Freddie was so brave! As stated he was taking some really strong medications that made him feel like he was going mad at times. The trooper he was he kept his humor through it all. It was not in a movie, as far as I know. You really need to do Liar live at the Rainbow. It gives John a chance to shine!
Freddie was taking some serious medications that were making him have crazy thoughts and dreams at times. This is his sense of humor coming out about how things are going in his life at this time. It's all pretty wacky and thankfully Freddie was able to laugh at it instead of dropping into the poor me position. According to Brian and Roger neither every heard Freddie complain or feel sorry for himself. He was brave and just wanted to live every minute that life had to offer him.
In a letter printed in the Queen Fan Club magazine of Spring 1990, John Deacon revealed that work was being done on the song, calling it the “whacky single”. During an evening Freddie & friend Peter Straker, spent the night coming up with tongue-in-cheek one liners! 😂 One of my faves is .. “I’m one wave short of a shipwreck ..”. 🌊🛥️
This video is a great example of Freddie's creativity and irony at this point in his life, the strong medications awakened the fear of going crazy due to dementia, a common condition for the disease, luckily he never had it. And the video is really so good that it looks like a scene from a movie, when it was released here in Brazil I was a kid and I really thought it was one. I think his dedication to continue singing and recording is incredible, it was very brave, and it's incredible that the band supported him so much in this, please also react to the videos for Headlong and Breakthru ❤
People back then with HIV/AIDS could go as Fred said slightly mad, they'd contract a form of dementia, and this was filmed within the last few months of his life along with Days Of Our Lives which was actually written by and about Roger and his family looking back
He was relating what he was experiencing at the time taking the AiDS medication that causing him to hallucinate and other negative side effects. So sad but he never complained to anyone.never. You'll love It's a Kind of Magic, live at Wembley and the Miracle, official video
Incredible creative genius in that pool of talent, including the people they worked with. Since young their pioneering artistic endeavours - may never be reached or surpassed unfortunately, an absolute one off ❤
One of the gazillion things I love about Freddie is his self deprecating sense of humor. He would have hated anyone feeling sorry for him. He was taking medications that had many side effects … like having muddled thoughts. But that’s our Freddie coming up with fun song ideas right to the very end TY Pluto. Merry Christmas ❤️
9 months before he died....song full of self deprecation...Freddie so ill but so positive trying to appreciate lasts moments of music and life...and this is so good
No, it's not a movie theme. Freddie had some side effect from the medication that he was taking at the time. So, Freddie made humor out of it by making this song instead of feeling sorry for himself.
The AIDS medications were giving him some side effects that were like dementia. So one day he wrote a song about how he felt. He and a friend stayed up all night and tried to think of all the different expressions and euphemisms for when someone is going crazy and listed them in the song.
@Pluto_Please These lyrics are the result of Freddie brain-storming one night with a group of friends. Knowing he has aids, one of Fred's deepest fears was aids-induced dementia. He and friends spent a great night of laughter regarding what his aids-mind might construe. Such a brave man and, of course, good friends. This video is so bittersweet, Pluto. Thank you 🤗
@@bluebell3720 Bad syntax on my part. This should read: Freddie, knowing his AIDS diagnosis, ...etc. At that time the diagnosis had not been shared outside of his inner-most circle.
@@yvonnewakefield7748 He had started the song because hed been waiting an hour at the studio for the others He then finished it at home mainly with Peter S He hadnt said to anyone he was worried about dementia or AIDS other than Mary Jim and Montsarat then later Jim Beach He wasn't joking about how dementia could mess him up So glad that didnt happen to him

This is what happens when you take a graphic art and design major, a biologist an electrical engineer and an astrophysicist and shake well😊. Four completely different personalities somehow meshing together to make magic.
Roger said the song started as Freddie had been waiting an hour for everyone else at the studio When Roger turned up Freddie said ive been here so long im going mad and had started writting this song Its possible the thought that he may start dementia could have been in the back of his mind No one has suggested this Everyone said he didn't really talk about his illness
Freddie was very weak at filming the video and he had to be caked in make-up. In quiet moments Freddie took himself off to be with the penguines and gave them water. Under the studio lights they were baking, and as ill as he was, he was only concerned for their health. I love this song, because it's so different and Freddie's vocal control is amazing, he got even better technically after collaborating with Montserrat. Freddie loved the old black and white films, these could have been influenced the unusal scenes of this video.
Poor Freddie... he was so very ill by this time, but he insisted upon working. The video is black and white, not only for the 'artistic' look, but to disguise how heavily made-up Freddie had to be to conceal the lesions on his face. Have a look at the 'making of' video for this song. You can see that Freddie never lost his sense of humour...

Even in pain he didn't stop, Freddie lived for music

"I'm Going Slightly Mad" was released on 4 March 1991. The song reached No. 1 in Hong Kong!!!

Freddies penultimate video before he died. The world lost a genius.
