The world is in a state of emergency, Hip Hop just reflects that. It's pretty much every music genre and entertainment in general. Everything is watered down and created to make profit. Quantity over quality.

    • @polarisjustdothework2258
      @polarisjustdothework2258 7 месяцев назад +1

But is it becoming "just entertainment..."

    • @IronKnee963
      @IronKnee963 7 месяцев назад +5

@@polarisjustdothework2258 I'd argue that pop culture aka entertainment plays the most important role in shaping and reflecting a society.
Of course this will expand to all facets of life, but the roots come from entertainment.
People thought it's dumb and funny when politicians complained about violent video games, yet there is a truth to the topic. Just like glorifying serial killers with their own TV Shows.
Desensitizing society to certain topics slowly makes them accept and even crave them.
For example all the gay stuff we see today wasn't acceptable just 20 years ago (the amount of years it takes to re-educate the next new generation). Slowly but surely the entertainment industry has been including this topic in every show, music, movie, toy and whatever else. Not too much, just enough to SHAPE young minds into the culture. After a certain time, these young minds will create their own culture within that one, with similar values and BOOM, suddenly it's everywhere and reflecting what society has turned into.
That's how they did it with Hip Hop. Slowly promote violence, drugs and sins in general. Claim you are just "reporting on what you are surronded by", when in reality, your reports have shaped what you are surrounded by. Entertainment is a VERY powerful tool. The roman circus existed for a reason bro bro.

No I think they should put in the work to get to the main stream. and I think it's okay to be self made but to be main stream they need to have to go through a main stream studio to be main stream. Underground is a stepping stool to get your foot in the door. Just my opinion but who am I. Ghostbusters 💜😈💜 I'm not the one you got to worry about tho. I'll watch from a distance. It's not my call on what y'all do. But if you need me I'm here for y'all just tap in.. I just want slaughter House back together that would make me happy and I'll stfu.

For me, I'm not interested in the same flow over the same trap beat. I'm not interested in mumble junk. I'm also not interested in rappers who are clearly just trying to get the bag and bounce. I like skill. Whether it's a creative beat, hitting an interesting pocket in the beat, wordplay, subject matter.. but it has to have passion. I need to be able to detect a love for the craft. That's why I f*ck with you, Crook. You got allllll of that. In my opinion, YOU are what's missing. Rappers like you.

in the corporate and mainstream world, hip hop is in a state of emergency because awareness is being oppressed conditionally worse over the years and the corporate entities use the platform to spread ignorance. Then the ignorance becomes the new influence for future artists, which continues to get worse.
true hip hop fans know how to find the independent and underground gems but the ones who are just feeding into whatever is in the forefront are more susceptible to a corrupted lifestyle which creates more toxicity in our families, friends, and society. Everything is connected.

I know from watching my kids, the music they get introduced to on a daily basis is just the quick catchy tik-tokable songs.

The reality , the awareness I learned from songs like Fuck the Police , Loves Gonna Getcha , Self Destruction , All in the same game, Fight the Power , The Ghetto and movies like Boyz N the Hood and Menace II Society . i’ve always viewed Hip Hop Music and Culture as my form of Religion…most true Heads will understand where i’m coming from, so with that being said, imo, Hip Hop, like the Bible, is open to interpretation, it is what “You” make it, how it suits you and your way of life, belief’s…etc….so to look at Hip Hop M&C as a whole and try to “Organize” it and promote it collectively, is just as bad as Chuches and “Organized Religion” trying to control one’s beliefs and teach/brainwash everyone to believe this is what “Hip Hop is” is just like saying “Christianity” is the only form of religion, and that is wrong…..hope my point is understood, and not takin out of context 💯💪👊🙏🚾

It’s like we have to be edited versions of ourselves depending on what society has defined a particular genre as. It’s stupid! It’s like high school shit where your clothes dictated where you fit in or who you were supposed to hang out with. Can’t hang out with the homies unless you dress the part. Thankfully, there were always a few individual freethinkers who didn’t adhere to that shit when I was growing up. I have always been interested in multiple music genres, art forms and other topics of interest and discussion that don’t fit neatly into any of the defined cultural or societal checkboxes.

Now, 2 of them basically ARE the machine. Joe Budden even said, to Joell's face that he's bigger than he & Crook . And Royce, he's so far up his own ass these days, it's so very disappointing. Hiphop is both thriving and collapsing, because as an industry (entertainment business, mainstream music) it is growing (in streams not sales), Drake being one of the biggest rappers nowadays is a show of that, a great rapper but not at all an MC (he didn't write some of his songs, talks as if he's American while being Canadian)
Money is actually the root of all evil, because giant corporations push some artists that have an "image" that may feel easy to digest, and secure easy sales, instead of taking risks with real people with stories to tell.
I am pretty bitter about the trap era, but I don't think it's their solely their fault, most people this generation feel so stupid to me, reading at a 3rd grade level with 20 years of age, people that can't pay attention for more than 3 minutes, it's kind of the consequences of the cellphones, what can we do.
The problem is that, like you said in your tweets recently, there's no one inside the culture looking out for each other, instead everyone is doing their thing and that keeps the common interests very hard to achieve.
You have a great voice for audiobooks Crook, you should try to make one lmao.
J Cole and Kendrick are amazing, but they aren't enough, and it's sad because some people that couldn't have been that big also got killed or died, this generation also lost talents like XXXtentacion, JuiceWrld, Takeoff, etc
There's not a definite answer, thebonly definite thing is that I Will (pun intended) be here every Wednesday.
Good luck with this series and hopefully you have a breakthrough and can change History for the better, I'm rooting for you!

That's kind of where hip-hop is at. There used to be way more commercial acts being presented. Now, there's only room for a handful to be at the forefront. That 40% might be real.

My take on the question asked.. In general Yes. Here is why I think it is.
Hip-Hop is a culture (a collective) of elements within one's everyday life of struggle and fighting against it. If that message continued to spread more enlighten generations come from it and fight against that struggle... Progressively moving forward. It radiates from within then outward to others and spreads.
Those that are in it for monetary value (Label's) either don't want that message spread. Because growth, knowledge and business smarts come from it, lowering their bottom dollar. So will place a *Face* in your face as the *New Sound* and those don't know the history of Hip-Hop and where it came from. Will not be aware they are being used and controlled to keep them blind. Speaking on equality, economics, public demand for change in politics. Presented in a manner the youth can relate to, is not what *they* want. In order for them to keep the bigger picture and message from being heard. They will continue to make a quick dollar off the youth on the backdrop of a good beat, and move on to the next. Putting nothing forth of value out. No message, no learning, no conscience mind..
The youth contribute to this because they *don't care to know* about the history of Hip-Hop and why it was formed in the first place. They perpetuate the cycle of *One Hit Wonders* The label walks away with the money and the artist is left to fend for themselves, if they don't have the proper guidance. Those artist that want to stay true to Hip-Hop and the message it brings, takes them longer to get a name for themselves due to the topics being discussed... It's easy to talk about how many shoes you have or girls you've slept with... Than it is to come up with an entire album of tracks about the struggle of just walking outside your door, down the street and coming home alive.
Music will always be universal but those bringing the music to the universe need be completely aware of WHAT exactly it is you're brining and if you want to be apart of it... What does it bring to your universe and does it help or hinder it's progression.
That's just my thought about the state of Hip-Hop

Hip Hop is on a rapid decent due to corporate greed, the pushing of a nefarious agenda in the music, the media, society's decline. The artists today, most, lack passion and love for hip hop and it is very much reflected in the music. Sadly Hip Hop has changed forever in the worst way possible.

I love the idea/picture of bringing hip hop down to the ground and building it back up. Maybe that is what is needed.
The first time I heard hip hop music was Cypress Hill. I did not understand a word but I loved the feeling it gave me. Then I heard Busta and a little later on Eminem. Todays rap is nothing like that. I know how to find great music on my own but not everybody does that. They just feed on whatever is popular. So are the music companies bad or are people lazy? Maybe both?

I feel hip hop is in a state of emergency.
Streaming is a good pathway for the artists because it allows them the means to reach their fans without having "the machine" or labels behind them. Is it fair(lucrative) for the artists? Not really bu its easily accessible for fans. HOWEVER, it just opened the flood gates for everybody who think they can rap. So now we have to siphon and filter through the 🐂💩
We have all these wack rappers out now that are getting exposure for thier goofy a** antics and butter knife 16's rather than putting real lyricists in the forefront. With that being said, it's our own fault for buying into the sh*t. We got to draw a line somewhere because hip hop is taking one step forward and 3 steps back

Is Hip Hop in a state of emergency? I think it depends on who's perspective. As a fan since streaming I have checked out and listened to way more artists than I ever would have. I am 50 years old and remember when Hip Hop was not allowed to be played on mainstream radio. If there was a rap in an r&b song it would be cut out. I listened to a college station on Friday nights just to hear BDP and other artists that wasn't 'pop' as it used to be said.
Now, as a Hip Hop fan is it my responsibility to know how an artist deal is structured/know the music business? As a kid, my mom did show me how going to concerts is beneficial to artist as far as support goes. That said I am charged that I am going to the Rock the Bells Cruise next week. I wish there was more westcoast representation and KXNG Crooked was part of the lineup but, I digress and am babbling now so that's it for now.

Hip Hop as a culture in my opinion is not what it once was and has evolved world wide which has changed the demographics yes but is it in a state of emergency ... it seems so ... considering the evolution of trap and drill influencing the over all conception of hip hop, it has definitely been diluted and the narrative seems to have changed and what was once important to old heads doesn't seem to hold importance or value to some of these new cats but thats just my observation ✌🏽

I will always love to see black and brown people making money in this culture, but the truth is the truth. The spotlight is on artists with the most detrimental influence on the people, and its sad. I wouldn’t have a problem with Sexy Red having a spotlight if Rapsody had that same spotlight, there needs to be a balance between fun and real. Its 2023, there are little black and brown girls all around the world with cell phones now, and what are they seeing?what is influencing them?well its what the algorithm and media wants them to see. Hip hop music is fuckin horrible right now, and you would feel the same way if you cared about the youth and the culture of hip hop. You absolutely right Crook, i appreciate your voice in this culture!

Im a straight cd shop or record shop cat. Love the hustle, the indistry shuffle, and the new stuff. But i give cali love to the music, take an example with ab soul. His experience is a job now, and he could expand all borders professionally. But this lyrical thing isnt taken seriously. Right?

FACTS about all of what he says. He really does talk to his fans on Twitter & Instagram. The tip of the spear is the first you gonna hear. I do believe it's in a state of emergency because some of them just want their 15 min of fame but some of the ish they rap about is about using drugs or killing people & I don't think it's positive. I want my kids to be listening to positive things in hiphop. That's my opinion tho.
