***** Agreed. It seems rude that some fans would consider "The 3DS version was just to hype up the fans for the Wii U version" or "The 3DS version was terrible." People, keep in mind that the 3DS and Wii U version (while are the same game) were meant for two different reasons. The one for the 3DS was obviously created for portability (unless you plan to bring your Wii U everywhere), and the Wii U version was clearly meant to have more capabilities with updates in graphics and controls. Overall, you can't really compare two systems that had two completely different purposes in displaying a single game. Plus, do keep in mind that not all of us can afford a Wii U.

Before Smash 4 hit, I don't think I ever had a preference for announcer voices or even acknowledged the announcer that much to begin with. But Xander HAS to be my favorite out of all of them, just off of sheer charisma and his genuine love of Smash. Never stop being awesome, mister _SUPER AWESOME VOICEOVER MAN ! !_
edit: Also, as a competitive Smash player, finding out about the "no Johns" thing IN SSB4 was hilarious to me. Nearly choked on my drink. Holy shit.

Yes, they're different in each game. However, I originally thought that Brawl's announcer came back for Smash 4. Nope -- they just sound similar. Xander is awesome :)
Compared to Brawl, which sounded a little rushed when that announcer said stuff. A little happy, too, for some reason.
They really made a bad choice not adding another single player adventure to the newest editions. Subspace Emissary was Brawl's bread and butter for me personally, but I guess most people just play it as a party game or competitively.
I didn't have very good WiFi when I had Brawl, so the Emissary was pretty much all I had to play, besides the other offline modes, and I loved the hell out of it.
I just find it so depressing that it was removed for a reason so shallow.

I super agree with that. And considering that Smash Run and to a greater extent Smash Tour are kind of limp and uninteresting, it makes that lack of a story mode hurt my opinion of Smash 4 so much more. Mechanically it's an awesome game, but with no in-game cutscenes or boss fights, and with the characters being so easy to unlock, there's very little fanfare in any of it. I don't play competitively and most of the time I don't even play with other people, so I was p. bummed by the comparatively lame single-player options.

I agree, even though I never really returned to the Subspace Emissary. It made Brawl feel like a complete game; in my opinion, Sm4sh feels very empty, soulless, and lacking content without an adventure mode. So far, PvP is the only fun I've had with Sm4sh and that's it really.
Adrian Beaky Yeah, I agree with the points you brought up. I ended up unlocking every character from just playing with my girlfriend for a couple of hours, pretty much. You started out with so many characters, too, which I thought was a bummer. Pacman, Mega Man and the like could really have stood to be near-end unlockables, since they were such interesting characters. I can honestly say I much prefer Brawl over Smash 4.

1st: Bowser wasn't shrunk AT ALL, he was always that size.

well, for bowser, not ALWAYS, but he's mostly always.
1. In the most recent games, bowser is HUGE. (New SMB Wii, Mario Galaxy, 3D land, etc)
2. Olimar is supposed to be 1 inch tall. Kirby is supposed to be 8 inches tall. Yet both a rescaled.
3. Sakurai is such a hypocrite. He says "Ridley wouldn't be Ridley." Yet he completely ignores the fact that Ganondorf is NOTHING like he is in Zelda. He's still a C.Falcon clone. So technically, Ganon hasn't been Ganon despite being in 3 Smash games. It's just lazy

I'd like to go a step further than you in regards to "staying true to the characters". Making Ridley not fly is apparently unfaithful, but making Ganondorf the way he is isn't? Making Ike, a speedy character with average power into a slow as fuck powerhouse isn't? That's just broken logic. I'd rather Sakurai just say he didn't want Ridley than provide an inconsistent explination.

I'm still pissed about there not being a story mode in the new Smash. It was my favorite part of Brawl, and their excuse is that they don't want the cutscenes leaking out onto the internet. How is that any different than literally any other game in existence?

Please understand. Sakurai said that he didn't want the cutscenes to feel like they were rewards, that way the game could focus more on the player having fun opposed to them just playing extensively for the chance to watch a short clip.
His reasoning was obviously pretty dumb, but I'm pretty sure the other reason it was excluded was because if they were to include a story mode, the game would probably not have been released by now. They wanted it out as soon as possible.
The simple fact was a lot of the more vocal people did not care about it, or downright disliked Subspace Emissary, even though a lot of people liked it.

Ya know, the explanations for the clones being in and ice climbers being cut make a bit of sense, but not making a story mode with cut-scenes like subspace emissary just because it will be uploaded online is kind of a poor excuse.
Not making an adventure mode at all because of that is an even worse excuse after Melee.

not all of us are like that. You can state your opinion, and talk about how there are things you may not like about Smash 4, but still like it and play it. Do I hate that All Star mode is already unlocked when you boot up the game? yes, do I hate how Break the Targets has become Angry Birds? yes. But does that stop me from playing? no. I also miss how Classic Mode was in Melee. I loved Race to the Finish and the Metal Mario fight. I still love to play it regardless of how there are things that I wish could be done better.

To correct a minor confusion, people weren't uploading gameplay videos - they were uploading the cutscenes entirely. Back when Brawl came out, gaming videos and channels usually popular. The ones that were tended to be scripted like AVGN.

***** 1. Dr. Mario's Pill's deal twice as much damage as the Fireballs, have more hitstun, and are thrown at a slower speed. Also, his down special is COMPLETELY different.
2. Like 3 clones would make a 46-character roster look bigger. They were added as versions of characters that had slightly different attributes, as Lucina is to Marth as Roy was to Marth, Dr. Mario (Smash 4) to Mario as Ganondorf (Melee) to Captain Falcon, and Dark Pit to Pit as Falco to Fox (Or Melee Dr. Mario to Mario.)
XpenANDpaperX There isn't a limit of characters the game can have. They were added at the end of development as a little treat for the fans, just like the Melee clones.

To be fair, we always had cut-scenes and playthroughs always being uploaded on the internet. Sometimes, the game's cutscenes actually gets uploaded before the game is even released, causing early spoilers. A good example I can think of is Sonic Forces, people actually had early access to the Nintendo Switch version before the game was even released, and fans can't help uploading playthroughs of it before it's actual release. This same thing actually happened to Sonic Mania. If Super Smash Bros Ultimate included a story mode, than I'd be worried that this 'people can get early access to the lastest Switch game before it officially comes out' thing would happened to Ultimate again, and you know what LPers are like. So, in other words, I actually agree with Sakurai in this case.

The thing is that re sizing works for certain characters, and doesn't for others. This isn't rocket science dude. Just stop hoping for ridley to come in, it's not going to happen.
Bowser's size has varied in a ton of games. It doesn't feel unnatural to have him the size he is in Smash. Ridley, however, has always been giant and it would feel weird if he was shrunk down to fit the fighters.

Even though I feel hella alone on this, I'm pretty bummed that Isaac didn't get put into Smash 4. It was a chance to get recognition for a game series that honestly deserves it, and on top of that, Isaac would fit in PERFECTLY. Imagine his final smash as Megiddo or Judgment. Hot damn. The fact that he was committed at all is amazing, especially considering that he did not want a sequel for brawl in the first place. Imagine how EA would have handled this. It would have been closer to "Cut half the content from the previous entry and include 27 overpriced DLC packs". And Sakura did it with a (practically) BROKEN ARM!
+asian rebel somehow i think there more work that goes into the actually game than the cutscenes. Its not like Smash Brothers is story heavy game to begin with. Imagine if miyamoto said cut all the story to Breath of the Wild. Because someone online might see it. Hell im still in the middle of the game and have unlock half of the memories. I could just go on youtube and watched them all. But that kinda misses the point of playing the game. Most of the people who watch these cutscenes have already played the game. And anyone who hasn't probably has no intention of playing the game in the first place.

***** Capcom and Sega were no match for them, why would a minor and completely dead franchise with more unique gameplay and nostalgia than Duck Hunt be a problem to license? Most Smash Bros fans weren't ALIVE when Duck Hunt was a game.
I even know all the moves B&K would have, and would have made for a much more compelling dual-character since the removal of Ice Climbers. If Ness was not literally a godlike Japanese pet character of the developers, he wouldn't have made it in in the first place. Duck Hunt is a worse step backwards, and a desperate gag character.
The bear and bird would be a little bit of Yoshi, a little bit of Bowser, they could fly/float like Peach/Charizard/MetaKnight, their egg attacks would vary in cycles like Peach's turnips, his save jump would be the Flap-flip backflip. The combos write themselves, and there is so much that could be drawn from the games for their Final Smash. Mumbo and Bottles and Grunty could have been Assists or Trophies, and THERE IS JUST SO MUCH THEY COULD DO.
JakesFavorites You're forgetting or not realizing Microsoft owns the franchise now. Unlike Sega and Capcom, Microsoft has their own console so unless if Nintendo buys the franchise it's going to be next to impossible to get the rights.
Sure Banjoe and Kazooie would be a much better edition than Duck Hunt Duo but Nintendo can only do want they can do.
***** I mean, other than just the cost of licensing the characters, it would have been a better choice for their target audience. Nintendo is really scraping the bottom of the barrel with their original content, and was when they put R.O.B. and Pit into Brawl.
Sega and Capcom make their own games too. Solid Snake and others had games of their own that were way more popular than the forbidden 360 reboot of Rare. It would be a, if not the, best way to redeem the franchise and the characters that are just as beloved as Donkey and Diddy Kong.
If Ness, Pac Man, Mega Man, and the others are worth keeping, they should have put in Banjo.

The difference is between those characters and ones already in Smash is that either Nintendo owns the character or they are owned by a company that Nintendo are friendly with like Sega or Capcom. Microsoft has the Xbox so they are rival companies.
Nintendo wouldn't license a Microsoft game either if they could do it for free. Like the Donkey Kong Country series Nintendo would have to buy the Banjo and Kazooie series and keep in mind that both Nintendo and Microsoft would have to agree to this.
To conclude everyone would love to have on Smash but getting them on Smash would be extremely difficult. If Microsoft was a 3rd party company then it would be different.
I'm kind of glad to hear about the "no Johns" story. I had heard the phrase before but never knew where it came from, and I think it's kind of cool that the guy it was based on doesn't let it effect him.

Modders actually made a scaled-down ridley a playable character in brawl and it worked just fine.

Sakurai needs/needed to realize that in game cutscenes are no longer a gameplay reward for players in the industry anymore. Because of the internet, and video game's cutscenes are going to be placed online, and this is something I'm very surprised he did not anticipate when making Brawl. Incorporating the CGI cutscenes into the trailers for the game was pretty nice, but I'm still upset they he decided not to make a storyline anyway. In fact, making a full movie would have been even better.
I can't be the only one who has played all of the smash games (except for the first one) and has never had a complaint on any smash game ever. I'm not even a casual. I play For Glory online all the time. Is it possible I'm just happy with what I have?

Ganondorf is at least 10 feet tall. Bowser is usually 8 feet tall. Ridley is 15 - 18 feet tall depending on the game.

The amount of thought the developers put into this game is really mind-blowing. It's thinking like that that's kept Nintendo at the head of the video game industry for so long. They put attention into every detail.

So many people in the comments are so wealthy and selfish that they don't know millions of us saved our money for years just to buy A SINGLE 3DS AND A GAME to play. People bitched about how "the 3DS version held back the Wii U's" and how things were changed for both versions to work properly, like Ice Climbers and Zelda/Sheik being separated.

You can change the Size of Bowser/Ganondorf as much as you like and they'll still feel the same.

But couldnt they make Ice Climbers a solo? So for example, u play as Popo, pallette swap, Nana, swap, Popo different color, swap Nana different color, etc. Maybe Popo's up B would be grabbing hold of that bird thing that appears in Ice Climbers? And standard, and down B can be smilar? Maybe side B, if u hold the hammer long enough it starts to make a frosty animation and u can slam the hammer to an opponent and they freeze. Like Kirby's side B goes flamey when held long enough.
