In 1961, the two biggest DJs associated with WIBG, Hy Lit and Joe Niagara, weren't at the station at this time. They had both gone to the West Coast during the height of the payola scandals, which weren't as prevalent on the West Coast. They eventually returned in 1962 or '63. It almost sounds like it's actually Jerry Stevens at the beginning of the aircheck, then Harve Miller comes on later, but that might just be me. WIBG had a notoriously heavy commercial load its first decade. Hy Lit once said that at one time they were playing a half hour of commercials for every broadcast hour!
Humble Harve a KHJ legend. Worked WMID Atlantic City too. One of the "Killer" Boss Jocks LOL. BTW Great line I heard used on WIBG playing I STARTED A JOKE: "These are the W-I-Bee-Gees". On this aircheck Harve had none of his legendary R&B "soul" voice heard on KBLA, KHJ & onward. Interesting.
He sounded much better on KHJ. My music organization hired Harve to emcee a show about 25 years ago. Not the warmest person I've met-I'll blame that on doing a few years in prison.😀😃
Never realized HH worked in Philly.
Thanx Ellis.
He was from the Metro Philly area. He also worked at WFIL in the 1980s.

phillyradiogeek I would like to know the back story on this one. Very interesting. Do I know you phillyradiogeek?
@@joewhlm I highly doubt it, as I've never worked in radio, although I wanted to. I'm just a classic radio fan, especially of Philly radio. Thanks!
phillyradiogeek I worked in Philly at WIFI in1976. It was a good radio town.
If WIBG had such a heavy commercial load, how did they play the Top 99? Probably a lot of songs on that list didn't get played every day.
I worked with Harvey in Trenton at WAAT (1300 AM) he did days there and nights at WIBG. BTW that's Stan Freberg's Chun King Commercial at beginning.
Steve, if you happen to have any of those air checks lying around from the old days, of yourself, or anyone else, I'd love to archive them here!
@@EllisFeaster afraid I have none. I have photos of harve and Frank x at waat in Trenton where I lived then
Maybe never better than his KBLA days!
OK, Now It's Your Turn!

Ellis,
Do you have any Steve Lundy air checks from WLS, KFRC, KROQ, WNBC, K-100 orKILT ? Love these air checks
I have one Lundy Aircheck from from KILT, and I think I have a cassette from WLS. I’ll try to upload them soon.
Ellis: Are you interested in WIBG newspaper ads mostly from the 1960’s and some from the early 70’’s to use on aircheck videos? Pretty good quality.
D Raff Sure. If you want to email them, send to ellis.feaster@zradio.org
WIBG stands for "I Believe in God." Always thought that it meant that God blessed rock 'n' roll!
Maybe it was founded by a church. San Francisco's KSFO began life as Oakland's KTAB (Tenth Avenue Baptist) in 1925.
Ellis. I think Harv worked at WMID too.
I thought so but wasn’t sure. How are things at WHLM? I may be in PA this fall. Maybe I can get a tour of the station.
Ellis Feaster if you don’t visit I will bash you. 😂
joewhlm LOL!!! Ok!!! I’ll let you know when we are coming. I tried to send you a note on Facebook a few days ago, but could not find your page.
Elis, do you have air checks on Bob Night Hawk Terry from WOL, DC?
I don’t think I do. If someone passes some Night Hawk audio to me, I’ll post it.
@@EllisFeaster Thanks, would love to hear it, I'm old fan WOL Jocks and WWRL NY

Ellis... love you new openers and your comments!!
J.R. Jackson Glad you enjoy it!
Stan Freberg and Bob and Ray spots in the same aircheck. The commercials were sometimes more entertaining than the music.
Sounds like "Somebody's fine engaged." 5:58
I had one of those Panasonic multi- band radios in the lower right background.
I was working at Roy Rogers fast food restaurant, and saved so long to buy that radio in 1979.
Don't think it Harve first part
A Diamond Films Do you have any idea who it is?
@@EllisFeaster no but I am 99% sure initial dj is not HH
@@Adiamondfilms @Ellis Feaster , it might be Jim Stagg based on the time checks and the jock schedule that appeared @ 9:39 in the video above.
Artist and song? 7:00-7:13
'Where The Boys Are' from Connie Francis
What's that mean? 0:09
You mean “Hola!”??? Really???
Hello
What a terrible air check. Harv appears midway and is forced to read these terrible commercials. What a waste of talent! And those dreadful jingles!
