  • The 1977 CBC Massey Lectures, "Myth and Meaning"
Ever since the rise of science and the science and the scientific method in the 17th century, we have rejected mythology as the product of superstitious and primitive minds. Only now are we coming to a fuller appreciation of the nature and role of myth in human history.
In these five lectures Claude Lévi Strauss, one of the world's greatest living thinkers, offers the insights of a lifetime spent interpreting myths and trying to discover their significance for human understanding.
The original publication of Myth and Meaning is out of print. The complete lectures can be found in More Lost Massey Lectures published by House of Anansi.

Levi-Strauss admits to the progress of anthropology as correcting factual and interpretational errors in his work and the man used over 7000 sources in his book 'The elementary structures of kinship" so cutting him some slack is very much due imo.

I think he's still right that, as a whole, the edifice of science is built against religion. You know, like how all the evolution people were hostile to teleology because they saw it as a religious doctrine.
