I like how you can hide the wires in the back... allows for easier shelf display!
I just bought this last night and love it only thing i would change is a longer AV cord so if you are playing it in your bedroom you can sit on the bed and play it I give it 5 out of 5 stars
Fun fact: this Plug & Play was originally released in 2012, not 2015. It also originally had a stiff, mushy, 8-way joystick, but that was changed due to it being unresponsive for most of the games. I know because I have 2 of them, one with a horrible stiff mushy stick, and one with the nice smooth clicky one.
I know why in bosconian you can only go in 4 directions. The joystick is extremely stubborn, and you have to really push to the point you feel like you will break the stick. I can go down and left, but i don't want to test the plastic.
We hate the joystick, it's horrible!
You can go diagonally in Bosconian. You just have to be at the right angle to do it. I am assuming this goes for Xevious too.
It was tricky for me at first but I figured out how to do it. For me for instance I would push up and then right very shortly afterwards and it would turn diagonally to the right
Noticed this at Target tonight (7-2-2021)...and purchased for $24.99 with a giftcard to celebrate my 60th B-day in a week. I still have the plastic clam shell Namco edition, but have yet to crack open its case....may have to save that one for another day. PS...has anyone on tried the AV cable extension and or female barrel connectors to extend the length of the cord. Should work although low power and extended length may have adverse affects on your battery life....and has anyone switched it to 3.8-4.2V LiIon batteries yet??? Any issues?? THanks...classics are still just that.
CLASSICAL! And thanks for your review...
The issue with the restricted joystick is due to the joystick being too high. I did a mod to mine and it lets me move in all 8 directions and the games run at "full speed" as the joystick is more sensitive and acts almost identical to an arcade joystick. I can give you more details on my mod if you'd like.
How did u do the mod?
I had Pac-Man Plug n Play is my final plug n play that I got it at Toys R Us when I was 12 years old child since July 2013
The joystick permits you to move in all eight directions for bosconian. Steering it diagonally works for me.
I vaguely recall there being different versions of these, some with a 4 way joystick setup and some with an 8 way setup. That could explain it. However I can't remember where I heard it, or how to tell the two versions apart.
On mine some of the games are continuing and others are not is there a way to turn that on and off or is that just how it is?
Where can I purchase the BanDai Pacman plug n play?
I have this. the joystick is 8 directional but really hard to do diagonals.
How do u hook this thing up mist tvs dont have anywhere for the yellow plug
I have a question: I have one and I'm wondering if i can get an adapter that plugs into an HDMI port on my computer and play it on my computer instead. Would that work? Please reply to this comment @The No Swear Gamer
I remember owning this as a younger lad. Unfortunately, I don't have one anymore.
That plug n play I own one of those if you try to move the joystick at an angle you can move boscoinan diangle
Yeah, apparently earlier versions let you move 8 ways, but that the current ones.
Funny thing is that this is still better than the Atgames Bandai Namco flashback blast! The only thing that Atgames system has on this one is that it's HD and Wireless everything else about it sucks!
Mappy is my favorite game of all time.
I have a different version of this, with a couple of game cartridges giving at least 10 games. I have the pole position version that I bought in the early 2000's.
I’ve got this, it’s awesome I play super Pac-Man on it all the time
I got this at Indigo when it came out, I’ve loved it since, the game selection I agree is not the best, it would be great with Ms. Pac-Man, but still a great plug in and play console up to date.
We're do you plug them to
My control won’t work is there way to reset it?
Awesome! Thank you for the tips.
You should get the 40th anniversary arcade 1up it is a mini arcade machine
2:46
What's the name of that game?
Waka waka!
The Jakks Pacific Pac Man plug and play is better than this version because it has microswitches in the buttons. I just wished they had Pole position on the Bandai/Namco Pacman plug and play just like the Jakks Pacific version instead of Pac Man 256 which is impossible to beat.
Help please! I bought this for my son and didn’t check our tv before buying it! 😭😭 turns out my tv has no where to plug it! Only the Verizon cable box has and I have been trying but seems like nothing is working! Do you happen to know how to make it work in this situation?
Keila Velasquez If you're still looking for a solution, you could find an hdmi converter for it on amazon. Check the reviews and questions before buying though!
You will probably need one of those external boxes called a coaxial cable to RCA jacks converter I'm pretty sure some brands still make them especially now that a lot of TVs do not have the plugs natively anymore yet again. I guess things have come full circle. :-) hopefully that helps and you can find one. the one I have does plug into the wall and I think that's how they all are.
Can someone please give me some advice on if I'm doing this wrong or does it need brand new batteries because I even put in brand-new better that I bought two of them and they're still doing the same thing I can't go up and down with the Pac-Man please help me someone
I got this so many years ago and it’s cool
How long is the cord?
Does this version have true arcade authenticate emulation ?
Yes.
Its actually hard to control in diagonals.
I bought two of them one for the room and one to go
There's a rights issue with Ms Pac Man? Huh? I thought Namco had all the rights to that now.
When Ms. Pac-Man saw a revival in the early 2000s with an arcade combo game and plug n play, Namco forgot about GCC, who created the game and was supposed to share profits with them. My guess is we don't see Ms. Pac Man as much, because you know need to pay more than just Namco.
You only want a 4 way joystick for games like pac man, otherwise you get cheap deaths on pac man, dig dug, etc. I dont know why manufacturer's add 4 ways with 8 ways and vice versa. on my arcade upright cabs, i have sticks that can change back and forth for my 48-1 and 60-1 jamma's.
Sad they didn't make it so Bosnonian has 8 way controls, but nice it still has the voice samples. Had the controller had the twist function of the previous Jakks Pacific Plug 'n Plays, and this could've supported Pole Position too (too bad Ms. Pac-Man was left out).
Love the games. Hate the feel of the controller!!!!
I picked this up at Savers for $3 yesterday.
I attached it and it’s black-and-white no color and no volume not sure what I’m doing wrong haha ???
You connect like a DVD player using only 1 audio input and the yellow video input, set your TV to video mode.
I have one of the Pole position joysticks. it is great. My uses two little cartridges.
Say what? You can‘t move diagonally? Is this a technical or mechanical limitation?
Presumably the joystick is fixed into the 4-axis mode. Pac-Man games in the arcade (and most older, pre-1982 joystick controlled arcade units) had 4-axis joysticks so you could go around the mazes quicker instead of getting hung up on a corner. The problem with doing that on a unit like this is that you have games (like Xevious) that use an 8-axis it limits your game play.
Another great review Phil!
i myself just wanted this to collect and display in the box, like my full set of pacman/ms.pacman Pop! figures
Leave it in the box. You'll like it better!
I disagree with you. While I did like the Retro Arcade plug and play system, It has some pretty noteworthy flaws. For example, the Pac-Man Connect & Play system did not use emulation, while the Retro Arcade Pac-Man did use emulation. Also The Retro Arcade had more flaws that the Connect and Play actually fixed. And lastly. I find most of the games on the Connect and play (with the exception of Xevious) to be closer to the arcade versions than the Retro Arcade. I would like for you to do a revaluation of both plug and play systems and see which one plays, looks, and runs better. Thank you, Alexander Miranda.
The Bandai connect and play is using emulation, although some of the ROMs have been patched (for landscape mode and skipping power on sequence).
Bought it from smyths uk but it doesn't work on a new tv...ahhh!
You will probably need a coaxial cable to RCA jacks converter I'm pretty sure those are still made.
I bought one a few years ago, and now all my TVs don’t have the plug ;)
If you have the spare outlet for it radio shack and some other brands that might be still existing today made a external 3 plug RCA hook up with an S-Video Port that you plug into your coaxial Jack with a cable the coaxial Jack is the cable you plug your antenna into the little round single port that's usually either in the back or on the side of the TV now just making sure all the bases are covered have a nice day. I only have one RCA port on my TV myself so realizing I still had that old one that I used to use for my older TVs to stick the plug-in plays on them cuz they didn't have a native RCA jack was actually pretty cool I guess things have come full circle now. :-)
how long is the cord
Around 6 ft.
I hope there's a 40th anniversary one this year. I'm trying to find something like this for my father.
I'm not sure, but they may still carry these in some stores. I recall seeing one at my Walmart not too long ago.
@@thenosweargamer1449 I do remember seeing it there last year. Unfortunately, I have learned Walmart hires a team of psychics to stop carrying items just before I need to buy them.
According to their website, another store a few miles away has it, though, so I'm having it held for me until I can go pick it up. Thank you. :)
Awesome! Glad I could help!
I have this same one but it crashes a few minutes in does anyone know why?
Weak batteries no doubt.
When I play Pac-Man it doesn't go up and down it just goes to side to side just sucks and when I play Dig Dug it does the same thing just sucks
Its very difficult to make it go up & down. Make sure to turn it so the A & B buttons area at the bottom w/ the cord at the top. We thought ours was defective, until we turned it.
Just bought this for our company Christmas party gift grab bag. We’ll see if whomever appreciates it or thinks it as a big joke. To me, much more appealing than your standard bottle of booze.
I wish I have that
I order it off of amazon for 15$ today
How is it?
Fans of the arcade version of Pac Man will find this exasperating to play. The "joystick" is truly awful. very slow to react and it gets squeaky and even slower as it wears. The deficiencies ruin the experience. Even the grand kids hate the joystick. I tried the miniature arcade game at Wal Mart and it works great. The downside is the $299.price tag.
I have that
Miffed with the game selection. Seriously? PAC and Pal and Super PAC-MAN?
I asked for that last Christmas
James J and
I Have This Plug & Play!
Gabriel Hensley Got mine a few years ago at a Dollar General.
I have it too
I have that one
I have one
can you play 2 players on pacman?
When you first press a and go into the games pressing B will activate the second player you take turns handing the controller back and forth.
First also I have this
My grandson wamted to see u plug the damn thing in! Instead we have to listen to all this crap about the games. Shut up n plug it in to the TV.😠😠😠
Dang, calm down.
Grandma pissed!!
Nel Arzola just look at gameplay videos of it, geeeze grandma
YOU ARE JUST TELLING US THE GAMES
Let's see. I talked about the games (which to many is the most important part), as well as showing the cables it uses and how they're stored, the type of batteries it uses, how many batteries it uses, how much it costs, how it compares to other plug n plays as well as my personal opinion.
I concur that there's other plug n plays that are better. I like this, however, sitting on my shelf. It's nice for a decoration.
