Beautiful work ,looks great .! . But beware of overheating troubles . I did the same thing to my klr and on the way home from my first good long day ride the exhaust valves started sticking and ticking loudly . FREAK ! I unraped the entire thing and found the aluminum muffler put back was having a bit of a meltdown and is a really cool new shape . Fresh oil change and another good long ride and the ticking took off . Now I only wrap the pipe where it passes below the airbox , a klr thing . I'm still in that dreaming of a Ural stage. Happy trails !
I would say that it will reduce cylinder temps, since the wrap is keeping the heat in instead of getting blown on the engine… but the reality is, I needed to tidy up the pipes, and I didn’t want to spend money to get them ceramic coated again. Plus, I didn’t want them to be barbecue black, so I wrapped them. So in a nutshell… for the good looks. 😬
@@Uraljunkie It sounds like a good product. I may look into wrapping mine. I upgraded mine with a GPR exhaust last spring and it has a number of sections so, it may be more detailed to apply. 👍
Yep… sure did. I ran it through a couple of idling heat cycles to get rid of the smoke and cure the high temp paint. Will take it for a ride tomorrow to see if anything falls off…
glade to hear from you, i have a 2016 GU bought it new ride all the time. i live in las vegas so summers are tough. see ya in the next video.@@Uraljunkie
Don't wrap the muffler and the pipes.. the cooling of the engine is not warrantied... and under the wrap, there will be a lot of rust... really, it's a bad idea. And the outlet - valve coud erlier break, it gets hotter than normal. .... my idea:put it off and make a good paint on it.... thats the best you can do, or change the material and take stainless steel... or chrome.... best wishes , Peter
I tend to agree. I did give the pipes a good coating of primer and paint before wrapping. I guess it was mostly out of curiosity, since I had never wrapped pipes before.
@@Uraljunkie Stainless steel needs air. Air with oxygen makes a protective oxide film of chromium oxide on the stainless pipe. You closed the stainless pipes from oxygen - there will be no protective film of chromium oxide and your pipes will rust quickly. Thermal conductivity of stainless steel x18n10 is 3 times less than that of ordinary black steel. You bought crap made of aisi 321 steel for many dollars. If you want the pipes not to darken - make pipes from steel aisi 304L (X18Ni10 Carbon 0.03% ) or steel aisi 310S (X23Ni18 Carbon 0,1%).
I just watched the video, your pipes are not made of stainless steel. The pipes are not made correctly at all. Gas flows from the cylinders - very poor cleaning of the cylinders with such pipes.
Really neat job !
Thanks, Mike!

Oh… wow. Thanks for the heads up. I will keep an eye on it and measure some temperatures if the snow ever stops and I can ride again. Thanks again!
Nice installation! What is the benefit of pipe wrap, other that its good looks?

Haha… at least you won’t have to paint them first…
I put some on both my Ural after I melted the ankle on my $1k Aerostich suit.
Question to all. I thought you need to soak the wrap and wrap it wet?
On this type of wrap, no. DEI Titanium wrap goes on dry with no need to soak.
@@Uraljunkie thank you
did the wrap have that triditional nasty smell/smoke?

Yes indeed on the Las Vegas heat! Ride safe!

@@иванпетров-в1ы1я Great point, but. My pipes are regular steel, not stainless.
