      Michael Bean (Hicks), Bill Paxton (Hudson) and Lance Henriksen (Bishop) all appeared in the First Terminator as Kyle Reese, the punk leader at the beginning and Vukovich at the police station respectively. The director, James Cameron, was very inexperienced as a director and most of the crew working on the film had little faith in his vision for a sequel to a classic sci-fi movie, but he was so invested in making this film he actually spent a million of his own money on one of the practical effects, that weilding torch seen at the beginning of the movie. The theatrical cut has some scenes missing that add a ton of context to the movie, like Ripley having a daughter, showing the colonists, the gun turret sequences and Newts parents, the ship from the original movie, were all absent from the theatrical cut. I remember seeing this movie years after seeing it in the movie theater and being like "wait, I don't remember any of that", and most fans of the movie seem to agree that the extended version you watched is the definitive way of viewing the movie and I agree. This is Carrie Henn's, the actress who played Newt, her one and only movie role. I believe the guy who played Apone had served in the US marine core during Vietnam, which ironically or maybe internationally this movie was influenced by. Last bit of trivia I can think of off the top of my head; Sigourney Weaver originally didn't want to come back for the sequel but she loved the screenplay and script so much, how her character was portrayed she signed on.

    This movie has one of the smartest bits I've writing I've ever seen, letting them fit exposition, a character moment, and a scare in one. When Burke first meets Ripley, he introduces himself and sets up that storyline...but then it's all just a nightmare Ripley is having. Yet when we see Burke again, they've already met and we can just assume their first meeting went the same, minus the chestburster. So character introduction done, setting up Ripley's PTSD, and a fright for the audience, all at the same time.

    In the first movie, Ash (the android) didn't do what he did because he was fascinated by the alien (though, admittedly, he was). He did what he did because the company gave him orders to bring the alien back, "all other orders rescinded," and specified that the crew was expendable. Ash didn't go crazy, malfunction, or go rogue, he was just doing what he was ordered to do by their employers. In this movie, when they say the "artificial person" on the Nostromo "malfunctioned," the company is just gaslighting to cover up their part in what happened.

      "when they say the "artificial person" on the Nostromo "malfunctioned," the company is just gaslighting to cover up their part in what happened"
      Actually the script of Aliens does give this something of an out.
      The story implies that Burke is acting entirely on his own to gain financial advantage in claiming rights over the xenomorph science, and you could interpret the same in the company not knowing about the orders from 57 years ago.
      Weyland Yutani is literally an interstellar conglomerate enterprise - it stands to reason that this constitutes a LOT of moving parts within the corporate structure, and that not all of them necessarily talk to each other.

Ash would have been the first commercially made robot, but recall the line where they said Ash was replaced 2 days before departure. The company knew Weyland disappeared in the LV system just didnt know why
      Bishop is the second made robot, after Ash and has those new behavioral inhibators.

      Same. I was a teenager. This was the only movie that my dad ever insisted on seeing on opening night. I arrived early at the theater (that sadly no longer exists) and bought the tickets and he drove there straight from work. When Ripley said those famous words, the theater went wild. I heard someone whistling. I looked and it was my stoic taciturn father cheering like a little kid!
      The next day I went to meet my buddies for a weekend in Vail. I told them about the movie and we went to see it in the tiny little theater they had there (that again sadly no longer exists). Being teenage boys, we wound up seeing it twice more before going home.
      My friend's mom was flabbergasted. "You boys go to Vail and spend the entire time watching the same movie over and over?!?!" Moms don't get it. But dads do.

      @kaojinn Bro, when I was in pre K, like 4 years old, the daycare took all the kids to see the original Gremlins at the movie theater, that was the first time I saw that movie, Lol. In those day care worker's defense, the marketing for Gremlins was super misleading, Jurassic Park had similar marketing that fooled a ton of parent's too, mentally scarring another generation of little kids in the process. By the time I saw Aliens at the movies I had already seen a few creature flicks thanks to mom renting scary movies every weekend and allowing me to watch. One movie ironically DID scare the shit out of me and it was considered a "horror comedy", Return of the Living Dead. Saw that movie the same year as Aliens and it terrified me as a kid. It was that greasy ass zombie who went "brains", fuck that guy, and that zombie midget who chased that dude in the rain on his stubby little legs, horrified me. That's so weird, because that movie didn't take itself seriously, while Aliens was a legit action thriller and I was awestruck

      @kaojinn Год назад +1

      @@nedzed3663 Damn, I remember seeing Woody Woodpecker cartoons on film strip when I was in daycare, but we had just gotten cable TV, and some premium channels, so they were playing Gremlins regularly on Showtime or HBO or whatever. I loved the movie, but at the same time, my little 4 year old brain was paranoid that one of them was gonna crawl out from under my bed if I got up to pee in the middle of the night or something.
      And I know what you mean about Return of the Living Dead. I actually just watched that a few days ago (my son wanted me to watch it, and despite my protests at it looking cheesy, I said alright). And yeah, its mostly cheesy, but the big zombie is strangely unnerving.
      Aliens is just a masterpiece though. The first time I saw the set designs and tech, I was just floored. It all looked like it could be so real.

    The "Cool Vehicle" at 13:33 is based on a vehicle used in mining.......
    As others have mentioned Vasquez is the actress that played the Foster Mom in Terminator 2..... She is also in "Lethal Weapon 2," "The Presido," and A mother with 2 kids in "Titanic"......
    As Others have mentioned James Cameron liked using certain actors......
    One of the Few Sequels that were better than the first...... My Short List: Aliens, Terminator 2, Lethal Weapon 2, The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2), Blade Runner 2049, Star Trek 2: Wrath of Kahn.......

    Fun fact, on some shots of Vasquez' body cam, her initial is there, and on some it isn't
    If i remember my Alien lore, Vasquez and Drake, met in prison, have known each other for years, both signed up to the Marines on a serve(i think for life) to get out of jail program and are the only members of the team to have went through training together. Ive always liked their on screen relationship, but the film doesn't go int o detail.
    I remember Hudson is different from the rest, i think the rest are lifers, Hudson signed up for ten years, so he could buy a bar with his wages and live the rest of his life off the profits. Thats why he bitches so hard about only having four weeks left to serve .
    Are you going to do Alien 3?
    Its a way better movie than most Alien "fans" would have you believe.....as long as you watch the Assembly Cut, the theatrical version doesn't really make sense.
    Same thing with Resurrection, lots of people hate it, but its a great movie. Visually gorgeous, same DP as Se7en, solid cast, methinks you'd appreciate them both.

    as an actress/film production enthusiast that you are i highly encourage you to watch the Behind the Scenes of Aliens.......James Cameron IMO is the greatest film maker of his generation or perhaps any generation . His love, passion and committment to his craft is UNRIVALLED! he is a true visionary and pioneer. the effects in not only this film but ALL his films of the 80s and 90s are all "in-camera practical effects" with a very small percentage of pioneering CGI images in "Abyss" and "Terminator 2 - Judgement Day". he even built some Titanic Stages to Scale....he likes to do as much as possible "REAL 4 REAL" as he calls it! Even with the Avatar films being CGI the actors.actresses are all performing for REAL even under water wearing the performance capture technology as he films and renders the CGI envirnment in realtime with a special camera" Mind boggling stuff" the man is an Enigma!

    If you watch through the whole credits, you'll hear an ALIEN egg hatching on the Sulaco.
    Bishop flew down really fast and ran in the hive to grab an egg and hid it on the drop ship.
    Or did the Queen have a couple eggs on her back?
    You'll have to see.
    In an edited scene, Ripley finds Burke alive in a cocoon and let's him live with a xenomorph inside him.
    The game ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES was horrible and yet canon to ALIENS, you'll find Hudson's body, Hicks' shotgun and Vasques' smart gun.
    By the way, don't hate the Xenomorph, they're not evil or bad, they really just want to be left alone and procreate.

    I was glad to see that you watched the director's cut where you learn about the death of Ripley's daughter (I think that picture of her is actually Sigourney Weaver's mother). It really makes the story of Ripley and Newt that more meaningful, knowing that she has lost a daughter, especially when Newt calls her Mommy at the end.

    • @Will-nn6ux

      The extra information does add something, but I prefer the theatrical cut overall. It feels tighter to me.

    • @jhornacek
      @jhornacek Год назад +1

      @@Will-nn6ux It helps explain how the aliens attacked the colonists so soon after Ripley was found. In the theatrical cut it just happens and it's like "Oh, the aliens don't attack for years but they do right after Ripley warns everyone? How convenient."
      In the director's cut you learn that the colonists received orders to go investigate the ship.
      You also get Ripley's first name, and the sentry gun scenes are great.

    • @Will-nn6ux
      @Will-nn6ux Год назад

      I can take or leave most of the additional scenes. Later in the film, we learn from Ripley that the colonists were sent to look for the ship, so it's explained, and I think it's also adequately set up in Ripley's hearing as a kind of 'sword of Damocles' hanging over the colony. We knew it was likely to happen at some point. Like I say, I'm glad to know Ripley and Hicks's first names, that Ripley had a daughter who tragically died too soon, that the colony was led by Captain Hollister from Red Dwarf ( 😉), but knowing all of that, I prefer to watch the theatrical cut. I understand others liking the special edition more though.

    • @jhornacek
      @jhornacek Год назад

      @@Will-nn6ux It is explained in the theatrical cut when Ripley confronts Burke but that happens really late in the film - it works better where, early in the film, we see the colonists receive the order to go investigate the coordinates.
      I don't agree with the Sword of Damocles theory. We're told that those colonists were there for 20 years - if they were going to discover the aliens naturally it would have happened by then. It *only* happens because Ripley tells the Company where the ship was and Burke order them to go investigate.
