So few see the unconscious truth in their songs... Its a sick sick world when i read the meaning behind this song is sex with Jesus, virgin mary... Wtf are they smoking... But going to help them out there with a few facts... We will start with mary magdalene and end with the lies of marriage/divorce/abuse/ because "men are allowed to" bullshit...
Florence's songs are always so lyrical and deliciously dark. They're works of art. Her songs haunt me long after I've listened to them.... and I LOVE it... :D
As good as Ceremonials is, I almost can't imagine not having the deluxe version. This song alone is worth the extra money. As are each of the other tracks on there. This album is quickly creeping its way into my favorite albums of all time
+isaac78russell Blasphemous? Not Necessarily, Song of Solomon is an outright celebration of sex, granted between a loving couple but still an open celebration of sexuality regardless.
Transcendent sex is like a religious experience. How about lovemaking that sweeps people into new realities, producing altered states of consciousness a thousand times more powerful than the most earth-shattering orgasm? Lovemaking so spectacular that it truly is a religious experience? If you haven't been there, you will never want anything else. You'll try to recreate it with others....but it is so rare to make this connection with another human being. The two people will always be connected no matter who they marry, they will forever seek each other.
from the Song of Songs onward, the most beautiful love songs are those that conflate sex and the sacred IMHO. This one, Hallelujah by LeonardCohen/Jeff Buckley and Take me to church by Hozier are the most stunning examples.
I don't know where I was but I am glad that I am here now....lol I just found out about this lady and the machine....incredible. Has America hide you away, cause I haven't heard all these songs, and I actual heard one of your songs on a film. So, like I said, I don't know where I have been, I am a fan now. WOW
I just came wondering : Did Florence ever sing any bad song ? 'cause I've been listening to a;lot of her songs these days, and I couldn't find even a single one I woulnd't immediatly fall in love with... She's got such a wonderful voice and awesome lyrics !
This is as good a place to fall as any We'll build our alter here Make me your Maria I'm already on my knees You had Jesus on your breath And I caught him in mine Sweating our confessions The undone and the divine 'Cause this is his body This is his blood Such selfish prayers And I can't get enough Spilt bitter tears, I did this for you Spilling over the idol The black and the blue The sweetest submission Drinking it in The wine, the women, the bedroom hymns 'Cause this is his body This is his love Such selfish prayers And I can't get enough 'Cause I'm not here looking for absolution Because I found myself an old solution I'm not here looking for absolution Because I found myself an old solution This is his body This is his love Such selfish prayers, I can't get enough This is his body This is his love Such selfish prayers, I can't get enough
Now that im older i clearly get the sexual subtext of this song... however when i was barely a teen i related to the lyrics so much on a different level cause i used to suffer from bad anxiety attacks mainly in the middle of the night and being often alone in my bedroom trying to overcome them i used to come up with all different kinds of tics and compulsions to calm myself down (even if they messed up the situation at times) and so the line "im not looking for absolution cause i found myself an old solution" was always relatable to me cause i relied on all those tricks (ceremonials you could say) to survive the night oftentimes and the nights themselves turned into religious experiences of their own... also at the time i was experiencing those anxiety peaks i wasn't as religious as i was during my childhood, in fact i had already lost my faith but at those moments of panic i often found myself praying out of sheer desperation and those were certainly the most selfish prayers... but then again i had to find the sacred out of those frantic fright fueled experiences in order to overcome them in any sense. Also this song made me feel alright about being the sacrifical object of the situation, thus enticing me to take comfort in the notion that offering myself to my own anxieties could free me from them as i would finally let go. At the same time i couldn't get enough of these coping mechanisms i had embodied to hold everything in striving for control... and this song perfectly portrays the conflict i felt & the relationship i had with my "disease".
This song is soooo perfect. it describes how i feel when i love, the fire and passion and lust, im not religions, but it can feel like a spiritual experience. I love Florence she is an amazing artist!!!!
The song is amazing, it makes me wanna dance to it until I fall completely devoid of energy.. I'm grateful you made this video, it has nice timing on the lyrics and the image you choose is great
Honestly what i love most about Flo and Mach is how I love pretty much all her songs. Other ones will end up dissapointing me by having one good song and the rest are crap. But Flo, I can listen to the who album with out skipping a single one. Seriously The only songs that I can say i don't like are remain nameless and maybe only if for a night.
It feels sinful just listening to this song! Instrumentals are awesome in this song. Florence's lyrics are always thought provoking and full of intrigue.
It doesn't make you a bandwagon fan if you actually look at a wide variety of their songs and start to fall in love. I mean, I've always listened to Florence, but I've just started to get into Lana and The Xx because of Gatsby and I'm damn well happy. I'd think that a real fan would be happy that they were getting more fame and fans.
I just read The Great Gatsby for the first time, and it fits this song, soooo well... I'm gonna show my teacher. XD I hope to get him hooked to Florence!!
I never heard her music live except the ones on youtube that people post from the concerts and its amazing how there's no difference from the cd in sound.
I mean I'm an atheïst and all... I chose no side for what I don't know shit about. But this song feels DAMN powerfull. Amazing, one of the most powerfull songs out there.
there's a good reason the song sounds very "pagan" yet mentions jesus and maria. specifically the line "found myself an old solution" seems to be about going back to a pagan practice (presumably fucking and dancing) as a celebration of a very strict God.
i love how we can listen and know it's about sex, but not once is the word "sex" mentioned. this is how music should be. subtle and poetic. not "first i park my car, then i fuck yo bitches". the poetry behind this one and Howl are my favs.
I love this song. Also, I think it would be awesome to set a tango to. I tried playing this against this scene, [HD] Antonio Banderas - Take the Lead - Tango Scene , with the latter scene muted. It worked surprisingly well! Try starting that scene 10-11 seconds after starting this video, it's really neat.
If she and Hozier ever got together for an album, that would cause the next baby boom.
So mote it be 🙏
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Next best thing, search for hozier singing cosmic love. He covered florence’s song during covid lockdown on his instagram live
So few see the unconscious truth in their songs... Its a sick sick world when i read the meaning behind this song is sex with Jesus, virgin mary... Wtf are they smoking... But going to help them out there with a few facts... We will start with mary magdalene and end with the lies of marriage/divorce/abuse/ because "men are allowed to" bullshit...
this song always gave me major hozier vibes 😩 i remember hozier said a while ago he wouldnt mind doing a collab with florence.. still waiting
You know an artist is talented when the bonus tracks could be a single.
She shoots light out of one hand and darkness out the other.
The MadaManga whoa 😮
Moria main here lolo
Makes me think of Ursula K Le Guin "The left hand of darkness is light" "and every light casts also a shadow"
Florence's songs are always so lyrical and deliciously dark. They're works of art. Her songs haunt me long after I've listened to them.... and I LOVE it... :D
I love this comment. I feel the same way.
As good as Ceremonials is, I almost can't imagine not having the deluxe version. This song alone is worth the extra money. As are each of the other tracks on there. This album is quickly creeping its way into my favorite albums of all time
One part sex and one part blasphemy, makes for an awesome song.
+isaac78russell Blasphemous? Not Necessarily, Song of Solomon is an outright celebration of sex, granted between a loving couple but still an open celebration of sexuality regardless.
Take me to church
@@McGruder25 l
These are the sort of words I imagine hearing in a Lana Del Rey song and hearing Florence sing them shows a side of her I've never seen before.
So right.
Sacrilegious. One of my favorite songs by the band. I love it!
her songs are simply exquisitely dark! OMG

Good grief this possibly the most well-written and described thing I've ever read. Beautiful.

MaryKnox Perry incubus

MaryKnox Perry Ecstasy is a great drug.
i love her music^^ it makes me wanna dance naked around a bonfire
I couldn't described it better.
Yeah that basically describes the feeling of this song.
i think that happened. woodstock anyone?
Woah. That's the feeling I get from her music. I couldn't place it, but that's exactly it.
Sameeeee!!
from the Song of Songs onward, the most beautiful love songs are those that conflate sex and the sacred IMHO. This one, Hallelujah by LeonardCohen/Jeff Buckley and Take me to church by Hozier are the most stunning examples.
the moment when you click the wrong Florence song and you just think:
"I ain't even mad"
I don't know where I was but I am glad that I am here now....lol I just found out about this lady and the machine....incredible. Has America hide you away, cause I haven't heard all these songs, and I actual heard one of your songs on a film. So, like I said, I don't know where I have been, I am a fan now. WOW

You have excellent taste. Her voice is outstanding and she seems so humble and kind. Even if she wasn't she fantastic.
hm.. I hope you don't mind if I recommend you a song you should really listen to their song howl or shake it out :)
I have to agree, She has a extraordinary voice.
Florence is AMAZING. Explore her music and buckle up, it's going to be a heck of a ride!
I live for the "Wuoaaah" sound she makes in the background
clever lyrics; it's a rarity these days to find songs with rhythm and great lyrics
I just came wondering : Did Florence ever sing any bad song ? 'cause I've been listening to a;lot of her songs these days, and I couldn't find even a single one I woulnd't immediatly fall in love with... She's got such a wonderful voice and awesome lyrics !
This is as good a place to fall as any
We'll build our alter here
Make me your Maria
I'm already on my knees
You had Jesus on your breath
And I caught him in mine
Sweating our confessions
The undone and the divine
'Cause this is his body
This is his blood
Such selfish prayers
And I can't get enough
Spilt bitter tears,
I did this for you
Spilling over the idol
The black and the blue
The sweetest submission
Drinking it in
The wine, the women, the bedroom hymns
'Cause this is his body
This is his love
Such selfish prayers
And I can't get enough
'Cause
I'm not here looking for absolution
Because I found myself an old solution
I'm not here looking for absolution
Because I found myself an old solution
This is his body
This is his love
Such selfish prayers,
I can't get enough
This is his body
This is his love
Such selfish prayers,
I can't get enough

My heart just exploded...
My heart was pretending to dance naked.
This song is soooo perfect. it describes how i feel when i love, the fire and passion and lust, im not religions, but it can feel like a spiritual experience. I love Florence she is an amazing artist!!!!

I think it says "spilled milk tears" not bitter.

sounds strangely like an Indian chant its steady and melodious okay
I love this song. Also, I think it would be awesome to set a tango to. I tried playing this against this scene, [HD] Antonio Banderas - Take the Lead - Tango Scene , with the latter scene muted. It worked surprisingly well! Try starting that scene 10-11 seconds after starting this video, it's really neat.
