyny). MJ was still MJ in the Usher and Justin Timberlake era. Madonna was still Madonna in the Britney and Christina era as well. Make your own path and build your own fanbase instead of expecting everything to be handed to you including the fanbase of veteran acts
Yeah but MJ and Madonna both transitioned into "older sounding" music as they aged. They remained relevant to the younger public, but had pretty much carved their own niche at that point. At the moment, you have artists like Beyoncé, Usher, Kelly Clarkson & the likes doing more or less the same thing. They still drop music, but their sound have grown into their own entities. On the other hand, people like Drake and Nicki are straight up phagocyting newer artists by always desperately trying to keep up with the new trends, presenting the same way newer artists do, and inserting themselves in every single popular newcomer's career. And let's be honest, they're not putting out better music than the new acts. They just get away with mediocre more easily because they have established fanbases to push them. So yeah, older artists should let newer ones have their shine, because not being willing to do so just keeps them stagnating.
@@skayles4716 I hear what you're saying and I agree with majority. The goal is to pass the baton but you must earn your spot on the team. The older artists you named make age appropriate music or have a decent balance. However, there are ppl afraid of getting older, such as the other artists you named. I believe this video speaks to the older artists that refuse to grow up and mature so they become energy vampires and target the youth which is disgusting to me honestly. You must be ready, which younger artist is ready to take over for years to come? If you pass the baton to a person that isn't ready and didn't earn it, they'll let it slip through their hands bcuz they don't see the importance of holding it. You can't rely on youth being the main argument, the talent and effort must match. I would love to champion a newer younger artist but they sound too much alike.
@@sknatheartist I totally agree with the youth needing to display talent and effort ! Issue is, there are areas where they just don't have the space to do so because of older acts vampirizing them. If Ariana Grande gets featured on Espresso, and then releases a Short'n'Sweet-ish sounding album, then we don't have Sabrina reaching into mainstream, because she gets overshadowed. What we do get however, is a mediocre uninspired Ariana album.
@@skayles4716 we have to drive a stake in these energy suckers and create a non predatory musical environment for the youth to thrive. I believe there’s room for everyone, when you mature so should your works. Too much separation in the world, the ism’s (racism, capitalism, ageism…) are destroying us.
Why do older artists have to retire they have as much rights or more to stay around since the younger artists don't have the talent or the music to replace the older artists think about it 🤔
@alkahinat4558 it's alot of ageism when it comes to young people nowadays years ago that wouldn't happen as long as the music was good that use too be the focus but now as soon as a artists is close to 40 they need to go away 😅which is completely ridiculous & the sad part is if the newer artists was equally as good or surpassing the older artists with their music nobody wouldn't have a problem but it's nothing but copycat artists and mediocre sounding music
Yeah, Like At the moment, many UK-Eu Artists are Mimicking Younger Gen X-Older Millennial Trends of the Early 2000s and Late 90s (1994-99'). They are also obsessed with the 80's now too, instead of focusing on their sound, and moving away from trap sounds. Which lack so much in the sound category; it's simple sounding. (Not K-pop, Because they're working with Gen-X and Millennial artists to perfect their sound, example JUNGKOOK/BTS, NewJEANS, etc. All while respecting the people who pioneered.) Gen-Z also have this thing where, "Doing too much" is embarrassing? Or cringe? (cringe culture killed creativity for gen z as well) to the point, Lola Brooke added dancing to her music at a B.E.T Awards show and people pointed out "She's doing too much, it looks too organized, she looks way too uptight with her dancing, why everyone need to dance?" The Fear of being upstaged, or the fear of being judged, is killing creativity too. Dancing is art, just as much as music is. Rappers dancing, is not a bad thing; it's a good thing, we are moving forward and progressing. Sorry it this is all over the place, My ADHD-Autistic brain kicked over-drive xD
Most the "oldheads" are still in higher demand than the newer artists cuz the newer artists dont have the appeal to replace them. there are some extremely talented newer artists, but most have no originality or anything special about them. alot of the young ones with an appeal (Sabrina, Chappel Roan, etc) do ok. they also put in the years of work tho. like you said alot of the new ones just work a few years and quit or redirect. tbh most artists arent even ready to be unvailed to the public until after 25, they are rushed in with n tools so they dont have any chance to compete with the established artists and they dont have the passion or commitment to stick with it like Chappell and Sabrina did
like we see it as wild when someone like Nicki blows up at 27 or eminem at 26, but in reality 26-28 is when a mainstream career should truly begin. only a fraction of artists are gonna have any staying power if they are thrust i the game at 22 years old and barely any experience in their field. people under 30 are more creative and open minded on average, but people under 25 lack the skills needed to survive. that 26-29 range is when an artist should be the best of both worlds. not out of touch but not inexperienced or amatuer either
Gen Z probably has the wackest and most forgettable artists is music history, it's extraordinary. When you got artists in their mid late 30s and up outselling you and people that passed away still being talked about more than the hot and trendy, you truly failed the Gen Z and Gen Alpha
Gen Z is wild…this thinking is a result of all those participation trophies that were given out. If Gen Z wants a pop star support your people. The industry is making less money now and will continue to push what they know works. Get in the booth, the dance studio, get media training and learn and perfect your craft. More work, less complaints. Also this is an easier time to become a star, social gives Gen Z access that millennial and Gen X stars didn’t have.
@@maccoogid4433 This is what I mean, Gen-Z needs to understand that OLDER and YOUNGER is a thing in the Generation. What I mean is, Older Millennials and Younger Millennials exist. I'm considered a Young Millennial, Beyoncé is considered Older. It's a wild concept I had to wrap my head around, Younger Gen-X and Older exist too. Same with Boomers, and Silent Gen, and will be the same with Alpha. There are layers to Generations. Because there are in between, crossovers of people who experienced Both Generations Moving on-to the next millennium (Millennials name came from this word).
If the old heads have to move aside for the new artists to thrive then maybe the new generation just doesn't have the star power...they should work on that🙃
Good afternoon: No they don't. The newbies need to get it together, get better at they're music. And stop playing it safe & get out there comfort zone. If they stop playing it safe and become different. Ppl most likely will be interested in their music. You need ppl to love you. These newbies & wannabes got alot of ppl hating them. And their music. Nowadayz current music is declining cuz of the repetitive & copying. Music isn't authentic & original. It was wayyyyy different with the ole skool artist. Ppl loved that music. Now ppl don't wanna hear this corny, boring & dull music. Ole skool artists do not need to move over. In conclusion these newbies need to get it together. Good day..!!
How about you retire and let the new RUclipsrs be more present! Beyonce isn’t going anywhere! I grew up listening to her and would be devastated if she just stop making music and preforming. These new artists can’t live up to our expectations: vocally (no), performance (no), creativity (no)! I have no connection to a person who makes music to go viral or to become a TikTok dance, I’d rather music with meaning!
Music belongs to no one! It is boundless! Certainly not age! Do you really think older artists have to sit down so younger artists can claim an imaginary crown? Absolutely not! Younger artists just have to work as hard and make the connections as much as older artists HAD TO DO when they were young! You'd think that with social media, younger artists would be out doing older artists, but they're missing something! Authenticity! Real charisma! And most of all, GOOD MUSIC! So many commentators are calling recent album, mixtapes, and EP"s flops! Why? The market is over saturated with young artists sounding like each other! Their music is boring, and the FANS are not responding to it! It is the fans/listeners who drive the market no matter what record companies push out in front! Younger artists need to step it up! PERIOD!
I understand what you’re saying but we are also realizing life is not that short. 26-39 is still early adulthood 40-49 is early middle age I just think a lot of 20-24 year olds (very young adults) are waiting or putting in the work to get where they are like chapel roan and Sabrina who are also in their MID 20s lol
Thank you, you are pretty much the only person I’ve read online recently who has any sense of time and age that’s accurate & not just like… The Sims?? For me, I feel it’s a very positive thing (especially for women) that artists can have multi-decade careers now- I mean even typing that sounds nuts. Not to mention covid was disastrous on young artists who’d been building their career in their local live music scene & participating in the community/actually developing their skills in the traditional way which frankly used to be the only way you’d even be worth watching. … not practicing as a band for instance killed most of the bands I knew locally. Ones that were legitimately touring / releasing music and were starting to do well. The venues are suffering as well, there’s less opportunities for talent to be nurtured & seen because now even support slots for gigs aren’t always available to younger acts lmao I feel like the ageing discourse online is super duper delusional & really needs to be stopped.
You forget that many of the older artists of the past were forced out of the industry. Back then an artist did not have a lot of power and could not directly connect with their fans without the media and they couldn't get their music out their without the company. It was all one big conglomerate where the artist was at the behest of the machine. No matter how famous an actor was by a certain age they would be told that they were "washed-up" but then social media happened. If social media had existed back then many celebrities who still had more to give could not have been prematurely pushed out. Another thing, the younger generation of that time was more talented and unique and spent more time developing their talents than today's new kids.
I don’t think legacy artists need to retire but if the music is ass (Katy Perry, Kanye West, etc.) then it’s time to hang it up. I’d rather see an icon bow out gracefully than watch them painfully & sometimes even embarrassingly try to stay on top.
No one tells people to stop being millionaires the older they get. The blackout celebs was so dumb. Being older isn’t a curse. I feel like you have more of a story the older you get. You’re in your prime.
Honestly, I think it's really cool to see "older" artists still having a mainstay in music. I think one thing that contributes to this, is their artistic progression. We've seen them change and deliver something different time after time. They've had the time to establish a loyal fanbase. The real reason though, I think one is just talent development. I have noticed the older generations definitely worked at their craft a lot more than the "younger" gens do. And it shows. Labels used to do A&R, these days they don't. They used to invest in their artists before they debuted. These days they don't. Everyone can rip on K-Pop all you want, but they do put their artists through singing lessons, dance lessons. They make them practice. They develop them. And honestly, it shows. With all that said, we do have alot of talented younger artists who eat every time you see them.
The new generation must embrace the spirit of competition and demonstrate their talents through quality work. Without a strong drive to excel, the old guard will continue to dominate, and rightly so. The veterans have honed their craft and understand the essence of what makes music truly resonate. Why should they step aside? In a world driven by money, their continued work is necessary-not just for themselves as they age, but also to secure their families' futures and ensure they leave a lasting legacy. If gen z or gen alpha aspires to surpass these seasoned artists and introduce a fresh, powerful sound or innovative artistry, they must be prepared to work harder, break the mold, and build their own brands and empires. Look at artists like Nicki Minaj, who broke through the male-dominated rap game with her unique style, larger-than-life persona, and relentless work ethic, redefining the genre in her own image. Thats y she will continue reigning over the new rap girlies who to be honest r just meh imo. Or consider Beyoncé, who redefined pop and R&B; Drake, who fused genres and expanded hip-hop’s reach; Rihanna, who became a global pop icon while also launching a beauty empire; and Justin Bieber, who skyrocketed from a RUclips sensation to a global pop star, consistently evolving his sound and staying relevant. These artists didn't just compete-they redefined the landscape and set new standards. We aint gonna just give maximum praise to the new gen if all they want is to release half baked products. 🥂
Gen Z is more worried about doing tiktok videos and making music for those tiktok videos = horrible music If you can't cook something good, then step out of the kitchen and let those seasoned chef cook wonderful things for us. I would rather have Janet Jackson making new music than having Gen Z feed us toxic waste.
I think what's happening right now is the culmination of young artists catering to the young, TikTok audience with short attention spans regardless of the quality of their music (looking at you, Ice Spice). Most of the music made by the young generation are so poor in lyrics, vocals, performance, and creativity that I'd rather listen to the music of the old and even dead that's great, timeless and clearly crafted with effort and passion.
Don't blame y'all's GenZ artist failures on millennials 😂 TF...plus, keep on living! Keep on breathing! That's all you gotta do to "age". And you better be glad you do cuz the alternative is....gen z is really obsessed with age (or trying to stop it), making yall look older. Yall weird
The old heads was picked during and era when they needed TALENT!! This generation simply doesn’t have it not all but most!!! I can’t blame this generation tho because they don’t want a stressful life and protecting their mental health.
The problem is young ppl (gen z) aren't as talented and don't have the same level of musicianship as the millennials. Old is gold. Just because you're young, doesn't make you better. 😅
Good evening: Seems like it's gonna stay that way unless they do something to elevate their music. Unfortunately I don't see anything happening anytime soon. Which is sad. Goodnight 💤 💤 💤 😊
Gen Z musicians removed the bridge and made average song lengths less than 2 minutes. It won’t have longevity and it won’t be considered timeless. However, artists like Chappell Roan seem to bringing that back and maybe other artists will be inspired and follow.
No one is more obsessed with Millennials than Gen Z / Gen Alpha. The new Generations keep reaching back into Millennial culture for many things. They simply fail to produce their own Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, One Direction etc. I went to a Taylor Swift & Harry Styles concert and it was FULL of teenagers. I was confused. These are millennial artists, double the age of their fans. Why are they there? Many of Taylors songs are from 2007. A girl asked me my age, I told her I’m 28 and she said “that’s so old” Like girl, you weren’t even born when she released her first album. Taylor Swift is in her 30s. When we were teenagers most of us were obsessed with people our own age. Justin Bieber, One Direction, Taylor Swift, Rihanna etc. they were never replaced. This even translates into the celebrity culture. The celebrities most young people look up to are millennials. Same with TV shows, I see teenagers watching Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls. I see girls obsessing over books from 2008. It’s all been done. I don’t understand what’s so appealing to them about millennial culture. They seem to have very little interest in what their own generation creates.
You forgot annoying, repetitive, lame, phony, ridiculous, stupid uninteresting. I think I said everything. But I definitely agree with you. Which why I listen to alot of 90's & early 2000's music 🎶....!!
tbh it used to be the success of the new generation that overshadowed the older generation and led them to retire, not the older generation just giving way for them. I just feel like a lot of the new gen suffer from mass production and very little or no artist development, labels and social media is pumping out alot of people who don’t have much staying power. The issue also stems back to when the labels stopped looking for raw talent to develop and started chasing viral people. The demise of A&R is the reason why people adamantly stick to the old gen rather than embrace the new gen, plus it’s harder building a geniune authentic artist as people are more aware and can somewhat pick an artist with geniune identity and one that is a replica of what the label wants Also the new gen don’t seem or feel like they want it as much as the old gen did
I am so thankful to see all the millenial support in the comments because gen zoo really be trying it! I think after all the years of cringe z calling the 30+ year olds “old” it’s catching up to them and now gen z is pushing 30 themselves! Karmas a bitch you shoulda known better.
I think the newer gen some of them, at least… have the right idea to take inspiration from older generations but they're not executing it in a good way lol, A for effort but sometimes it sounds like they're just trying a little to hard to rlly get the 'y2k'-ish sound. Though when done right it can be good :)
I feel like this video was trying to blame older artists for the lack of new, young talent, when the real issue is that thanks to social media everyone is trying to be a superstar overnite, regardless of actual talent. On top of that, the younger kids just aren't putting in the work, with these lazy, inconsistent performances. Record companies aren't investing in artists like they used to, with singing/dancing lessons, media and image training, how to interview, etc. We keep seeing artists today act a fool and not managing their image in a way that enhances their persona. TL;DR: younger artists need to fire up and work harder
Here is a Summary for people who "don't want to read all of that." Be kind, don't spread ageism to better your generation because you are also inadvertently going to cause problems for yourself in the end. We have too much ism's to begin with. However, yes, date the same age, or be cautious of LARGE dating age gaps since there are older people and younger people who will take advantage of the age difference and different mindsets of different Generations will clash. All Generations can make beautiful things like Music and art happen, but we really need to tackle Ageism before it grows to become a behemoth. It's discriminatory behavior to just tell a whole generation of people who helped music be the way it is, to just (disappear). I do agree with you on how Younger Gen Z needs to be on the charts just as much as old heads, the problem is how you executed it. I've been noticing how Younger Gen z has been heavily pushing forward Ageism. Due to the fact they are in fear of aging, as well as the fact, for some reason they have this undying hatred towards Millennials that mirrors boomers energy in many ways. 1. Due to the push for Same Age Dating and less gap dating because we really hate pedophilia. Also, There are people who find age gaps alright as long as you both are adults, like me, if I'm 30, I can date a 28 year old or 33 year old. But realistically this can be hard to do since there are no spaces where we can just pick and choose mofos who love us in this age range. It'd hard. 2. Younger Gen Z, from the start of all the Generational Wars, DID NOT know or even understand that Generations have gaps too. A good example of this is how Generation Z, Mistaken Older Millennial's to be their parents. While this may be true depending on how young they had you. (Older Millennials) usually it's Gen-x that most definitely raised you, as well as Generation Boomer. For Millennials, it was Older Gen X, Younger Baby Boomers. Generation Alpha exist, before them is Gen Z; but in Gen-Z is Younger Gen-Z and Older Gen-Z, Before Older Gen-Z are Millennials, Younger Millennials and Older Millennials, this is where things get dicey, Gen-Z Puts: 3. The economical Damages on Generational Millennials, when Millennials have been said the damages were started by the Boomers, not even Gen-X could reverse said affects. (Regan.) But the hated for Millennials being so OLD and just unfunny to Gen-Z was more important, than political knowledge on Tiktok (because twitter is dead now, everyone moved to tiktok or insta.) They will just flame you on your culture. 4. Millennials also have to understand we were kind of like Gen-Z at some point too; we mocked how Gen-X/Baby Boomers/Silent Generation was as well, their culture, style, etc. 5. Fear of getting OLD, and that's a huge factor in Also Misogyny towards women. Women felt this, ahead of time, it's only getting worse no due to the fact Gen-Z wants to stay youthful forever, so much so, they're calling Younger Millennial's and Older Millennials Aunties/Uncles and Grandmother's/Grandpas just to spite them having fun on social media. If a Millennial is seen doing any type of old school anything, they're lame, but when Gen-Z do it, it's revolutionary. If Millennials do Gen-Z content, TikTok dances, they're either "trying to stay relevant." or "need to move aside for Gen-Z" which was never an issue for Millennials, and Gen-X. If Younger Gen-X/ Older Millennials and Younger/Older Millennials were able to coincide; just like Boomers and Gen-X did (both old and younger) even though they had their scuffles with generational wars due to the lack of attention towards political awareness. This is how we had so much Beautiful freaking music, Awesome shows because we found ways to work with other generations; and had mixed age groups. The downside? Ageism, was a problem as old as time, and also Pedophilia. Many younger Artists had help with musical success behind the scenes from MANY influences, like Michael Jackson (Gen-X'er) was influenced by (Baby Boomer) James Brown, and I'm sure James Brown was influenced by someone in the Silent Gen. They most likely too inspiration; and did not disrespect their legacy, which sadly many rappers nowadays love doing just to spite Millennials and now Gen X. Which encourages ageism where you like to think it is or not, because it definitely is okaying the behavior. I listen to Halle x Chloe (Gen Z Artists.) but also Solange (Millennia artist.) And even Beyoncé (Millennial) Who are all beautiful artists who can transcend younger Generational barriers. They're not very much respected by Boomers unless the boomers have a very "Pro" mindset; rather than conservative. Then you can best believe they will tear down your favs like this video is also doing. Which is sadly why Gen-Z has the whole nickname "Baby boomer Revival" which understandably is not taken well by Gen-Z. But with the hatred towards Millennials, Mockery of their generation growing up, but also Idolizing it at the same time. The Hatred for their artists, just to uplift their own. (it reminds me of how Fans uplift their favs by bringing down others, which was always a thing but only gain popularity around Younger Millennials/Gen-Z's time) 6. It's easy to just be mean and a hater, then put in the energy to be nice or "fake it." Note, Nice and Kind are two different things. "Nice" generally referring to polite or pleasant behavior, while "kind" implies a deeper level of caring and taking action to help others, even if it requires more effort than just being polite. 7. Respectability politics are dying, but along with it, we are seeing an uprise in Gen-Alpha cussing out their elders. Which Older Gen-Z/Millennials/Gen-X would have gotten they ass handed and sent over to god himself. Though, it's great to see change from physical whooping, and also a great change in young grain respect by also being kind to others but... (Millennials to Gen Alpha) Adults have to raise their kids to show respect to everyone. I respect the idea of Gen-Z coming into the music industry and just slaying, killing it and all; however, to kick ALL Generations to the side for one generation is Outrageous and discriminatory. This reply, is not in bad faith; but a hope we can all live and WORK together to make great memories instead of being cut-throat towards each other.
Um I don't necessarily agree with how you label an oldhead like imo your not an oldhead in the industry until your 40 but regardless loved this video and agreed with many of your points 🥰
When you make music easily accessible, you basically make older artists more popular because people want nostalgia. It’s a good thing too because it means anyone can be played now instead of just the young people.
I do think it’s interesting to think about just how young some of these established artists were when they blew up as well. Bey was 18 when she had her first no. 1 with DC & 21 when she had her first solo no. 1, Rihanna was 17 and Taylor was 22. I’m not saying that it is necessarily healthy for people to blow up at such a young age, but like it does seem to be taking a much longer time for artists to blow up to similar heights. We do have next gen artists like Billie, Olivia, Sabrina, lil Nas X, Jack Harlow, but like, they are definitely in the shadow of older artists in a way that those older artists weren’t when they were that age.
I don’t think the younger generation study and practice enough which is why they aren’t good. It’s more likely the “new “ pop stars will be millennials who have been grinding but just didn’t get fame : IE Victoria shaboozey muni long
Even in rap the older rappers like Kanye West Eminem and Drake are still topping the charts and sales. particularly Kanye who is approaching 50 even with him falling off somewhat is still selling more than the newer rappers.HIS vULTURES 1 project is the third highest Selling rap album this year and got number one single.
Love the video but personally I feel like you should have included JADE she’s doing good in streams and RUclips views more and more ppl are discovering her and her music and background it’s exciting to see that’s my personal pick and I agree with the first 2 artists to watch but JADE is my pick though for artist to watch 2024-2025 she literally building her fan base as a solo artist and needs her breakthrough in america something her group Little Mix failed to make a breakthrough in America she has a chance to do it as a solo artist pop music in America would love and support Jade if they push her in America start building her American audience by booking meeting greet here and big collaborations with popular artists and performances on American tv shows, talks shows, late night shows awards shows like vmas and billboard music awards and even Grammys and podcasts and snl etc big interviews in America get to know her she has the makings of being a main pop star and main pop girl she can sing she can dance has stunning visuals unique fashion and has a sound and style and aesthetic JADE has potential everything just needs to work in her favor I can see running pop genre giving new life with her style of pop music and her taking risks bring new ideas and perspective to pop music and can make it exciting and her voice is versatile she can do pop bangers and ballads , reggae, r&b , alternative, rock her potential is limitless she She is what pop music is missing she just needs that American push were the holy grail of the music industry once you make in America as a artist you made it but she very very very talented has what we need from pop music can become a main pop girlie and can run the genre alongside the other girls Don be do a video on JADE from little mix in the future and check out her music
Yeah, this ain’t it. Gen Z just isn’t putting in the effort or stepping out of the box; they're still trying to be like their older peers than themselves, plus they're lacking talent. Most importantly, people only care about looks nowadays.
Social media helps the older artist stay relevant now a days than the past where the record labels could keep artist who were not young fade into history.
I've only just started, but in music and entertainment history, there hasn't been such a significant presence of young adults before. As a millennial, there wasn't much representation of young adults in media; most were older than us. Now, Gen Z musicians and entertainers may not all be at pop star level yet, but they certainly have a stronger presence and influence compared to previous generations.
I love how everyone under here didn't listen to the actual message of the video and just jumped to "Hell no!" The man isn't encourgaing you to stop listening, supporting or loving your fav old heads, NO. He's saying thigns have to change and its the natural order fo the world for everything to move forward and that the new generation has to step up and take inspiration from the older generation. He isnt insulting your fav at all. Aging is a blessing and we will all age. Oldies can and are shining right now and allways will but the younger generation should be doing their best to also shine.
If a person thinks that he meant what you said, then that just tells you they were paying attention & didn't understand the actual message. But I agree with you.
There's Gen X still waiting for Boomers to do the retire from working part of retirement so they can get promoted to something that pays a living wage, and here we are with Gen Z crying that 'older' acts like Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga (practically kids themselves, compared to my generation) to step aside. Meanwhile, I just found Yaelokre (not pop, I know) and they are killing it. I'm not sure if they are Gen Z or Gen Alpha, but they are doing what the rest of every industry has had to do, which is carve out their own place. But YOU want it handed to you on a silver platter, YOU want everyone else to do all the work for you. If you flop, it's your own fault, not the fault of older generations.
It’s cause the industry is oversaturared with new acts, record labels don’t want to take risks with them. But legendary acts are guaranteed money. But hopefully the revolution is coming
The fact that the old artists are winning over the young, I’d say blame the music industry. They choose who they push to the forefront. The problem is they want the sure thing that will give them money, in this case the old artists who run on nostalgia) and NOT gamble their money on a new artist who doesn’t have a following on TikTok or has enough of a following to return on their investment. The public will consume whatever is push 99.9 percent of the time.
The industry is impossible right now unless you step in already famous, or rich, or super connected, or all of it together. There are a ton of amazing young talented people but they are all regional, on bandcamp, etc. If you want young kids wirh super fame hit up Disney for their puppy mill.
One thing I've noticed is that newer musicians try to make records that are only meant for tiktok sounds so they don't find much success other than the viral hit. The one hit chorus is only the part they are known for while older musicians make hits where you could listen to any part of the song and still could enjoy the record
Not the older gens fault they got they A&R. Not the older gens fault they got the benefit of failing and not having the whole world know 2 seconds later. They also put the work in, years, they got their 10000 hours before you ever heard of them. Just because the young ones think a big social media presence means that will turn into something is a personal problem and a lie. Creating songs with no bridges and 2 minutes long, those are interludes, not songs. Having a brand that 70% being realiable and 30% talent is a problem. I dont want a singer to be relatable i want fantastic, omg did you see/hear that, jaw on the floor. Not the older gen problem that the only thing the young gens have going for them is their fine tuned personality they show on lives Stepping aside and giving people opportunities they aren't ready for gives you people like Raygun.
Jesus Christ didn't make an impact until he turned 30! Lol! Anyways, I think because the music industry isn't filtered anymore ( anyone can be a popstar) is the reason it's harder for younger acts .Plus, didn't Nicki kinda give ice spice the "princess" title ( like her being the successor) in the "princess Dianna " song then ice dropped the ball?!
Stupid bs, music and art had no age limits. This agist bs needs to retire. If u don't wanna see the older acts don't watch them and support younger acts instead of being bitter and prejudice
if it allows for much better music from experience.... but so much is like they're stuck at 4 year's skill level.... so much of them aren't using their established names to do cool, different or bigger things. so many have turned it into a 9-5
I appreciate the time & effort put into the video. However … I don’t necessarily agree with your point. !! I’d say some Gen Z pop artists are doing just fine, like Chappell Roan for instance. She’s huge right now. There’s definitely other artists, but the fact of the matter is: a lot of these Gen Z artists aren’t good. That’s up to them to release music that sticks, other artists shouldn’t be retiring. However, I can kind of understand your point, so thank you for the video.
The older artists are just better. Deal with it. Gen Z are generally boring ppl in general tbh lol. And “old” isn’t really old anymore. Most 40 yo ppl look 30. Pharrell said it himself. You’re not old until ya look it.
The "older artists" aren't being "pushed more" than the newer artists. They have spent years cultivating their fandoms and have given us multiple reasons to check in to see what they're up to even if they haven't released in a while because we know they will give us the full experience. They are still relevant BECAUSE they are older, not in-spite of their age. Greatness comes with practice and experience, if you want your new girlies to be better - Tell them to DO better!
Goodmorning: These dayz we need the old heads for great music. Even if it's a old song. To me songz don't age. They know what to do & what not to do. And how to do it. There music is amazing. Seems like young ones & newbies are screwing up music. If not music, they screwing up something. Why ppl always want somebody to be activists or something...?? If they don't support these ppl or countries, then move on. Do you & let them do them. Your fanbase only elevates if you get better at what you're doing or if your work gets better. That's just me. And I truly don't see that happening anytime soon. Seeing how music is so repetitive & stupid. Great video, have a great day...!!
Give it some time and will happen. As a fan of two gen Xers acts. I can tell you sooner or later old acts are replaced by new ones, you are just hurrying it up my friend. The artists you think are in the age of being replaced they are not there yet give them to 45 and Gen Z will stop caring about them. Remember how gen X artists and bands could still go toe to toe against millennials in the early 2000s and stayed relevant till early 2010s. It’s the same here. It’s just now the millennials who are the seasoned beloved artists with a fan base already established. As we would say in Spanish dale tiempo al tiempo.
I think it’s just that new music kinda sucks and new artists don’t really try to make something special or meaningful anymore, but rather they try to create whatever is currently “trending” so it all kinda sounds the same and meh
No. old acts r better, the new acts have their spotlight but their still not that good. They need to step it up and why do people care so much about age in music like wth.
From what I see, people's attention is way too hard to catch these days. It's like they don't want originality unless they want to show that they'd love to choose originality over bs, but it's whatever external forces forcing bs down their throats. I'm gonna give you a pattern I've seen in all the present pop girlies blowing now. So, I'm 100 percent sure Brats would have tanked, or enjoyed by Charli's diehard, niche fans if the big popstars such as Taylor or Beyonce dropped a single, let alone an album alongside Brat, and I'll tell you this; the big pop girlies would still put out washed up albums solidifying their already existing image, fo example, Taylor would drop another lovelorn album, and Beyonce would drop another album reference black experience. Mind you, I have no issues with such albums. All I'm saying is, Taylor and Beyonce, despite working to their bones, were given chances back when they were trying to pop off and and make their fanbases. But pop girlies of now are at the mercy of social media algorithm. You can see the cases of Sabrina Carpenter and Ice Spice. Algorithm made them who they are. And why is that? Beacause big popstars did not drop much when Espresso blew, or Chappell Roan blew. All in all, pop girlies need the big pop girlies to help them reach out more, since they will be taking their places one day (that's how world works), it would be nice to say that our generation also got pop acts larger than life.
Why everyone so mad about the take? I hope new artists come to the world of pop. Are the older ones more experienced and that's why the get more airplay? Sure, maybe Gen Z does need to step up in that, but for me is sad to see these huge names pull up these tricks to get more fame as if they were desperate and weren't at the top of the world already. Some of them are actually bigger than ever and still do it... Maybe new artists don't want to commit that much cause grow tired of fame very quickly or know how weird the industry is. Sure, I get if you wanna stand out you need to do some work, but seeing the ways some do it kinda throws you off. Some may be too humble idk I do like that some artists stucked around. People like Dua, Weeknd and Harry aren't that old and people like Bruno, Kendrick or Gaga still got it. But people that grew with them in the charts also grow tired of them and want new people to shop up and rightfully so. Most of my fav pop artists are Gen Z like Billie, Olivia, been enjoying Chappel and some Sabrina, too. I get that Gen Z is kinda obsessed with old music rn. I'm, too. Outside of pop and some indie, most of my most listened music is from the 90's to the early 10's. Some poeple like to complain about the music young people listen to, but when it comes to pop especially, I'm so in for the new generation. Been loving where is coming to, even with the resurgence of not so new artists like Hozier or Charli, tho there are still many new artists in other genres like rock and rap that keep it fresh and interesting as well, despite some saying otherwise. And this comes from a Gen Z. I know it's not all the old gen's fault, but he low key got a point in this vid.
It’s weird seeing yall continue to leave Tinashe outta the pop conversation when that girl has been killing it for more than a decade and is finally really popping

Very well said, I wholeheartedly agree✊🏽
Tell Gen Z to step their game up it's not the old heads fault that they still got it 😂
Right!🤣
tHIS...
Xactly
Why do older artists have to retire they have as much rights or more to stay around since the younger artists don't have the talent or the music to replace the older artists think about it 🤔
I guess because society is superficial and values youth more (even though they don’t respect young people)
I’m pretty sure Katy Perry is replaceable lol.
@longlivebeans I'm pretty sure ice spice latto sexy red can be replaced and nobody will miss them 😆 🤣 😂
By who exactly now in terms of hits especially 🙄😒😑@@longlivebeans
@alkahinat4558 it's alot of ageism when it comes to young people nowadays years ago that wouldn't happen as long as the music was good that use too be the focus but now as soon as a artists is close to 40 they need to go away 😅which is completely ridiculous & the sad part is if the newer artists was equally as good or surpassing the older artists with their music nobody wouldn't have a problem but it's nothing but copycat artists and mediocre sounding music
Well Gen Z needs to step it up.
The millennials really was the shit 😅😅
Facts
They were the last good generation, the world is doomed. I wish I was at least 20 years older than I am now.
We still are and still hot as ever. aint lost no step.
No
The new generation is so obsessed with trends of the last decade
They gotta enjoy music if this time and live in today
But 2024 music sucks. Musi today really really sucks. The younger generation sucks.
Todays music is garbage
I rather hear a 41 year old artist than an untalented 22-year-old who just wants everything to be handed to them!
I can see Gen X not having social media to promote themselves but Millenials nah. What about Myspace?
@@maccoogid4433 the reach was different. Older millennials think Gaga or Nicki came out of the club scene/ small local shows. They hustled.
What participation trophy did you get? I don't know anyone with one

26-39 is still early adulthood
40-49 is early middle age
I just think a lot of 20-24 year olds (very young adults) are waiting or putting in the work to get where they are like chapel roan and Sabrina who are also in their MID 20s lol
The venues are suffering as well, there’s less opportunities for talent to be nurtured & seen because now even support slots for gigs aren’t always available to younger acts lmao
I feel like the ageing discourse online is super duper delusional & really needs to be stopped.
Yes communists do
Honestly, I think it's really cool to see "older" artists still having a mainstay in music.
🥂
Gen Z is more worried about doing tiktok videos and making music for those tiktok videos = horrible music
If you can't cook something good, then step out of the kitchen and let those seasoned chef cook wonderful things for us.
All the artists you called old heads are what I still consider newer
newer artist music is just so boring and all the same , there's some good things here and there but it all has the tasteless bonless pace
Nicki minaj try to train the girls but they go for the quick beef then never create a fan base. Card b 2.0

The problem is young ppl (gen z) aren't as talented and don't have the same level of musicianship as the millennials. Old is gold. Just because you're young, doesn't make you better. 😅

Gen z music sucks compared to the older generations
Good evening: Seems like it's gonna stay that way unless they do something to elevate their music. Unfortunately I don't see anything happening anytime soon. Which is sad. Goodnight 💤 💤 💤 😊
Gen Z musicians removed the bridge and made average song lengths less than 2 minutes. It won’t have longevity and it won’t be considered timeless.
However, artists like Chappell Roan seem to bringing that back and maybe other artists will be inspired and follow.
I'm 35. Maybe, this video isn't for me. That being said, 2 minutes is too short.
Nobody wanna listen to gen z trash 🗑️ music 😂
Right...even gen alpha be bumping 90s / older music.
@@flyleelee5351 right!
The new generation of music is so boring
The demise of A&R is the reason why people adamantly stick to the old gen rather than embrace the new gen, plus it’s harder building a geniune authentic artist as people are more aware and can somewhat pick an artist with geniune identity and one that is a replica of what the label wants
Also the new gen don’t seem or feel like they want it as much as the old gen did
It's not Millennial artists' fault if Gen Z can't keep up because they want everything handed them instead of actully working on their skills.
All these artists didn't get big because the previous gen artists stopped working. They got big because they were great enough to create fanbase
did he say future is pushing 60 when he just turned 40
I am so thankful to see all the millenial support in the comments because gen zoo really be trying it! I think after all the years of cringe z calling the 30+ year olds “old” it’s catching up to them and now gen z is pushing 30 themselves! Karmas a bitch you shoulda known better.
Future is 40
"Born on November 20, 1983, in Atlanta, Georgia."
NOT 60 Like this video says
Generation Alpha exist, before them is Gen Z; but in Gen-Z is Younger Gen-Z and Older Gen-Z, Before Older Gen-Z are Millennials, Younger Millennials and Older Millennials, this is where things get dicey, Gen-Z Puts:
(it reminds me of how Fans uplift their favs by bringing down others, which was always a thing but only gain popularity around Younger Millennials/Gen-Z's time)
Love the video but personally I feel like you should have included JADE she’s doing good in streams and RUclips views more and more ppl are discovering her and her music and background it’s exciting to see that’s my personal pick and I agree with the first 2 artists to watch but JADE is my pick though for artist to watch 2024-2025 she literally building her fan base as a solo artist and needs her breakthrough in america something her group Little Mix failed to make a breakthrough in America she has a chance to do it as a solo artist pop music in America would love and support Jade if they push her in America start building her American audience by booking meeting greet here and big collaborations with popular artists and performances on American tv shows, talks shows, late night shows awards shows like vmas and billboard music awards and even Grammys and podcasts and snl etc big interviews in America get to know her she has the makings of being a main pop star and main pop girl she can sing she can dance has stunning visuals unique fashion and has a sound and style and aesthetic JADE has potential everything just needs to work in her favor I can see running pop genre giving new life with her style of pop music and her taking risks bring new ideas and perspective to pop music and can make it exciting and her voice is versatile she can do pop bangers and ballads , reggae, r&b , alternative, rock her potential is limitless she
She is what pop music is missing she just needs that American push were the holy grail of the music industry once you make in America as a artist you made it but she very very very talented has what we need from pop music can become a main pop girlie and can run the genre alongside the other girls
Don be do a video on JADE from little mix in the future and check out her music
Wait Americans make that sound at 8:31 ? In my country (Zambia), we call that ukufyola.😭🤣
black ppl do it so much or we say "mmm." with an occasional side eye.
I love how everyone under here didn't listen to the actual message of the video and just jumped to "Hell no!"
The man isn't encourgaing you to stop listening, supporting or loving your fav old heads, NO.
Not the older gen problem that the only thing the young gens have going for them is their fine tuned personality they show on lives
Stepping aside and giving people opportunities they aren't ready for gives you people like Raygun.
We’re living in the mid 2020’s
Exactly, he said " we're about to be in the mid 2020's" that's when credibility went to hell.
If u don't wanna see the older acts don't watch them and support younger acts instead of being bitter and prejudice
tbh the old heads are better than this new generation
Very good video
These newer artist need to step it up big time!! Most put out the most forgettable & bland music. Live Performances aren’t as memorable either.
Most of the old heads have their loyal fanbase also.
Benson not getting a mention is crazy.
if it allows for much better music from experience.... but so much is like they're stuck at 4 year's skill level.... so much of them aren't using their established names to do cool, different or bigger things. so many have turned it into a 9-5
you can be 100 years old, that song better slap
Happy Belated 80th 👏😘🤪
Thank you!!
3:07 Pure cinematography.
Sabrina is still a baby stop it
She’s been on the music industry for over a decade already
Kinda difficult for me 😊to think of some of those mentioned as "old heads"
1:23 Ariana, who ?
😂😂
Ariana grand.........
5:51 Hearing this out loud just made me realise. 😅
I would listen to katy perry's discography any day instead of today's pop tbh 🔴🔴🔴🛑🔴🔴🔴🔴🛑🔴
I think it’s just that new music kinda sucks and new artists don’t really try to make something special or meaningful anymore, but rather they try to create whatever is currently “trending” so it all kinda sounds the same and meh
Ariana GRAND??? HAHAH
"Ariana Grand"
No.
old acts r better, the new acts have their spotlight but their still not that good.
Some may be too humble idk
I do like that some artists stucked around.
6:00 is future pushing 60, i probably misheard that one
this video seemed VERY ageist...
It’s weird seeing yall continue to leave Tinashe outta the pop conversation when that girl has been killing it for more than a decade and is finally really popping
How old are you btw? You sound 30-40 if I had to guess
When you said upcoming gen zers u only named one black Person👀
Naw, weak af music gonna have weak af fans
Gen Z artists just aren't as good! And I'm speaking as a zillenial that relates more to Gen Z. I don't care about the new music.
If Aretha was alive she would Hunt you down.
Wish Xxxtentacion , Juice and pop smoke were still here
😭 nicki is older than future and you said he was pushing SIXTY?!
Lost me at Ariana Grand
What?😂 Future is literally 40 let’s not exaggerate
