nice seat looks vintage. I think I'm going to go with something similar. Someone had turned mine into a racer but never cut the frame for a seat. Your videos are going to be helpful. Much appreciated
Good choice on the seat...glad you use Tuffside. I like their vids; great website. This bike is gonna be awesome, although Daniel Cox down below might be on to something with the cream/ivory tank idea. Hmmmm...
I just discovered this series and your channel. I didn't check the date and thought the next episode was already out :'D If you can't tell, I'm hooked! (and subscribed): Keep it up. Hopefully I can do the same builds as you one day.
I’ve been thinking about those dents in the tank. It will depend on where they are exactly, but Harbor Freight sells a paintless dent removal kit for like $15. It might be at least worth trying!
Seat looks very nice, good lookin garage too. You're gonna get me in trouble, cause I am looking for a CB for myself now. I broke down and bought a R1150R. Now searching for a 550..
Excellent video, thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques with us. The seat is going to look great, nice choice. After 37 years without riding, I had to do it again. Purchased a 2004 1150RT BMW, changed brake pads, front and rear tires with balancing (all myself for the first time), engine oil and filter, all other oils and fluids and got on the road for a great thrill. Decided I'm going to get into motorcycle mechanics, so I purchased four other bikes; 1999 Kawasaki 250, 1993 Kawasaki 1000 Concours, 1978 Suzuki GS750 and a 1981 Kawasaki KZ750. Except for the KZ750, all others have to be repaired. I decided that if I'm going to mess anyone's bike up, it will be mine. I have one question: Exactly how wide is your garage? Again, thanks for sharing your experience with us, to me, it's being very encouraging and inspirational, it's giving me a lot of "mechanical hope". Being 66y/o, I realized it's never late to learn a new skill, specially one that is going to save me and probably make me some money.
How to make up the gap in the front of the tuffside seat and the Tank? I bought a tuffside since they look awesome on your builds but that gap is a little weird looking. Didn't know if you had any suggestions to make that up and make it look a little more streamline?
So glad I found your channel,...I just bought my first bike, 79' CB750...it's on it's way to being a BRAT, the one before me started out going for a Cafe Racer, ...I'm into the Brat...Thanks for your work, love that Triumph too...is there a video sharing which tires and wheels are on that Triumph? Thanks Taylor, OFLORIDA
If the color of the seat makes you happy is all that counts. Personally I would want to see it in person before I comment. I put a tan tool/fork bag on my bike. So yeah there ya go
Just curious here, do you unplug anything when welding? Grounds on coils? Battery? m-unit? Anything electric? Thank you, keep up the good work. You've saved me from many bad decisions many times over the course of my 77 550F rebuild.
Good job man. Glad to have you as a Tuffside customer 👍 anybody with questions about our seats can check out my channel on how they are made. May cost a few bucks more, but each one is made by me from scratch. Not repackaged overseas stuff like the competition 😀🏍
Don't mean to be a dick but the flat stock isn't going to even be half as strong as the factory brace that's there because its not just a simple flat piece of metal.
you shouldn't have boxed in the rear of the shock mounts! that creates a stress point. Look at the factory mounts, and read Tony Foale's book on frame and suspension design. Folded gussets should not be welded on the ends
Wouldn't that only matter if he were planning on having someone sit on the very back? If anything I think he should connect the gusset to the hoop. But I doubt he's planning on having a rider so I don't see how it would matter considering his weight would be closer to the tank. Another thing to consider is the hoop in not 90 degrees to the vertical tube, but more at an open angle so it's even less of a concern.
The problem is that when 99% of the people that watch this they end up totally screwing up their bike because they don't know what they are doing. Best of luck. I'm not a fan of messy looking shops to start off your video, or screwing up perfectly good bikes to make them look like crap. Sorry.
Looks great love the seat and the build !!!
Soooooo happy your keeping the original paint, the patina is awesome. Seat looks MINT. Stoked I found your channel!
That tank is totally sick. Love the green.
Another great video Taylor! Awesome seat choice as well. Its coming along nicely and looking to be a great build. Keep up the great content bro!!!
Cool video, like to watch these when im not in the garage!
Seat looks amazing! Totally agree that it matches with the tank. So glad you didnt paint the tank!
you are the man, first shot on the welds like a true legend
nice seat looks vintage. I think I'm going to go with something similar. Someone had turned mine into a racer but never cut the frame for a seat. Your videos are going to be helpful. Much appreciated
Seat looks great, good choice on the distressed leather
The seat looks awesome dude!
Have a similar seat for my project, love it!
Great video men and i love the seat!

Doin great work man! You keep inspiring me to get back to work on mine!
Looking badass man 👍👍
This looks soo sweet! I can’t wait to get my cafe racer on the road! I’m hoping to be riding it by the beginning of the summer!
The seat looks great on there. I'm loving the way that tank is faded. I would have bought the bike just to get the tank.
Looking good so far. I need to up my welding skills after looking at yours. Lol
Damn nice seat, keep it up.
Keep it going, cant wait to see the others
Thanks! Tons of new projects on the way!

I don't normally like the patina look but tank and seat combo look great.
I’ve been thinking about those dents in the tank. It will depend on where they are exactly, but Harbor Freight sells a paintless dent removal kit for like $15. It might be at least worth trying!
Great video as always. Love the seat. Not keen on the tank paint. Would look great in cream/Ivory.
True it would look better, but personally I'd keep the original paint! Adds a cool factor. A history factor.
Seat looks very nice, good lookin garage too. You're gonna get me in trouble, cause I am looking for a CB for myself now.
I broke down and bought a R1150R. Now searching for a 550..
darker seat would be cool to try and get as close to that brown on the tank as possible

My garage is 18x20. Good luck with all your projects!
Great vid, Taylor. Seat set up looking good. Looking forward to the tank dent session 😮🏍
Nice work and vids !
Any good websites on where to buy spoke wheels ??
U.S or EU. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

What do you do for the oil tank relocation any vids on that?

Should be covered in one of the videos. They are stock wheels with Firestone deluxe champion tires.
Did you also bye the loop from tuffside?
Sorry if I missed it but can you link that seat? I’m having trouble finding one that hides the mount for the tank on my CB350.
If the color of the seat makes you happy is all that counts. Personally I would want to see it in person before I comment. I put a tan tool/fork bag on my bike. So yeah there ya go
What color stitching is on that seat?

I don't see a link to the seat?
It makes me want to buy a bike like this and work on it. But I have no power in my garage :'( .
What part of Austin do you live in? I'm in Jollyville,
I’m in Cedar Park.
Is a 1981 suzuki gs550l a good bike for a starter and to keep for a while
Looks like it could be a fun little starter bike.
Classic Octane yeah my uncle got a 1982 honda cb750. So hes giving me his old one with only 17k miles on it.
Classic Octane am looking to do some cheap appearance mods. Any ideas?
seat looks so good but if i may suggest, you should consider a nice and fresh paint job on the tank...something simple but fresh will look so good
You should link the videos you mention in your videos, you always say “I have a video on how to do this” but I’m never able to find them
I will make sure add some cards anytime I mention another video to help people find them. Thanks for the feedback!
wow Pacey you have aged so well
The current tank paint looks terrible; you definitely should repaint to a cream or cream/black combo.
how did you learn how to work on motorcycles?
I have always worked on cars. I bought a non-running CB750 and figured out the rest by trial and error.
Probably going to get a car with a ls in it to put in camaro. That's what everyone does nowadays.
Dig that seat too...I like Brown leather, carries the vintage much better...

I haven't boxed them yet. Would you leave them open?
