This is just upper class armchair discussion tbh. Byju's predatory marketing tactics does rely on the FOMO of the parents who want to give education to their children. But bigger than that are the cases where they have got low income parents into signing up for EMI -based subscriptions from which they can't opt out even if they want to. Parents are told that they can cancel the subscription of the plans but once they sign up their child for it and want to cancel it, they can't. There have been cases where families had to forget about refund. So the guest's justification that Byju's is being a victim of media's/ naysayers' attempt at negative publicity is just lame. And I was most surprised when he mentioned Byju's along with RUclips & Khan Academy. I would have been happier if he had said that almost all of knowledge is free today and instead of Byju's people should look on RUclips or Khan Academy to gain knowledge.
I am for Entrepreneurship & have huge respect for Khan Academy & want to see something similar in India. I am sorry but you can't compare Khan Academy with Byju's. Most of EdTech in India is ExamTech. It's all about cashing in on the FOMO of parents who want to see their kids as Engineers/ Doctors/ IAS Officers. I am sorry for the rant but this justification of Byju's is just lame and probably the worst I have seen.
I realised just now that the title says honest opinion. That's the most sugar-coated opinion I have ever seen. The guy was defending Byju's so badly like maybe Byju Raveendran was showing him an investment cheque from the other side of the room.

I bought a 2 year 11th,12th standard JEE subscription from Byjus 4 years back. They gave me recorded demo classes for the first 2 chapters of PCM which had beautiful 3D animations and made me buy their course. It was only when I reviewed the following chapters that I found out how poor their teaching standards were. The videos were not even edited properly and there were mistakes in recordings which were only corrected in upcoming lectures. ONE OF THE WORST SERVICES I EVER PAID FOR.

Do not invite idiots like him on your podcast who know nothing about Byju’s work culture & tactics. Byju harasses it’s employees and it’s customers. It purchased whitehatjr a couple of years back and it changed the entire model. Employees were asked to hire “Teachers” even if they weren’t from science/IT background to teach coding to children as long as the “teacher” was willing to take classes for more than 10 hours. Byju compromises on quality for their own greed and I don’t even want to start talking on the way they treat their employees. Byju and the company it has owned has a dedicated team to delete comments and report videos and posts against byju so the posts/videos can be taken down. It also files defamation cases on everyone who try to expose them.
Request to Ranveer:- you have some really really amazing guests but please make sure these guests know their subject well. This one does not.

    TRUE STORY:
A friend of mine was a sales guy at Byju. The office culture and environment is so bad and negative, he had to resign from the job.
Their only motive is to show the income n raise more funds. No moral, no decency no business ethics
They are looting and cheating people. The guy which I mentioned above had to to pitch to a daily wage labourer (single earned), who is living in a 1RK chawl with aluminium sheet above. The poor guy had some other dream for his kid thinking that after buying this course it will help him his kid. But unfortunately, that was utter bullshit. Its a complete loss to their hard earned money.
The senior are so pushy n to get the sales target they can go to any level. Reading all these comments, I had to put down my own thoughts to it.

I don't agree with the guy.. this guy is just saying what he has seen at the surface. He hasn't interacted with the real students who use it. Plus it is not "Accessible". They cost very high which can go around for 1 -2 lakhs.
I agree having buisness tactics is okay because you wanna grow but they use students and parents insecurity as their tactics..
They make students feel so dumb that we loose our hope and feel highly demotivated.. and parents feel that we cannot succeed without byjus
From my personal experience, they'll ask you que which they know you cannot answer and will make you feel in front of your own parents. Your parents, seeing you not being able to answer feel heartbroken that you know nothing.. you start to doubt yourself..
Somehow if you buy their subscription, they'll constantly force you to use byjus.. i used the app in the starting of my sessions but later I used to go to tuitions, had multiple hw, test projects.. I could barely make time for byjus.but still i used to give time to byjus, tho i couldn't give much time. they'll constantly call you and your parents saying that you are not using their app, pressurise you and will take your insecurities as an opportunity like you'll lack behind your friends, etc. I even explained my issue but still they used to not understand me and used to say that you have to use as your parents have paid for it..which I agree but it used to make me feel bad as my parents have paid for it, but it was not manageable.. they never helped me to manage time they just used to say "make time somehow" .. idk if this happened just with me .
Also if you are a jee aspirants, they'll pressurise you even more..i remember once they called a zoom meeting and asked me que to see my jee preparation, i wasn't able to answer and i felt horrible in front of my mom..he even said that you use byjus but still you're so Back behind many.. many have started preparing this that...i cannot tell you how bad i felt that day. He made me feel like a failure.. byjus destroyed my already destroyed mental health!
In conclusion, i feel byjus are trying to help students I agree but they have created very unhealthy and toxic environment for jee and neet students. Idk about rest but u can definitely agree with jee and neet.. they'll constantly make you feel that you are not doing enough and never encourage..The entire problem is they have made education a business, they were passionate in the earlier stage but now it's pure buisness making 1000s of students depressed.
Maybe that's the reason why students love and respect physics wallah more than byjus

This guy is comparing an insurance company's marketing tactics to an educational product marketing. If byju's products are indeed so good, they don't need to use such aggressive marketing, their student's results will speak for itself. Him laughing and talking casually about "suicides in IIT" Shows his IQ level. Those cases were a huge insight on the toxic pressure students were suffering from both teachers and parents, it was a revolutionary movement for Indian students at that time that we had had enough.

As an Ex- Employee of Byju's, I feel I have enough understanding to your question
I truly agree that Byju's is a great product for many, but there is a huge difference between having a need and creating a need, creating a need in unethical manner is being followed in Byju's.
Employees in sales will give a top notch demo and with that expectations will become sky high, and force you to buy by using some tactics like discounting, urgent need creation and few more.
Problem starts when customer recieves the actual product, sales team shows a dream of Audi and sends a Nano.
When comes to service( after sales) it is completely waste, many infact 80% lost their trust in byjus just because of after sales team.
I really feel the current day OLA Electric crisis is similar to Byju's crisis but in ola the product delivered reached only 20% of expectations so it got flipped really quick, and in byju's it would be around 45% so not everyone but many lost their trust in the brand and negativity spread

I absolutely disagree. I had enrolled for a course after paying full amount for 3 years which we never got back again (stupidest decision me and my family had ever made, but I was young then and my parents were gullible middle class people who bought into their FOMO, so nothing could be done). And when I went there after a few weeks I realized that it wasn't just me but everyone else was either not happy being there or would just not come. Years later I am yet to come across one person who was genuinely glad they took up their course (mind you I being a student have met quite a few). And this guy says 95% don't speak, which is absolute BS. He's the only person who wasn't critical of the that I've come arcoss, apart from Sharukh Khan and the children in their ads, idk. And I also have several friends working in corporate jobs. And everyone who spoke about their office culture too was very critical of it. This guy just painted a rainbow on a gutter cap.

I was never asked by my Development Officer or branch manager to do any sort of dirty marketing! And I believe this is the case with most of the LIC agents. The ads you were referring had a disclaimer that insurance is a subject of one’s personal wish and can’t be enforced on anyone!
LIC works with ethics, they don’t layoff people, don’t abuse their employees!

Byjus might be a great product which helps kids study at anytime, however, the way things function on ground reality is very different. It’s not just the 5% who voice out louder than the 95% who enjoy the content, try speaking to someone who’s worked there you’ll know the chaos and toxicity they face. It’s easily said about how companies use sales tactics which are questionable, if they truly are, are we normalising it in a sense? All these thoughts shared on this video are for those who are privileged, not for those who are forced into EMI’s with their kid’s future being the hope of their middle class life to come to and end. Big fan of this show ,Ranveer and the line of his thoughts, however, id like to disagree on this one. 😊

When I used BYJU's in 2016 and 17 for my 9th and 10th I really found it useful. It was accessible and that time there was not much of an internet boom. And it was really good, I scored much above my expectations in 10th, but it's not as worth in 11th and 12th.
Well, similiar FOMO techniques are also used by coaching classes to make parents believe that this exam is so much important and bla bla... without even judging whether the student is capable or motivated enough to prepare for the competitive exam.
In my opinion, students should judge themselves, whether they are motivated to prepare for the competitive exam instead of showing them the fear, and they should just attend CBSE school to strengthen their basics and develop some emotional maturity.
And then they can drop an year and dedicatedly prepare for the exam.

Rely solely on NCERT and RUclips and doubtnut.

I don't agree with his opinion. Pressurising a class 6 students parents who can't afford it to take their course by creating so much FOMO that 6 years down the line their kid might not make it into IIT/IIM unless they buy their products. They are even providing loans for such things to the parents. Distasteful to say the least. And khan academy (free) can't be compared to money hungry companies such as byjus whitehat jr etc

I myself worked with byjus. And let me tell you one thing they don't care about children and their education. They only care about money. I was the education counsellor, and they asked me to sell their products even if it is of no use to children. They ask us to sell English language courses to hindi medium students. What is the use of English content to someone who doesn't understand anything in english. Also the work culture is so pathetic, they don't care about your talent. You can only succeed in byjus if your manager is favoring you, otherwise tatabyebye. 13 employees out of a team of 15 employees were crying because our manager was so partial. He gave all the premium leads to a girl who studied from his college and that girl was like so cheap, calling our manager late in the night, sitting just next to him, trying to impress him, trying to make him emotionally attached with her. Because of that girl he ignored the entire team. And this is the case with all the managers, So girls if you can attract your manager by doing cheap things then only join byjus. I can't do such things that's why i left byjus

Some person came to give justification and starts to defend that by giving foolish Examples
And please note those people's because the same people do hate when everyone loves or agree some people or an ideology or something

Byjus has crappy study material, for IIT-JEE (that i bought in 2017), well my friends have same opinion on UPSC, SSB, material, they are only interested in fleecing money selling crappy Tabs!
And more reviews from my locality who bought Byjus
    1. The salesman never picks up the phone after you purchase the product
    2. The study material is a piece of garbage (e-Garbage)
    3. Even when they want to return the product, the company walas don't respond on time, just to exhaust the 30-day returning policy
They just want to hit sales targets and never work on quality content!

Swap percentage of people. Only 5% people enjoy byjus and 95% don't like because of fees and force.
i completed my entire 1-12 standards within 2 lakhs ( I studied in JNV 6-12). I don't think only information should worth 1-2 lakhs per annum.
The only things students should learn is to thinking and Googling.
Thinking enables reasoning and Google has lot's of information.
There are lots of self taught students who rule the world in many aspects.

Since the beginning of lockdown, offline tuitions was far from reality. Plus, the area where I live, has no teacher who could actually help me learn, in a way CBSE wants you to, with their frequent change of exam patterns, curriculum and much much more. I'm supposed to appear for my 12th boards this year. And frankly, all I have been able to learn, is from RUclips. I'm a commerce student, and two channels in RUclips, Rajat Arora and Sunil Panda commerce classes have helped me tremendously. All for free educational content. Now, coming back to the context of byju's i personally feel all they really sell is insecurities and FOMO to both the parents and their children. Also, most of their contents revolves around science stream, and there is hardly anything available for commerce students, which I feel, if they are such a big company, should introduce in their services. At times when I search for a question I have doubts in, a byju's page appears which has locked content for detailed explanation. They want you to take their paid course for it and i find it ridiculous and funny at the same time. If they want, they can make their business model transparent and diversify their services to even more students with different academic backgrounds. But they don't do it simply because edtech based on JEE and NEET are money making machines. And they know it very well.
