its beautiful, captivating, mesmorizing car. I am moved that a person can create such a fluid shape for a machine years ago and have me spellbound today
The more people use the term "art deco" without any clue that it really doesn't mean anything. ART DECO is ART/DECORATION. That applies to anything any certain person wants to apply to it.
I visited the Mullin Museum earlier this year, and it's a really great place. It has REALLY world class cars (including the blue Bugatti 57 Atlantic on the day I was there), and you feel that you are a guest rather than just a visitor. Virtually none of the cars are roped off, and Mr Mullin's brother was one of the many tour guides showing people around that day. (Just note that the museum has limited opening times, and tickets have to be booked in advance online).

Great Episode jay love your show..

Dennis Gage of My Classic Car just did an episode in 2012 highlighting the Jack Rich Collection in Frackville, PA. Part of that show was showing off a beautifully restored 1939 Delage D8-120S with coach work also by Saoutchik. It had that exact same door mechanism, however, there was absolutely NO wobble in the doors when closed by Gage on the show. Here it appears the doors wobble slightly closing. Gage highlighted the door closing/opening due to the uniqueness of it. Incredible car.
Outstanding presentation. Suffice to say that when this writer finds himself in Oxnard, a prolonged tour of the Mullins Museum is a must. In speaking of all things French; does the Facel-Vega line make an appearance in the collection? This writer was the owner of a ‘63 Facel II and still rues the day when it left my possession. That model, in particular, was the most successful of the entire Facel Metallon effort and still offers the lucky driver one of the most sporting deluxe tourers of the era. And the Ghia-inspired coachwork was to be offered by Walter Chrysler to an American market. But, due to contract restrictions vis a vis Jaguar, Chrysler could not bring the line to America. Mopar components in the Facel II gave excellent performance and reliability. Thank you very much, gentlemen. Carry on.
I love these old art-deco type cars. One reason I love hot rods is because you take an old car with such a design, modernize it, and it actually will look like a futuristic car. Some such cars, such as this one, even by today's standards look futuristic. It is interesting how some of these types of cars one cannot tell if they are an old car or a contemporary retro-themed concept car. But even interior design and so forth of the 1920s - 1940s often looked futuristic by today's standards.
THAT was iconic! ive also read about that car, and many others that i will never see, let alone have the absolute pleasure of driving! history will never change, and its something that we should all know. i hope to maybe one day view some beautiful historic autos, but until then, its Jay's Garage all the way!!!!!
How can Mullins claim that the Cord 810 borrowed from the grill of this car when the Hisso is a 1938 vintage. The Cord 810 bowed in late 1935 and was designed in 1934 by the great Gordon Buehrig. If anything this grill is lifted from the 1937 Studebaker. Just a corrector no sour grapes. This car is fabulous and I wish a model of it was available.
Correct, it states in the video that this car took 6 years to complete. So the claim that Cord was inspired by the grille/front may be quite correct. Cord may have seen - or even just simpy heard of via a third party; some of the design before the car was completed...

I think, this is my favourit type of door opening. Like seriously - that is way cooler than most of supercars' doors of today.
Exactly....you mean like the doors on a mini van.
its beautiful, captivating, mesmorizing car. I am moved that a person can create such a fluid shape for a machine years ago and have me spellbound today
The longer I watch those art deco cars, the more ugly modern cars look to me.
Yep, that's why classic car enthusiasts love cars from the '20s and '30s--their aesthetic beauty is hard to match!
Same here man
The more people use the term "art deco" without any clue that it really doesn't mean anything.

Saw this beauty at the Portland Museum of Art the day my family and I saw the band RUSH.
Ok.... that's about the best day ever!
@@fez3327 it really was, I saw my first 48 Tucker that day too.
The era of big fenders, the 40's I have a 41 Master Deluxe, and a 47 Fleetline I too am dumbfounded and overwhelmed by this car, I have read about this car but, was not aware it was in Oxnard, CA I will definitely make a stop there next time I am anywhere near there. Great Episode jay love your show..
Les carrossiers de l'époque avaient incontestablement beaucoup plus de talent que ceux de nos jours !
Insane they drive these priceless cars on public roads. Jay is the coolest ever!!
Love this show Jay!! What a beautiful car - first I've ever heard of it or seen it. Fascinating
I don’t think there is anyone who has driven more important cars than Jay on this planet.
Incredibly good looking car, a true work of art, 20 years before its time. And with a powerplant to match, 200 HP had to be quite a figure in an era when 60-octane gasoline was the norm.
Lucian Ene 4 liter engine, 200 cv, is not so much for an Hispano
20 years ahead? That's comparable to a '58?
@@slowuroll2000
I guess so, wrap-around windshield, the dashboard is typical 50's, still no headrests, the wheels are pretty skinny... What is ahead of the 50s is the suspension. Other modern features like power-everything are still missing.
@@slowuroll2000
Although I would admit that exterior styling shows much better taste than your average 50's clunker.
Some pretend that technology is far away from art: in this particular case we have to refute this nonsense. This wondeful car is a true piece of great ART! We have also to consider the period: for 1938 it's just an incredible achievement. Just wonderful and precious too: I would fall in love with this masterpiece!
Marco ...THANK YOU ! We Italians know the Value of Art better than anyone.
@@michaelcelani8325 : True!
@@marcob4630 ...marco...it is funny that the Italian car industry did not pick up on the Art Deco concepts like the French....or a little later the Americans. Unless there was some I do not know about. We're there any? You might know.
@@michaelcelani8325 : No as I know, Italian designer were not futuristic in autocars, even if they had Marinett's Futurism Art mouvement. Italy's designer preferred to remain classic and elegant. Pininfarina, Bertone, and so on
Hispano-Suiza is making a comeback for the 2019 Geneva Auto Show.
That Carmen is really ugly :(

@@zagyex I know. I got a little disappointed. I was expecting something much better.
Feels like this was put up today, 2019. We are fortunate to have a pretty fine car collection in San Francisco via the Art Academy. They have two showrooms on Van Ness. They also have a Lago Special. Endless details on the car to admire. Even the exhaust is the coolest exhaust ever.
that is a truly amazing vehicle... my kind of art.
I was fortunate to have seen and photographed this exquisite piece of rolling automotive art, while it was on display at the High Museum, Atlanta, Georgia.
Pretty amazing rolling art.
Rolling ART is the right definition!
I hope, even though i won't be around either, that when these two gentlemen pass that there are other, younger financially able and of the right temprement to preserve these great cars. Peter is pretty gracious to once again let Jay behind the wheel of his finest cars.
It kills me that Mr. Leno doesn't have any Children. I suppose when he "passes" his collection will live on in perpetuity.
A work of art!
There was a time when Spain produced the most beautiful and exciting cars. Pegaso and Hispano Suiza itself were ahead of their time.
Ok excepto que en la época 1930 la marca Ispano/suisse Dubonnet pertenecía a los franceses desde hace casi 30 años

Love seeing Art Deco cars.
Leno your a lucky man! You get to drive some of the most rare cars.
Nothing today even comes close to touching that art deco style of the old days. It's almost 100 years old yet still looks incredibly futuristic.
Okay! This is my favorite car ON PLANET EARTH.
Such an innovative designer, So many firsts on this car... The independent suspenion alone is incredible 👌👍
That car is right out of DC Comics
I guess you could say he's a hoodlum.
Carry on.
I say chap , have a problem with the words "myself or I" or writing in the first person ? Because this writer, himself, finds it a little weird.
Rolling art. The vision that fellow had.
More shows like this one, Jay. So many elite collectors and collections of unique true classics to cover.
WoW what a beautiful car. My wife would look dam good driving that around town and she is already one fine looking lady.
+komer west i hope that she gives you some points for that one. well played!!
Picking up the kids from soccer practice and grocery shopping at the Piggly Wiggly! Lol
Jay, I watch this blog every night at work, best thing on, can u please give us 1 Pontiac, please
Remember that this was built over 5-6 years. The exact moment when the grille came to be is unknown.
Correct, it states in the video that this car took 6 years to complete.
So the claim that Cord was inspired by the grille/front may be quite correct.
Cord may have seen - or even just simpy heard of via a third party; some of the design before the car was completed...
Absolutely breath-taking...
I think I found my favorite car yet.
Many Thanks................4 All CARS still Keep on .............Future.......
Every bit of metal you see on these cars (okay, at least 90%) was cut, hammered, drawn, brazed, filed and sanded by hand. WTF, I don't even.
Buy an “English wheel” from Harbor Freight and make your own.
@@algrayson8965 Yea, and buy an electric guitar and you can play like Jimmy Hendrix

Incredibly beautiful. Truly a work of art.
You don't see Jay nervous around many people. Obviously Mulling has gravitas.
Its totally cool but hard to fathom how deep some folks pockets are... Glad to see they still share by creating a museum for all
