We ate Johnson grass off our land 25 years ago by collecting the seeds, soaking them, and sprouting them. Them we dehydrated the sprouts and used them in flatbreads. In Missouri, this is an invasive species. It took a couple of years of bagging the seed heads to eradicate them
if you are able to cross it up with a desirable bicolor sorghum variety, you may get a perennial sorghum hybrid that has some of the desirable effects.
Of the 400 kinds of grass in the mid west all the seeds are eatable. I was tolled this by a woodsman who lived of the land in western washington. And heard it on youtube as well.
Man that's really cool. I think I ran into that plant yesterday. I'm wondering... it's really easy for me to look up edible uses of something like Dandelion, but for something like this with very data on edible use, where do you get your information?
+Jesse Akozbek I have several really old books and am a member of some really good forums. Plus I was taght as a child. A lot of plants I know some of the uses and just have to look up the Latin names and any additional uses. It is always helpful if you have a starting point.
You're right...not a good thing said!! Thank you for this video and your edibles set of videos! I was just getting ready to tease the corn farmer along my property about what the heck is this....a hybrid corn thing he came up with?! Considering the cattle issue I won't!
Thank u great job
Thank you kindly for Paying it Forward 👍 I knew I would find a reason to grow.

Thank you for the valuable information. I have that grass in my front yard and I was looking information about it.
I am Oklahoma Cherokee My grandmother was born in 1902 she told me stories about me stories about making Johnson grass jelly
Can you eat the seeds at any time?

Can you pop the seeds like popcorn? Since this is a wild relative of sorghum, I'm assuming the seeds can be popped in the same way as sorghum.
Never tried, but I may do that
Good to know, thx for the info. What state are you in?

I said the same thing looking up this grass.. I want to know the benefits not how to kill it 😂
Are you aware if Bahia grass seed is edible? Some old-time bushcrafter mentioned it as edible, but I've had no luck finding confirmation on the web.
