Classic artist's fallacy. You only see the end result. Well, usually anyway. You see a tree or a mountain. However, the Master teaches us that it's all just happy accidents.
Now the trick is to know when and how to make them. I bet her very first mural was a not so happy accident. So, observe your work, get to know them, make friends. That's how they become happy ones.

Doing this would be a pretty easy setup. You could buy some large sheets of drywall at Home Depot for about 10 bucks per 4'x8' to practice on and hang-up in the room to see how it looks. Then, start on the wall itself when you're ready. Probably a pretty fun DIY project.
